i really just want a definitive answer on how long it takes to finish the game.
i saw the rev3games 12h statement, yet thats pretty damn short for an rpg.

i was hoping it would be 30h+.

I'm fairly sure Scott Bromley was talking about the main quest, not the side content as well.

I never watch the show but seriously I enjoyed the 13 minutes gameplay
should I buy this game? What do you guys think?
If you liked the humour in the demo and you're up for a Paper Mario-esque RPG, I'd say go for it. Maybe watch a few South Park episodes to get familiar with the main characters, they're all freely available here.

Everything about this game is looking amazing. I actually don't mind if the main quest is only 12 hours or so because it means I'll actually finish the game. Hope theres lots of side content though!

i would suggest to a new south park viewer who wants to get this game is just to just watch the black friday episodes that aired a little while back. theres 3 of em. the game launches off of that idea.

Good suggestion. Also is a perfect summation of the kind of humour the show goes for as a whole. If you can get into these episodes you'll be able to get into the series and vice versa.

That site also has a random button, so if you don't have time to watch them all just watch a random one when you have time. Any episodes from season 1-5 are worth watching.

There's actually a sizable number of episodes that revolve around videogames, among those I would suggest:
Guitar Queer-o (Season 11)
Go God Go 1 and 2 (Season 10, it's a two parter)
Make love not Warcraft (Season 10)
Chinpokomon (Season 3)

so I'd start from those and the Black Friday trilogy people already mentioned, since, in fact, the videogame seems to start off from its ending.

Pretty much all episodes from Season 5 to 12 are great and representative of the current cast of characters (Cartman's personality changed quite a bit from Season 1 to 5, for instance, and some key characters, such as Randy and Butters, weren't really heavily featured), so you can do no wrong really! I would avoid the last 2-3 seasons for now as they're more of a hit and miss, some episodes there are actually pretty damn bad.

Man I remember when SouthPark first came out. Haven't really watched much after season 3. I did catch the imaginationland trilogy and that was amazing.

I wouldn't trust rev3games statement. He said he only played 2hrs, and his exact quote was "I heard it was 12hrs."

I'm gonna wait for some reviews before I start questioning the length. The length of this game is something I really want to know as well. While the game looks good, it's no point if the game is 12hrs long. It's an RPG, so it should be quite lengthy.

This is something to keep in mind in general.

You're like most people. Most people just bought in to the initial South Park fad for the first two or three years of the show and the movie. Then once the hype died down most people stopped watching. Which is a shame because those early years of the show were easily the shows worst seasons imo.

Personally I really like the loose silliness of the older series, though I think the show was at its best seasons 4-8 or so, with sporadic good episodes afterwards. It's patchy lately, but I enjoyed World War Zimmerman from the latest season.

I watched Imaginationland the other night and found it kind of interminable and laugh-free. It's basically reference humour, in the sort of "hey look, it's Popeye/Snarf" way that they criticise Family Guy for, mixed in with some really, really limp and obvious satire/commentary. Not my favourite by any means.

The game looks superb. Can't wait.

I was really excited, thinking this one game would transcend the usual western RPG tropes of feeling like a tech demo.

Alas, from the demo video it does not. I still have hope though.

Any word on the visual/performance parity between the systems? I have the PS3 and PC Grand Wizard version preordered but I like to play certain types of games on certain systems so I wish I knew how the PS3 version held up since it doesn't appear to be too demanding on the surface. Kind of sucks if the embargo happens that late, I wanted to cancel whichever I didn't need before it charged/shipped.

I prefer to watch best episodes rather than just watch some episodes randomly but thanks for your suggestion

Is the Okama Gamesphere in the game? :p

I actually remember when South Park first came out. It's so crazy to think how much time has gone by. But I remember I was really young, and parents were freaking out about how vulgar it was. Too funny. Strange to see how much of an impact its had on our pop culture. I'll be honest, I stopped watching the show a couple years back.

Still, I'm really interested in this game.

I know its wishful thinking, but I really wish we could get some clarification on this whole "twelve hours" thing thats caught on. Either way, I got a steam key for $20 so I guess I'm in no position to complain :p

Yeah, contrary to what many posters here have been saying, I believe that the first couple season were easily the worst overall. Season 5 is where things really started to pick up (I believe the Scott Tenorman episode is from that season) then in seasons 7 and 8 you really couldn't miss; just about EVERY episode was great.

More recently I'm not sure if they've quite lived up to the lofty 7-8 heights, but I still think it's generally better than the early seasons.

This is how I feel too. Seasons 1-3 still have some good episodes though but the quality doesn't match up to the later seasons. The newest seasons may not be quite as good as the middle ones but they still have some great episodes.

I've been re-watching a lot of the old ones and I'd agree 1-2 are probably the worst seasons. There are a lot of episodes that just don't hold up well since they're almost strictly shock humor.

I think thats because Matt and Trey were still figuring out what they wanted the show to be. For me, Season 3 + the movie is where things pick up, s3 still has some stinkers but I think that its a def step up from 1+2. Knowing that they've been working on this game for 4 years, I wonder how much of an effect has that had on these last few seasons.

Looking again, season 10 might be my favorite. But yeah, they absolutely focused more on shock humor early on; the episodes became way more intelligent later on, though some of the recent (last few seasons) episodes came off as hokey, or didn't work as well.

Great show though.

I remember hearing somewhere that many South Park songs are supposed to be featured somehow in the game. Or did I dream that?

I hope this one makes an appearance.

Fucking Trey Parker, he's so talented.

Cool! I hope there's a jukebox somewhere in the game with all the songs or something like that.

Well from that game play video
there is a radio in Cartman's room which apparently plays some songs. The one we heard was "too many minorities in my waterpark".

So there's at least one song anyway.
Sweet.

reading all these songs talk, i just ctrl+f'd
minorities
and whaddya know, it's there. was hoping he'll actually sing it.

I just noticed that I basically stopped watching the show before they introduced Butters. But man he's hilarious.

Butters may be my favourite TV character of all time.

Also, I agree with the sentiment some people have that the first few seasons are by far the worst. Everyone who stopped watching the show back then should really give it another try.
