Sliding the Switch in and out of the dock will inevitably scratch the screen

I really don't understand why Nintendo didn't just do a reclined docking station like many other tablets/phones use.

Yeah, that's a much smarter design then the Switch's toaster style dock.

I just ordered a pack of tempered glass screen protectors. I won't have them until the middle of the month, so until then I might do that foam strip trick someone posted earlier.

The Switch doesn't always fit down perfectly in the dock, you're eyeballing it when you put it in, which means you often slide to the side.

Yeah, that's true. I've noticed that when I dock my Switch. Makes me wonder how rough some people are with their Switch to get that many scratches in less than a day or two.

I'm not defending Nintendo in any way, it's pathetic they let this happen.

I wonder if you could just cut the front of the dock off with a circular saw or something? Sand down the edges. That'd prevent any scratches I'd think.

Someone's gonna do that.

Perfect solution. Just make sure you take the Switch out of the dock first! lol

I really like this idea. There's no wiring in it I don't think, I may experiment. I'd rather have a deformed dock than marred screen.

I REALLY dislike screen protectors.

Tempered glass don't fold and don't have "bubbles" and dust issues like plastic garbage protectors.

The switch doesn't have a cover so you want one regardless. The screen is plastic, there is no way in hell you don't scratch it while moving around without one.

I can confirm that I have micro scratches and scuffs on my unit after only putting and removing it two times on the dock. The console stayed on the dock for the night. And I'm very cautious because I read this thread before putting it on the dock.
I hate screen protectors on my smartphones, but with the horrible plastic screen on the Switch, it will be a must have...

They are out of stock, so I need to play handheld for the time...

Other than this I love the Switch and his concept.

Alright I'll give it a shot. You got any recommendations?

I've 'switched' the tablet probably a dozen times and I can't see any scratches - I'm just using the screen protector that came with the official case. Though, I was cautious from the start because I didn't trust the quality of the dock, so I always pushed backward a little when switching.

This is still unbelievably frustrating, though. So much of this console is of decent quality and well thought out, then they go and compromise the product with something so integral to the whole point of the system.

Nintendo should address this immediately by offering free screen protectors and some padding for those stupid plastic bits. As for people who already have scratched screens... they should offer replacements. Expectations: launch a revised model this holiday.

Being an early adopter is a rough time, but oversights like this are a joke.

Dock condom to be the new Wii remote condom..

At lest the dock didn't shatter anyone's HDTV yet.

I can see this being the solution, go to a website for two free strips of soft cloth that adhere to the inside of the dock. And a free replacement for anyone with scratches.

I didn't realise that the screen was plastic, I assumed it was similar to smartphones etc. That's a bit shit really.

Not taking any chances, here's my temporary solution from this thread. Cut the piece of cloth (or what is it?) that the screen came in to the size of the dock, stick it on the inside, stick it down with tape.

I've done this. I hate how I wanted a glass screen protector and now there's none floating around, so I was going to be extra careful but this is actually awful. Why design a dock that will scratch the screen with casual use?

Guess this is the first time i will try a screen protector on something. Always got by without one.

This sure is an odd thing to let happen in design tho.

Haha fuck just saw this thread and so reached over and grabbed my Switch.
It has a pretty long scratch down the right side.
I've docked it three times today, all carefully too.

This after my 3DS OG and XL both had scratched screens from simply closing the lids, fucking ridiculous.

Fuck, after only three times? Do you have a photo?

Damn my Switch is mega dirty -_-

Well given the necessity for one, it's out of stock.

Just find a protector that states it is "tempered glass" for the Switch. They're all mostly equal since they use the same technology.

Guess I should have actually picked up those screen protectors...

At least screen wasn't scratched from the one time it moved into the dock. I whipped up a temporary solution for the time being from the pro controller wrapping.

*Actually, I should cut the bag open to get airflow back.

I love how ghetto this is SO MUCH.

Until I get my protector the Switch is a handled ONLY.

If the screen is scratched from the dock is there a possibility the stores won't take a return.

Is there anyway to connect the console to the tv without the dock? I know nothing about the switch.

Well to be fair it is a budget syste....oh. Not good enough at the price they're charging.

Nope. The dock has some sort of DRM in it that means it's the only way you can connect it to your TV. Maybe third parties will be able to circumvent it and sell a special cable of some sort, but it'll probably be a legal grey area.

Not to make anyone's life more difficult but I would avoid/remove any electrical tape solutions.

Electrical tape can be made of many different plastics, vinyl or vinyl pvc is widely used and is the most popular due to its long lasting insulation.

This can be one of the most toxic forms of tape depending on what type of exposure you have and for what duration of time.

After you use electrical tape you should wash your hands and avoid touching your eyes or mouth.

Jesus, I have no idea how you guys are getting these scratches. My Switch barely even touches the dock when sliding down to begin with.

I've checked mine and no scratches anywhere, not even tiny ones. Been switching from dock to handheld often.

Use the smaller bag and slide it over the front of the doc.

I also have no idea how they're managing it.

I got the console at midnight and have been constantly taking it in and out since then to show off to people or to go to the toilet. Or lay in bed. If I had to estimate its been taken off and put back on at least 15 times by me. And my screen is fine. A little dusty, but absolutely fine.

There is a decent gap between the screen and the dock face, plus rubber stoppers in between.

Still all of this is making me super nervous so I'm gonna put a bit if padding in until I get some glass protection.

I'm sure the space varies depending on each dock. I'd guess some people have a smaller space than others or rougher plastic or maybe a jagged edge

But plastic ridges rubbing a screen all the time... Gonna wear

I ended up putting that cloth soft thing the tablet part came in over the front "U" section. It is a tight fit, but works well enough. It's basically a Dock condom.

I have a screen protector on mine, got it with the case.

Looking at the inside of the dock tho, and how the console slides in, I dont see how its possible to scratch it like is shown in the OP. At least not without handling it quite roughly.

Is this the only report or are others having the same issues? I haven't read through entire thread.
