Star Citizen Gamescom presentation [Over]

They're probably going to show that off when it's done.

So a few years.

Considering the low player count currently and the sheer amount of stuff they're sending over the wire they are really building for scale at the moment and that's generally not something you can hack in later

what do you base that on really? Not that I dont believe you but what they have shown doesnt show that they are long way to go imo.

well.. they're showing 3.0 and it looked pretty janky/buggy this whole week. the servers cant handle more than 12 players at a time before performance (12 players qualify as an MMO right?) hits rock bottom and they haven't really shown whats beyond this update. what's shown right now is prob 5% of the overall game that was originally pitched and they're moving at a snails pace with Chris Roberts insisting on redoing earlier work.

so yeah its still years away.

lmfao bug.. right on time.

Yeah I'm done lol.

The tech is impressive and I'll play 3.0 when it comes out, but gameplay is still super janky and this presentation makes me sleep.

Just started watching. Is this some prerecorded thing that Chris is trying to portray as a live demo? This looks and sounds so scripted.

It's extremely live, system crash and all. :D

Of course there is a certain beat they'll follow to show you everything, but other than that and the "silly live banter" it's going along as they go.

Yeah, this game is a series of tech demos held together with sticks and tape. It genuinely seems like they've put all their effort into everything except core gameplay. I'd love to be wrong since I've sunk way more money into this game than I'd care to admit, but this is currently Feature Creep: The Game.

ITT:

if everything goes perfectly, scripted bullshit smoke and mirrors

if things are janky and a bit buggy b/c the game is not complete: LOL this shit sucks, vaporware blah blah

Its crazy where some ppls expectations are with this game.

I think its pretty amazing everytime I see it but I know its a long ways off as it should be for what they are trying to accomplish.

Well there you go... This is year 5 of development right?

6 if you believe Chris Roberts saying that production started in 2011.

2 years if you believe super fans saying thats when production really started because they had more staff and not just a bunch of contractors from different studios.

Pretty much. See a bug of a game in heavy development and suddenly we're back to the "Scam Citizen" comments.

If you can point me to the schedule of "6 years of full development" that'd be grand. Otherwise you can take the shitposting out of here.
Par for the course for a Star Citizen thread, the same people shitting on the game no matter what they show.

I don't think it's a scam. I think it's just molynuex style incompetence combined with an extremely exploitative revenue model

I mean, if I were a backer I'd be probably pretty pissed at this point with the state of the game as it is.

Edit: The silence is pretty telling though.

That's one of the reason most demo at E3 are pre-recorded, things in development can go wrong at many many point. Hopefully they'll recover. Their blood pressure must be sky high.
