I know at the time people were saying they decided to announce Starfield and Elder Scroll 6 like that at that E3 because of all the fallout (pun intended) from Fallout 76. A kind of 'what the fuck did you guys do with 76.......oh shit a new game......OH SHIT Elder Scrolls 6!!!, all is forgiven Todd!'

lol I mean that is how I feel, but I'm more forgiving on stuff like that. Flops happen and Fallout 76 shouldn't bother anyone with buying a new fallout title anymore then the FF MMO titles. I feel those reveals had them on the back of their heels like "please don't be mad, we still making fucking single player games cuh CHILL" lol

I get why they'd want to really market that as I feel the community just exaggerates anything like this.

Todd says he doesnt like it when games get first revealed 3 or 4 years out, and you get the game at like 4 E3's in a row etc. He also said there may be big news coming sooner than people think with Starfield.

They plan these roundtable events, they dont say anything by mistake. IMO they were hinting at Starfield being fully revealed at E3, and a fall launch.
It may not happen because of Covid, but i think that is the plan.

Outside of Halo, RE8 and Horizon we don't have a lot of big games coming out this year. Halo and Horizon don't even have solid release dates so there is that, this game would benefit a lot because of the lack of competition compared to if it got released in 2022.

harmny Not really. Fallout 76 had not released yet when that E3 happened. It was an E3 FOR Fallout 76 and they also revealed Elder Scrolls, Starfield etc. We can say they knew it would be a bad launch or they wouldn't give refunds etc, but we can't say its because they "released a trainwreck" because at the time that reveal happens, Fallout 76 didn't release yet.

I really hope they got their shit together after Fallout 76 and don't rush this game out the door to meet some kind of executive demand. I'm super curious what this game actually is and how it will play. What kind of depth it will have. Will it be a typical Bethesda RPG or are they going for something different? Like at this point they say Fallout or Elder Scrolls and we know what we're getting, for the most part. Their first new IP in a damn long time and we still know nothing about it except it is apparently in space. It's exciting but I'm also cautious. As far as it releasing this year, I have my doubts.

I believe that Flight Simulator, Wolfenstein III, Forza Horizon 5 and Halo Infinite will be Aug/Sept/Oct and Nov releases with Starfield getting delayed to March 2022.

GamesBeat journalist Jeff Grubb recently said during a Dealer Gaming stream that the plan for Bethesda is to follow a marketing and launch cycle for Starfield similar to that of Fallout 4. According to Grubb, there’s a 90% likelihood that the game’s going to be unveiled in full at E3, and then will launch later in the year itself. He says that that’s what Bethesda has planned right now, barring any COVID-related delays and hurdles, of course.

Other insiders have also recently suggested that launching Starfield in late 2021 is part of Bethesda’s plan, with COVID being the only potential complication.

He also tweeted Starfield was years away... I doubt he has any clue.

I think that's entirely possible since BGS now has 4 studios instead of just one. They can work on multiple project at the same time.

Yeah, and we also know that Starfield was one of the titles that Sony tried to get a timed exclusive deal on - and it's worth pointing out that they were mostly targeting 2021 releases when locking these exclusives.

Starfield is definitely a 2021 game, or at least it is planned to be.

Why is that game criticized for the various reasons it is, while Fallout 3 is generally given a blanket pass in people's minds? For God's sake the only narrative choice in that game is to nuke Megaton, and even that mass murder just gets you a stern talking to from daddy dearest.

Fallout 76 was trying to be a MMO. Starfield is at least a single player rpg.

This and last single player Bethesda games are 10M+ games with 80+% of positive user review (relying on steam ones having at least 10 times more feedback than others ones)
Who care about what some people on gaf feel about the games (and surely more about Bethesda "situation") to indicate anything about next ones to come.

Also 76 was not a Todd Howard game. It was a BGS Austin team game lead by Jeff Gardiner. So it was the first non TH BGS game made outside the Maryland primary studio. Starfield is a TH BGS Maryland game.

Well now things are really getting mixed around because you are jumping not only to different studios but even jumping from gameplay (which I was referencing in my original post) to announcements.

Also everything you referenced were part of established franchises.

There are a lot of variables in play here and that didn't even take into account the broader climate, which includes the pandemic and recent acquisition.

I'm still skeptical of any game dropping without any massive media push that includes gameplay in just a handful of months, but it could happen.

Maybe they have to take into account the loss of sales from being platform restricted and forced onto gamepass and will scale the effort way back. Who can say? It's all speculation until the company confirms, even if there are "insiders" and journos spouting off.

God of War Ragnarok is a 2021 game and if they really plan to release "switch pro" this year, very likely BOTW2 will be a late 2021 game too. Having other exclusives like Ratchet, Deathloop, Ghostwire Tokyo, Kena, Guilty Gear Strive or the FFVII thing, if Sony pushed GT7 to next year it's because they are very confident with their packed 2021.

I think there IS a chance that Starfield could come to PS5, but i certainly wouldnt count on it.
We already Know Sony tried, and failed, to get some exclusivity deal with Starfield. And we also know from Todd and Phil that Microsoft and Bethesda had been negotiating the sale of Bethesda since 2018.

So yeah dont count on Starfield coming to PS5, but i wouldnt 100% rule it out.
