Also, I frankly wish third parties were out, as well as Trainer.

Hell, logically, that'd be four extra spots, which would be absolutely awesome.

I think it's wishful thinking to believe that Ridley will be playable... as much as I would love him to be. Now, an Animal Crossing character I could see :/.

Yeah, what he said. Sakurai loves Adventure of Lolo.

I decided to drop Bowser Jr. Even though he's a transform character (which would've given us 40 movesets total), Ganondorf could still transform, and really should.

EDIT: Reasoning for the characters I want -

Animal Crosser - There has to be a rep - who's going to main Smashville?
Lucario - Needs a current gen rep (honestly, there are at least five Pokémon from the first generation :S)
Lolo - Sakurai loves the series, he'd be the perfect newcomer
Advance Wars rep - The series is very long-standing and deserves representation
Ridley - Metroid has really been aching for a second rep.
Young Link - Young Link (WW) is much more popular in Japan than Adult Link (TP).

Nahhh, definitely not. Remember, this is a Japanese game. They had much more in that series than just Andy, and he doesn't seem like he'd really fit into the game as well as another Nintendo person. Like, I could even see K. Rool before him, as like...a Bowser clone even (and if not a playable character, I could totally see him in a stage, remade from the last boss board from DKC where he just runs back and fourth and stuff).

Er, just because he's not terribly popular in Japan doesn't mean he wouldn't be considered. The series is almost 20 years old with 11 installments.

Errmm. The series was quite anonymous with generic characters until Advance Wars came out. Andy is definitely the lead character of the franchise. Then you say he wouldn't fit in? Of course he would.

So wait wait, going by Markman, we have 37 characters if we consider ZSS and Sheik as seperate. The dojo has 25 characters already revealed. That leaves us with 12 characters to guesstimate. Here's who I'm hoping/guessing/praying for (with explanations):

-Jigglypuff - Veteran from both games and is becoming the traditional 'easy-to-unlock character'.

-Falco - Although a clone, fans were pleased to see him in melee. Starfox is a pretty big franchise and I'd be surprised if it didn't get more than one character to represent itself.

-Ganondorf - Yeah, another clone, but if we're going by TP for the Zelda characters' models, he can use his sword and have a revised play style.

-Captain Falcon - Again, a veteran and used often in Melee.

-Luigi - Veteran, also from the Mario universe. If Peach is in I don't see why Luigi won't be.

-Young Link - Possibly replaced with his Celda style, but I hope he's in either way.

So, that leaves 6 more. These guys I'm looking forward to but I'm not so sure if they'll be in.

-Marth - New game coming out for DS and was a top tier in Melee. Hopefully they'll stick with two FE chars, but I'm not so sure.

-Game and Watch - Sort of obscure, but very unique. Totally unpredictable, but it could happen.

- Mewtwo - Yes. You want him in. I can see it in your faces. Who doesn't want to do a PT with Pikachu team up against Mewtwo and relive Pokemon Red? Exactly.

The other three, I really have no clue. Maybe we'll see the otehr melee guys, or we could have some totally new faces. Either way I'm very pleased by the current roster.

I would almost prefer no Mewtwo - to make him good, you pretty much have to completely modify him.

Besides, my predicted roster forgot to include Diddy, so I'd have to drop another newcomer, and I want all of them :(

Why would Sakurai go "You know, I can make any other character in Nintendo history work, but I'm out of soda, so Ridley won't make it in"?

What is the general consensus on Mewtwo in terms of skill and ability? I played him quite a bit in Melee but I was never a "hardcore" player so I have no idea how he compares with the rest of the roster.

I don`t think Golden Sun is third party. The end credits of that game tells us Nintendo owns the characters and music. In that case some representation would be expected, be it trophy or sticker. Still nothing has been shown yet. That`s disappointing. Isaac playabe is all I want.

So, we`ve got one more melee logo to fill. Game and Watch is pretty much in the bag. Are there any logo theories to construe or is the fun over?

Worst character in the game.
Yes, below Bowser and Pichu.

This is for 1v1 and items off btw. He's a little better with items, but he's still horrible. Poor Mewtwo. His stats just suck (ironic considering his stats are godly in Pokemon)

By the standards of "35" characters I'd predict:


1-12, confirmed veterans: Mario, Link, Kirby, Pikachu, Fox, Samus(/Zero Suit Samus), Zelda/Sheik, Bowser, Donkey Kong, Yoshi, Peach, Ice Climbers

13-23, confirmed newcomers: Pit, Wario, Ike, Pokemon Trainer, Diddy Kong, Meta Knight, Snake, Lucas, Sonic, King Dedede, Olimar

24-31, unconfirmed veterans: Captain Falcon, Luigi, Ganondorf, Jigglypuff, Falco, Mr. Game & Watch, Marth, Young Link (WW Link)

32-35, unconfirmed newcomers: Animal Crossing character, series #19 character who may or may not be Lip, series #22 character who also may or may not be Lip, bizarre Nintendo DS symbol character nobody sees coming


The thing that disturbs me about predicting this way is that it means there are only four newcomers not revealed yet--but I'm almost 100% sure Captain Falcon, Luigi, Ganondorf, and Mr. Game & Watch aren't going anywhere, I'd give Jigglypuff an 85% chance, and Marth/Falco/Young Link get at least 75% from me. (But, in fairness and against my own stance, I will say I would have also given Ness a 75% chance before we heard about this 35 character thing.) I'm not about to write them off.

Ness appears to have been shanked by Lucas but Jiggs is still good. Snake's VA mentioned her being in, which is a lot more then most have going for them

My two characters are Young Link and Sheik. Sheik's in, Young Link I hope is in. At least in cel-shaded form! Although if they change his moveset it won't really matter I guess.

Something I thought about last night, but debated if it was worth posting. The characters number wasn't sitting well with me, and I got to thinking about the nature of leaks, how they're generally for the amusement of the poster. Working off the assumption that MarkMan does supposedly know something (which it's nice that he has a reputation, but I'm just going to remain cautious, and if he actually does or not, no harm no foul), and that he's kept his smiling attitude going when one would presume he'd have gotten an angry phone call from someone by now.

So, is there something he could post that could be wrong as it is, but he could point to later on and show he really did know? Well, how about if you just flip the numbers?

41 characters, 35 stages

Given the extra work they're doing for Subspace Emissary areas and the stage builder, I could see them skimping on the number of multiplayer stages, and that would still be a larger number than Melee had. That Nintendrone list of characters also works out to 40, counting with the combined S/Zamus and Zelda/Sheik, I think.

But it's probably just wishful thinking. I still don't think something feels right about MarkMan's posts, but either way, I'm sick of the "put your money where your mouth is!" challenge posted now a third time by Reno.

So if we add in the vets that we KNOW are going to be in the game that haven't been revealed yet, we're still looking at 2-4 more new characters we don't know about?

WW Link being in the game isn't surprising at all. That thing is Aonuma's most prized creation, and considering he's been pestering Sakurai about the Zelda characters since the beginning, it makes sense.

At first, I didn't want the little troll to taint my beloved series, but with Ness being sadly absent, I need another bulbous headed retard to pummel around.
