A reminder that cutscenes in Uncharted 3 are pre-rendered and second picture is heavily compressed compare to first one.

U2 shot is completely difference in lighting. Also, if you noticed, some detailes were added, like necklace and curtains
Regarding U4, IIRC ND said they wete targeting 60fps, not it will be 60. That's different

Oh "different lighting" lol. Yeah it is. Because they couldn't get this lighting working on PS3.

as for U4

CAPTURED ON PLAYSTATION 4

And like i said we had The Last of US downgrade thread years before where literally everything they did in trailers was just scripted fake stuff that almost never happens in game and it was presented as "real gameplay"

Oh goody, another thread where people show their ignorance by assuming that builds made years apart are expected to be visually 1:1 despite all the additions and modifications made to the underlying code in order to finish the entire game.

Isn't it funny how that visual ratio is almost always in the direction of looking worse at release? Quite a coincidence eh? Kinda spooky how often that happens almost like devs should be able to pick up on the trend so as not to drum up unrealistic expectations... And maybe not give interviews after claiming it really looks and plays like that. Or sick twitter mobs after detractors.

Oh well, I'm sure their feeling real bad about it while they cry over their piles of pre order moneys.

Yes, different lighting, but somehow you chose to ignore added details.

Captured on PS4, and still you can target 60fps in development process. That trailer was showed 2 years before game release.

Not at all. One of these things is built with the intention to show as well as possible, the other to play as well as possible.

Two quite different goals and a scenario that's basically unavoidable given that on the multi-year journey between these two builds being set side-by-side, countless changes have been made to the code-base, bugs fixed, parameters tweaked, things added, all of which have a cumulative impact as the game is running on a closed, fixed, system.

Its all very obvious, if you actually think about it.

And here we have people defending a blatant lie.

That isn't all that obvious to me.

Strangely, what is obvious to me is when I see games that claim they are made for and run on a certain system and I say to myself "No, that's bullshit. There's no way in hell this looks and plays like this at release. The system can't handle this." and then I end up being right pretty much all the time.

Now how that's obvious to me and so many others that are not game developers and not the developers themselves I have no idea. Maybe we are clairvoyant graphics whores.

Its unfortunate that certain developers actually working with the hardware don't seem to be so enlightened as I apparently am. Well unfortunate for us I should say, there doesn't seem to be any drawback for the dev (until a Watchdogs level backlash occurs).

The scenes they used in the original shots were all set up with very clear and distinct point lights like they would use in a hero asset cinematic.

To even be shocked that wouldn’t happen in the final game is a bit daft. There is no way you can light a world and have every single shot be lit perfectly in any situation.

The games boring as fuck with a trash story, but the one area you simply cannot poke holes in is it’s visuals, they are incredible.

Did you think the original gameplay was boring as fuck?

Wasn’t that just for mp?

Nah, first UC4 teaser was supposed to be representative of gameplay, but was a 60fps pre rendered cutscene. The cutscene was in the final campaign, but it looked worse and ran at 30. People on this forum were using UC4 looking so good at 60 to show how much better the PS4 was. And ND kept saying they were considering 60 FPS for the whole game till the next year, even after we had seen some 30fps gameplay.

Yes and no. It wasn’t the best but it was serviceable. But this was SEVEN YEARS AGO.

Think about what games and experiences, what improvements we have had since then.

To me it was amazing.
I get that, Ive only found slight changes in gameplay mechanics in the last 7 years, though.

Like Dark Souls 3 over Dark souls 1. Not that much difference.
Yeah there has been some big changes, but none that come to mind

Ahahahah people really believed they could pull that on that piece of crap CPU?

Serves gamers right for being stupid.

Lighting has been downgraded significantly IMO.

Also, I haven't played the game, but a friend of mine who's a huge fan of the first game and also Uncharted 4, is playing it but so far he's not really enjoying it much. He also said U4 graphics are still a lot better.

No, just keeping it real.

You're just ignorant, and are so wrapped in a persecution fantasy that you are totally oblivious to how the way games are made, the technical and economic factors in play make change over time basically unavoidable.

Noone in the industry is going to waste manpower and resources to maintain the exact parity levels demanded by internet pedants. It ain't happening!

Nothing about persecution. It's a blatant lie. End of the story.

In one of the traielrs, Ellie gets grabbed on arm by Joel.... "You thought I would let You do this alone". And the same scene is in final game
Even more salt? The PlayStation haters are OBSESSED with this game.
Game dislikers =/= playstaiton haters.
Also, not everyone who dislikes the game, has to dislike it 100%. Some people act that if I don't like the game for 10/10 then I am hater

I guess people who can't play the actual game have too much time on their hands to create all of these threads.

I understood the issue with Killzone 2 (although the story kinda had a happy ending).
I'd say Watchdogs ha issues.

But Uncharted and TLOU... When the end product looks THAT good, it's just disrespectful to the developers to nitpick it like this.

As a Puddle Truther, I was annoyed with the way DF ran interference for Spiderman upon release. No doubt TLOU2 would get the same treatment.

Not going to watch all that, because the outcome is the same.
Game looks good/great for a 7 year old console with shitty components, but fans also do it to themselves by supporting a company seek to cut too many corners.

PS5 is no different (if there won't be a Pro model), it might sound great and all and the jump is 5x of base PS4 (whoop di fucking doo!), but they are butchering their own talent by limiting them.
I often feel that PlayStation studios spends a large amount of their time trying to figure out how to get shit to work because the parent company is cheap as fuck, fake this, fake that, variable bla bla.

At the end of the day you could also call it smart business, you could also call it taking your consumers for granted and for fools, because the average ones don't see it or know better.

If only they could release a console with infinite power, all would be well.

Not as Bad as ND stringing people along that UC4 would be 60 FPS for a year, but still pretty bad

Considering, targeting 60fps isn't the same as will be. Otherwise it would be a lie.

Everyone targeting something in development process

Been working on a video for this particular conversation, will be up on my channel in a few hours and then we can discuss more.

Yeah can't wait for you to completely absolve them of all responsibilities and sugar coat it. No wonder every single person who dismisses the obvious downgrade liked your post and is looking forward to it.
Yet DF is supposed to be the biased one.

If this was Ubisoft or EA, people would be bringing out knifes and forks.
Crowbat needs to do a Naughty Dogs downgrade as he did for Ubisoft.

The game remains visually impressive and is in the top 5 of the gen easily but

  • The lighting has been dimmed.
  • Some NPCs in the game have full transluminescence.
  • Color calibration has been changed.
  • The intensity of the God Rays has been reduced.
  • Specular clarity has been disabled.
  • Some pop-ins.
  • The disappearance of some puddles.
  • The quality of the motion blur appears to have been reduced.
  • The quality of some shadows has been lowered.
  • The enemy AI no longer interacts with the environment.

It would be a shame if the PS5 version can't fix this.
The pop-ins may be just a bug or something not properly tweaked related to when they have to change the LOD of certain vegetation assets. Maybe it's something they didn't have time to fix and may solve it in a post launch patch even in base PS4.

The puddles and frogs are in the game, but in other locations. Like the position or some fallen tree or the location of a shop, they may be in other places due to artistic decisions, level design, etc.

Lighting being dimmed, color calibration, intensity of god rays, etc. are just artistic choices. I assume enemy transluminescence, specular, motion blur and shadows may have been lowered to get a steady performance, I think we may seem them back in PS5 or maybe in the PS4 Pro version (I don't know if the comparision video is from the PS4 Pro or standard version.

The enemy AI has different environment interactions as shown above in other video in the post #31, but maybe not exactly the one highlighted in the comparision video, or not exactly in that moment or specific location, or the person making the comparision video didn't know how to activate it. As an example, enemies also have speeches while being on their knees after being shot: to activate them, shot them in a leg and point them with the gun while being close.

Huge downgrades especially on the lighting and animation parts
There are downgrades and some changes in lighting, but there aren't animation downgrades. The game features a ton of (great) animations and in most cases blending and transitions between them is simply awesome, they just changed or replaced some of them, and the way they are activated or blended makes very difficult to get the same result twice because they change depending on their environment, position, transition, etc.

Regarding the 'downgrades' or changes I listed, they are normal for a game that was under development a couple of years from its release. Not because some conspiracy or because wanting to make false advertisement or something like that, just because during development some things get tweaked, changed, reduced, removed o moved to a different location because maybe in that specific case it did work well, but when mixed with other stuff added later caused bugs, affected performance or looked bad in other areas so they had to do that to solve these issues. In many cases, and specially in very technically ambitious AAA like this one, it's basically impossible to match 100% 1:1 the look of a game and specific scenes 2 years before release.

There is a downgrade but its still a great looking game, lets be honest here. Its no WatchDogs or The Division case.
Naughty Dog does have a reputation to uphold, so a little exaggeration was used in early showings.

The downgrade is very real.

The final game looks only slightly better than UC4, which is a smaller leap than I expected.
To be fair Uncharted 4 is still a gorgeous game, and this is the same hardware its not like the PS3 days when developers had to find customized solutions because the CPU was so hard to program for they took years to figure it out, PS4 is relatively easy so we see better results much sooner.Naughty Dog already made use of the full potential of PS4

Indeed, I can see there are some downgrades. Character models in E3 2018 version have literally cutscene quality even during gameplay. Maybe this is how PS5 port will look like?

But judging TLOU2 graphics quality based on PS4P platform I'm still surprised seeing how good the final game looks. There's a clear difference even compared with Uncharted 4 and both games run on the same platform.
