Just got BlazBlue Portable for PSP.
Pretty impressive port overall. The game play is spot-on and all of the animation appears to be intact. I was able to jump right in and do everything from the arcade/console versions with ease. The visuals are very good, although clearly downscaled from the original 720P version. The sprites look blockier and less detailed, and the backgrounds have been made completely 2D. With all of the animation present, however, the game runs very fluidly and looks great in motion.
The following modes are available:
-Arcade
-Story
-Score Attack
-Legion
-Gallery
-Shop
-Training
-Versus
Arcade and Story mode have all the dialogue fully intact; you can even purchase the Teach Me Ms. Litchi episodes from the shop. Legion mode seems to be a variation on the typical fighting game survival mode, where you start with one character, taking on other characters of varying levels, adding them to your side for use (for a total of 20) if you win against them. You can also select to play on either the 1P or 2P side before you start.
When you play matches in the various modes, you earn points which can be used to unlock artwork, unlimited characters (now for everyone), astral heats, and other bonuses in the shop. The only thing that seems to be missing are the bonus color schemes from the console versions.
I tested the game on my OFW PSP 1000 and my CFW 2000. Unfortunately, there is no install option. Off the UMD, the load times are around 7-10 seconds per match. Playing the game ripped to my PSP 2000, the load times are almost nonexistent. The game is also up for sale on the Japanese PSN, so I would assume similar load times to playing it ripped for that version of the game, and that is definitely going to be the way to go.
If you don't know Japanese and the story mode or even basic options being in English are important to you, wait for the American version coming in March-- this version is entirely in Japanese. No voice or text options are anywhere to be found. (Does this mean that the American version is going to have English-only voices?)
