South Park: Stick of Truth "New Kid in Town" gameplay demo [13 min]

South park has been an out and out satire since the second season, topical episodes are nothing new.

I know, but I always thought the funniest episodes were the ones that don't deal with current events (my favorite ones are Breast Cancer Ever and Raisins). And lately, their episodes only revolve around a single joke about something that happened in the past week that they drag along throughout the whole episode. I just feel like the topical treatment combined with their "8 days to air" policy are damaging the show.

The last season was especially terrible, bar the Console Wars trilogy.

But I digress. It seems like they've taken their time with this game and by the look of this preview, it certainly paid off.

Just looks very basic and boring to play through.

Isn't this footage supposed to be at the beginning? I'd be surprised if it was representative of combat later on in the game after they finish introducing more abilities and systems.

This. I can't remember an RPG tutorial that felt really engrossing. Usually, it's just boring stuff during the first half-hour of the game.

Again, they have been doing this since 2001. I know what ye mean about the hit and miss episodes but in honesty there's just as many 'miss' non-topical episodes.I actually though world war Zimmerman was last seasons best episode and that was as topical as it get.

'Raisins' is easily my favourite episode too, along with 'Awesom-O' and 'Scott Tenorman must die'

OMG, Authentic South Park sense of humor and writing, and it has legit RPG mechanics that would be right at home in any serious RPG. It's refreshing to see how serious they've taken this game. It really is.

I know I'm not the only one going to pick the Jew class for their first playthrough.

I've never wanted to be a jew more (not jewish). :)

Looks great and very faithful to the South Park universe. Nice work, Obsidian.

That said, it's unlikely I'll buy this game. I would have been a lot more interested if this game came out 15 years ago.

Yeah, it isn't "lately" they have been going topical and I know it is preference and all, but I think the non-topical episodes are more "miss." I also thought this season was superb.

PS Grizzo: It is 6 days to air.

Oh yeah, Awesom-O is perfection (as is Good Times With Weapons). I agree about the Zimmerman episode, that was not half-bad. I don't know, maybe I'm more harsh towards the show but Goth Kids 3 and Taming Strange were really bad. But I know they're still capable of striking gold once in a while, that's why I won't ever give up on the show!

Haven't watched the show in years and years (no particular reason, just haven't had cable) but I was really surprised by how good this looked, definitely on my radar now.

You should try to catch up, there's been many classic eps. It's not one of those shows where "Ehh this show was good it's first few seasons then went to the shitter"... it's still good.

A good start could be the console war trilogy from just this season. 1) Black Friday, 2) A Song of Ass and Fire, 3) Titties and Dragons.
Years and years of missed shows? I envy you...go on a binge!

Well seasons 15-16 were especially bad and the difference between those and the seasons up to 11 is night and day imo. Last season was definitely an improvement though, here's hoping that's a good omen for the game.

The game looks awesome. My wife even asked me if i was watching a new South Park episode, and after i said to her that it was a game, she still asked me 5 minutes later if i was sure that the footage was not a new South Park episode.

Has Obsidian or anyone related to the game said anything about a possible next gen version?

Well congratulations! You got yourself caught!

All episodes from all seasons are available to watch directly for free on the official website www.southparkstudios.com.

Haven't had cable for years, but that is how I have kept with the show. One of the few TV shows that has stayed really consistent season in and out. More recent seasons have had a few clunkers, but the high's are still really high, and even at its worst the show is still damn entertaining and hilarious.

Game looks incredible, haven't been following it during development, so I was shocked to see how closely it does resemble the show in humor, look, and writing.

You should at least check out the Black Friday trilogy from this past season.

Aww they could have done some funny stuff with that opening if they had a gender option. Making the parents try really hard to not identify the gender before you choose it etc. Considering how the show plays out (boys stick with boys, girls with girls) I see why they didn't want to create what would probably be a ton of extra content and dialog for for more than one gender. Considering it's an RPG it seems like a missed opportunity.

My wife out of the blue came and said I am not allowed to play this when she is not there to watch. I think she is more hyped than me now.

I look forward to a future where all property based video games can recreate the visuals just like this games does, god damn it looks EXACTLY the same, am I wrong in saying this is the first time this has happened?

Haven't played them but from videos some of those dragonball Z games look pretty close. Other than that I can't think of any.

I'm happy the game is getting some hype again. It went off the radar for so long. Hopefully the marketing machine continues to ramp up.

Looks promising but

Silent protagonist? Ugh

Obsidian? Wait for reviews to make sure it's not a buggy flaming trash pile.

It appears him being silent is going to be an element to the story, which was a smart way for them to go about it. Everything here was brilliantly written.

I doubt this will be a very buggy game, there is not much too it.

Have they mentioned what resolution this runs at on consoles?

The video was 720p which isn't a good sign. Deciding whether to get this on PC or console, would rather the latter. I mean Rayman Legends was 1080p 60FPS on consoles, so hopefully this is too.

Just looks very basic and boring to play through. The icon for blocking looked cheap and weird.
1) South Park is supposed to look cheap.

2) Dude, you are watching the very first few minutes of gameplay. There are very few RPGs that are exciting from very early on. What you saw was a tutorial and the couple of battles followed by that. And it looked encouragingly well thought out & executed. Even the very first battles showcased counter-attacks, different kind of defensive moves, a variety of ways to attack etc.

shit i havent watched southpark since towlie...

i feel like most of the game will be lost on me...

Nothing has really changed, if you remember the cast of character from the first few seasons, then you won't be lost. They only added a few since those times. It's like The Simpsons.

The game looks balls out amazing.

I think this might have crept up to the top of my most anticipated March release.

I love how the main character doesn't talk.
I feel like that's a sly dig at every silent protagonist ever.

Yeah. I'm not usually a fan of the silent protag in a full voiced game, but I'm totally happy with it here since the other characters are aware of it.
