I found a great video that talks about pattern recognition. While some of us might be taking things a bit far and swearing off anything that's remotely woke, I think most of us just recognize patterns that signal poor quality. The latter being more likely the case.

My take on this situation is that I have been guilty of subscribing to many of these culture war YouTube channels and I am trying to reel myself back in. I get that woke idiocy is spreading to previously based game companies in and out of the USA, but it all becomes so tiring whenever by Smash JT, Vara Dark, and others like them are just nonstop woke bashing. When Vara Dark is actually streaming video games, she can be an enjoyable watch. O recently unsubbed from a lot of those types of youtubers, especially Jon Del Arroz and Melonie Mac who turned out to be real grifters, not the ones that are usually falsely labled as grifters.

it is still important to pay attention though because I do not want my limited dollars and Time going into woke slop like Miles Morales, TLOU2, Horizon Zero Dawn, Ass Creed Shadows, and that new game Naughty Dog is working on.

I've had to do the same with reeling myself back on those channels. It just gets tiring and they just milk this culture war stuff like crazy. I get keeping an eye out and calling stuff out when it happens but they just go on and on. I'd like a more balance approach of talking about what you love and hate or searching for games, movies, and comics to love.

I'm subscribed to her as well. She really goes in depth with her analysis and her criticism. I like her a lot.

Some of these rage baiting youtube channels should be careful not to do it too much or people are going to eventually get tired.

But it's contradictory for him to say justification is unnecessary and then justify that these patterns are "a reliable predictor of low quality." Quality concerns can be justifiable, but that undercuts the personal preferences argument by capitulating that one's tastes can be invalidated if they cannot be justified. That said, I'll reiterate that the video is informative and recommend others watch it, regardless of my critique.

Whenever someone says this was done for "modern audiences" i instantly roll my eyes because it tends to be an indicator of a project that prioritizes identity politics and not good storytelling. But, one movie where the director said such thing and still ended up being a good film was the new Dungeons and Dragons movie with Chris Pine. So, while some patterns may be an indicator of bad quality that doesn't mean it is always true.

No. I meant it could be "woke" but still turned out to be great. Just because a piece of media is progressive doesn't mean it can't be good. A great example of this is Arcane on Netflix.
