South Park: Stick of Truth "New Kid in Town" gameplay demo [13 min]

March 4 I believe. I'm hoping to be able to do some video (or at least written preview) coverage on Kotaku this week, though. Got PC codes yesterday.
Thanks, it really is much appreciated - I feel that should say that you and other media folks posting on here is really cool, and a nice change from some other gaming forums.
I guess this also suggests that the PC version definitely won't be delayed.. Some suggested it would be due to Ubi and lack of info.

I'm curious about the console versions. I think all the previews so far have been on PC, even the ones that showed xbox buttons were just the PC version with an xbox controller.

I watched for a few minutes. Couple of non-spoiler things...

- Theres a DLC menu option, so maybe we'll see some more content afterall. Trey+Matt originally said "fuck that" when they were asked about it.

- No female option in character creator.

It looked like some of the hairstyles are suited for female characters to me

99 out of 100 console ports support controllers so it's safe to assume it will. Mass Effect is the only big exception I can think of.

Ugh don't Remind me about ME that still annoys me. Figured I'd ask since the steam page doesn't list it is but that could change

This game looks fantastic and I'll probably preorder and I haven't felt the need to preorder a game for sometime.

Just a heads up to those interested, if you preorder online from the Microsoft store, you get a free $10 XBL card. Best preorder deal I've seen so far.

Pewdiepie has released part 2 for those interested.

I dislike that I'll have to watch Pewdiepie's videos to see more gameplay, but there's not much gameplay anywhere else. I think after I see this part 2 video, I won't watch anymore. I don't want to spoil the game for myself.

Can't believe he has so many subscribers, find him annoying as hell.
But South park is worth it.

Ah yes, sorry about that. Australia etc. also have a censored version. However it's a different kind of censorship. Oh, and I hate Steam for region blocking that kind of stuff. That's really unnecessary and over the top. It's not like they have to do this to conform German law anyways.

Hence "a censored version" rather than "the censored version". ;)

Ok so we're sure that the ROW version traded on steam is the uncensored one right?

Yes. Since the app is universal the censorship is handled via a difference in data depots, which requires region-specific subs, which are the ones I listed on the previous page. Eastern Europe is the odd one out because RU/CIS-specific subs are used to combat cross-region trading (although sometimes publishers forget to attach restrictions, though not in the case of South Park).

Has there been any indication on which version is the better choice in regards to load times and what not or is that still an unknown?

I really want to preorder this, but I'm getting the PS3 version and don't want a shit port.
Assuming not, considering it's basically the tv show

This is what I'm debating as well. I'd probably only play it on my PS3, but I'm really hesitant with the poor PS3 ports from Obsidian in the past. I'm really hoping it turns out well.

Is there a place to buy a ROW version from Germany?

I can send you a gift copy from the Steam store, but it is £40.00 here in the UK, so you might be better off getting in touch with a member in the US.

Edit: That's right, get it from Amazon.com! Thank you for the reminder, Lusankya.

I tried to open Steam with Spotflux enabled and it still shows the game as releasing on the European date, unlocking in one week and four days (on March 6 that is). Is that normal? Will I still be able to unlock it on March 4?

The previous page has picture of Uplay content.
Those were just ads I took from the uplay store to see which versions were uncut, the game has been confirmed not to require Uplay!

I've never heard of this guy or seen him before but I concur with everyone saying he's annoying as hell. But the game looks really good. I think that'll be the last video I watch. Hopefully.

I think he appealed to the tween demographic. Remember when you were in middleschool (if you are from the states), and people found certain things funny, and it would spread among classmates? I think Pewdiepie is like that, where everyone thinks the guy is hilarious, and shares him.

When I was in middleschool it was still early 98/00s, so the internet wasn't as developed then. I remember the things that were funny to us was shitty flash animation sites. But I imagine Pewdie hits that demographic. When I saw his character creator video, I just muted the sound. =/

God damn, I have no self control.

edit: And yeah, I really don't get the pewdiepie thing. He's seems like a nice guy when he scales back the act at the end of the video. But the weird mannerisms and random shouting -- it feels like I'm watching a 9 year old play.

I honestly wish I could have muted just him. It was so damn annoying.

The game looks so awesome. Once you meet Al Gore I couldn't stop laughing.

Watched the first pewdiepie video and I can't wait. This game is going to be incredible. It's really cool that doing stuff like farting actually gets responses from different people and makes objects move and things like that. Cartman's mom "is that spanish?" lol I'm not watching pewdiepie's second video because I want to go in fresh and not have too much spoiled.

I am from Germany and bought a key from Stronghammer22 here on GAF. Activiation went through flawlessly. I should be fine then right?

If the censorship just relates to Swastikas then I don't really care either way.

The temptation to watch PewDiePie play it is strong but I won't do it. As he said on Twitter himself it's best experienced for yourself finding stuff and exploring. I also don't want jokes ruined for me.

Wish I could pull some youtube strings to get the game so early :p don't think I'm at that level yet sadly

At this point I don't think anyone knows for certain.

Apparently, some of the folks that bought Thief from RU sellers using the same glitch have no been able to preload the game even though it was activated before the region locks went into place.

With Steam, the version of the game you receive depends on the version you activated. The version of South Park you purchased from Stronghammer is the rest-of-world version that's uncensored and without any runtime restrictions.

Thief is a different case. With South Park, there was no PurchaseRestrictedCountries flag applied to the aforementioned ROW sub and so traders were able to purchase it at prices intended for the Eastern European sub; the issue with Thief is that while there have always been Eastern European subs, which have been the only ones available to Eastern European users, they were originally region-free, but this changed about a week ago when Squeenix added the "onlyallowrunincountries" flag to both. I've actually asked both Eidos and Squeenix to remove said flag as it impacts those who actually received the game as a gift in the months while it was region-free, but unsurprisingly I've yet to receive a response and I wouldn't be surprised if Squeenix leaves the subs as-is -- it's not exactly above setting a stupid precedent (all previous cases of retroactive region-locking were ultimately reversed precisely because they impacted "innocent" users, with the most recent example being Black Flag's initial RU/CIS pre-order subs -- a situation I myself was caught up in and active in getting resolved).

i really just want a definitive answer on how long it takes to finish the game.
i saw the rev3games 12h statement, yet thats pretty damn short for an rpg.

i was hoping it would be 30h+.

I wouldn't trust rev3games statement. He said he only played 2hrs, and his exact quote was "I heard it was 12hrs."

I'm gonna wait for some reviews before I start questioning the length. The length of this game is something I really want to know as well. While the game looks good, it's no point if the game is 12hrs long. It's an RPG, so it should be quite lengthy.

Ah, thanks for clearing that up.

I can already see that this is one of those games where I'm going to have to wait a while to listen to all of the idle dialog from characters. Like that first encounter with Butters, I would probably sit there until he starts looping.

not very accurate. You have to also ask if it is 100% controller supported. Battlefield 4 is a good example of half-assed controller support where you can play a lot of the game with a pad, but still need a keyboard for some stuff while playing, which basically breaks the game with the controller. Yeah, I know people don't play many FPS with a controller, but some do have that preference, so if you are going to add controller support, it needs to be 100%, not what DICE does with their games.

Eh, I'm fine if the game isn't 30hr+ main quest. I've enjoyed short rpgs like Chrono Trigger and Dragon Quest III. As long there's a decent amount of side quest to do, I'm cool with it. Never liked RPG's that overstay it's welcome, hate how often RPG's have filler shit just to pad out length of the main quest.

It does seem weird that they've worked on it for 4 years and it only ends up being 12hrs. That said, I recall Alpha Protocol being really short so I wouldn't put it past Obsidian.
