The drama is DUMB on both side of the woke/anti-woke extreme spectrums - KCD 2 boycott

I just love that this game is selling like hotcakes. Shows how both the purple basement dwellers and the incel/racist camps are pissing themselves in impotent rage while having zero consumer power compared to all the "normies" who just want a cool video game.

I've only just killed Runt in the 1st.

Do you have any idea how hard it is to have the 2nd game installed but You're still plugging away at the 1st??

As for the drama, it's all bollocks. Anyone with an ounce of sense knew the 2nd would be good regardless.

Not gonna lie, the fence sitters/mOdErAtEs/cEnTrIsTs are becoming the most annoying these days. You have this aura of enlightenment about you, like you have solved the enigmas of the world and these peasants are fighting over their weak ideologies. Tip your fedora lil bro.

Veilguard failed because of the pushback against wokeness, there is nothing else to discuss, you can circle around like a clown trying to justify anything else, but thats what happened. KC2 was not even close to being in the same ballpark, also because the wokeness wasnt clear in the trailers, you had to follow people that discuss that type of shit on social media to find out, not like they made a trailer about you being gay or the black dude calling you primitives. Get a fucking grip. God I hate fence sitters so much.

It's minor/optional/non-forced/whatever bullshit popped first in your head, so doesn't count. Also have you seen these CCU numbers? Consumers spoooooke
I don't really care about what you think doesn't or does count. I've seen people like you move the goalposts until they're half across the world. Also, sales numbers don't determine what I consider to be woke. Spider-Man 2 also sold very well and I still wouldn't play it because of its woke elements.

Ah, so I have to belong to one of the cults. Smart thinking lil bro.

Veilguard failed because it's a crap video game with crap writing that preaches shit no one but a small niche even cares remotely about. I wouldn't buy a nazi game (whatever form that might take), but I sure as hell wouldn't buy something like Veilguard and Concord either. But these games didn't fail because of anti-woke power. They failed simply on the merit of being shit.

It seems like everyone is using the same example to prove their respective points, but the reality might be that the one side hated it for being "woke" and the other side didn't bother with it it for being shit. Hence, failure.

Uh oh. Did I just "both sides" this argument too?

He died 70 years prior of game's story events

The poster said "not based on any real person at that time"... He didn't say "a real person not of that specific time period"

And 70 years in the ancient world isn't much difference... Not like it is now. 70 years might as well have been 100 years ago with how much has changed since 1955. Not MUCH changed back in Mansa's time in 70 years.

I do buy and play games regardless of whether you play as a chad or a black women or whatever. As long as the game is fun I don't give a shit. Problem is that most of the people who want to push certain politics (both "woke" and "anti-woke") are shit designers and shit writers.

I wager that a good story and good gameplay are not seen by some because they don't like playing as a POC or a gay person or some mixture of the two. therefore, it's crap and is bad because of that.

But they'll tolerate (I hate that word) it if it's a fighting game or a racing game. Although I remember there being some kind of controversy surrounding Eddy Gordo from Tekken? Maybe I'm mistaken...

Is it really a minor character if the dude has 70 solid minutes of dialogue?

I'm pretty sure he was sarcastic.

I'll keep it real, Woke is something that never crossed my mind before, and for a while I though nothing of it. But now, It's impossible to ignore, it infected pretty much all entertainment products coming from US. And now I'm painfully aware of it, every trailer, news or even presentation, I've become too sensitive of that shit, and NGL, I don't buy, watch or consume any product that has woke ideology in it, mainly because their activists are more concern about "the message" than with the product overall quality and as result they are all garbage.
It's too soon to determine if Ghost of Yotei or Intergalactic will be woke projects, but let's not kid ourselves, based on the recent output of Sony games it is very likely the case, and if these projects end up being trash because of it, I won't buy it and I will express my opinion in forums when we discuss the game.

I'll continue voting with my wallet as is my right, and if we can in the long run, get rid of these projects I'll be ok with it.
Both sides are a bunch of hypocrites who are very selective and seeing "wrongdoings" only when that is convenient for them.
I think most of us are quite consistent with our vision about wokeism, can you give an example of the selective aspect you mention it?

"The Dark Ages" has become somewhat of an outdated term as modern historians have learned more about that time period. Also, if one still wants to use it, it would make more sense to use about the period from 500-1000 A.D.

I just needed to share my thoughts on everyone bashing the centrist "both sides" folk in here. You need to recognize that this is a legitimate stance to take on so many issues in life as things are rarely that black and white. Perhaps there are flaws in each side of the argument. Or some arguments make sense while others don't. Perhaps they don't even care about the argument strong enough to let it affect their habits. Or the people that are firmly on either side have become so freaking insufferable that they don't want to be associated with either label and just want to carry on with their lives.

Being "woke" or "anti-woke" or woke on specific issues and the opposite on others or just indifferent to all of it - they are all valid ways to get through life and still be a good human being and gamer. This "if you are not one of us, then you are one of them" or "you are a coward for not picking a side" attitude is only befitting of bullies who can't handle those who don't play by their rules. Well, screw their rules. No one needs to kowtow to them.

There clearly is polarization on this topic and by definition, that means there are two sides. But there is a spectrum within those sides too. The OP is trying to highlight the extremes within those sides. The ones that constantly push the "woke" or "anti-woke" agenda at the cost of anything else productive or meaningful. The ones that make games unplayable or forums unreadable because they have nothing else of value to bring to the discourse, because it's either a constant lecture or whining about every single thing. The type that wanted a solid game like Hogwarts Legacy to fail because of JK Rowling's opinions, or want KCD2 to fail because of optional homosexuality(?) or the presence of one black historical figure within 100 years of the game's setting (who also clearly comes across as totally unlikeable anyway). You can be woke or anti-woke. But you can also be a woke or anti-woke snowflake. When you become that hyper sensitive and make it your sole purpose when engaging with the community, you have become an activist pushing a very specific agenda. And it's ok to be an activist if that's what floats your boat, but do it with some semblance of self-awareness so that you don't make a fool of yourself. This behavior on either side should rightfully be called out.

The culture wars are here to stay. Both the "woke" and "anti-woke" movements are here to stay, whether you like it or not. If you think one side will go away just because of one US president, then you are delusional. That's not how human collective consciousness works. But not all of us want to keep fighting all the time and just want to enjoy our gaming threads without either side shitting all over it. So kudos to you, OP. Call it out. A lot of us are indeed sick of it.

You're looking at it backwards, good games don't just manifest themselves into existance. They are a result of the talent in the studio at the time of development.

If the people with sway at a studio are very progressive or even 'activists', the final product is more likely to be a flop. I could write an essay on how this comes about, but that is the conclusion.

Now when the tide is turning it's "both sides"?

Nah, it's the people with purple hair.
I mean when "complaining" about "muh both sides" doesn't work in passing comments, I guess make a whole thread "complaining" about "muh both sides".

It's the laziest "stance" and easiest way to give off false impressions of rationality.

As I've said countless times on this forum.

Upper Echelon said it better than I could ever. Both sides are an embarrassment to gamers. The Hogwarts Legacy cancel attempt or the KCD 2 boycott. Both utterly dumb.

Do watch the video 100% to see the thread of grifting

Grifters are farming for extreme reactions. The fact that KCD2 of all games even gets boycott talk says it all how at the bottom of the barrel youtube comment sections has become (and leaking to hardcore forums like here sadly)

Much like flat earthers, you find a community and you get your dopamine hits from peoples you suddenly find are like you and talk to you. Oh a little mean one-liner and you get hundreds of likes. You truely understand the dynamics of society with just a few one-liners like go woke go broke and a huge echo chamber in the youtube grifter's comment section all tapping themselves on the back and upvoting any flock mentality comment that doesn't deviate from the channel. You found your little hole in society right? Using logic and trying to argue in good faith, that's too much fucking typing and no easy upvotes. Why would brain go for hard things? Easy dopamine hits.

Its quite sad. What even is this generation of gamers? So much black and white. Drama farming. Its tiring.

I agree and its why I've become so disenfranchised with the gaming community for the past couple years. I find myself with no desire to be associated with the wider gaming community because so many who would call themselves the same are just an embarrassment both to observe and interact with.

I long for when this culture age is over, but it seems like it will take time.

People who play videogames had always been treated like less than dirt. If you want social approval then you shouldn't be playing videogames. I recommended something that involve references to warfare, like the old Greek Olympic events. Or even ball games. Once again another way to physically train in war.

If you care about climbing the social hierarchy and make yourself look good in the eyes of others, you are in the wrong hobby. Gaming is about your PERSONAL gratification, not about broadcasting how high your social status is.

Dude, im a grown adult whos buys comic books and action figures. This has nothing to do with social hierarchy. Im already low on that end.

This has to do with dignity. And while gamers are not often dignified by others, there was a time we at least dignified ourselves. To an extent.

Dignity is internal, not external. Many a time had people lost their dignity trying to chase approval from others. if you need others to like you, you lose dignity in the process.

Well, it's not like anti-woke people are forcing their ideology into games that never had any before, so I guess you agree with the people that don't want the woke stuff, since then nobody would be having to give any backlash over woke stuff being added to games.

I can agree with everything you said.. but there is clearly some "centric" people that never, ever, made one comment about "wokeness" but suddenly is veeeery bothered by the "endless" culture war ... woke didn't bother them, anti-wokeness clearly do.. and yet they are "neutral" and both sides are "bad"... its easy to smell the bullshit. We had several topics about ridiculous reviews like the one agaisnt Wukong, and multiple and multiple articles about gamers are phobes and racists and so on...and yet these people never showed up... but now behold, in every topic they are complaining about "anti-wokeness and how bad we are just like the other side"......And also its a very old and overused tactic.. "if you can beat them, join them".. in this case make then (anti-woke) join you (woke) and appear that they are as bad as you (you as in general not specifically targeting you mate) ... when everybody is BAD nobody is ...

Also.. everyone calling thenselfs neutral/centric not anti-woke .. well.. you are anti-woke... to them .. because with them there is no middle ground.. or you agree with 100% of their ideas and ideals or you are ANTI.. plain and simple. So sure you can be centric/neutral in here, with us.. not there. There you are as radical as any of us who are anti-woke if this is a thing.

Many of us here are in our 30s and 40s on average, there was some thread that asked the age of members here and how long we have been gaming. So many of us here started gaming in the 80s or 90s.

We all remembered when video games were all about game play and visual art style/graphics. There were no real world politics or social issues shoehorned into the game with an agenda.

What happened? Who injected these divisive real world issues into games? And most importantly why? Only one side did it. This thread was created in bad faith, imo. Only one side turned the western gaming industry upside down by injecting real world politics and social issues in it. The other side came into existence to massively pushed back on this.

Yep one side was created to change the whole world and how people think, act and talk, to try and change the core even of milenial biology and science and whoever disagrees is basically hitler... the other side was created for saying "wait a minute, maybe..." .... but they are the same. Equally.

You dont get liked by others because you chase approval. You get liked by others because of your consistency, your values, and the qualities you display.

Many in the gaming community have forgotten that and spent their time chasing upvotes, retweets, or YouTube views. Parroting popular stances instead of working out their own.

Woke or anti-woke (the butchering of that word pains me to even type it out how this culture war nonsense has twisted it) don't bother me. I don't care one iota about either ... But...

The SCREECHING from anti-woke types makes my skin crawl... The SCREECHING by woke types makes my butt itch... I accept a game based on if I like it or not. I don't make judgements BEFORE it releases because of the content. And I don't make judgements on if people should buy it BECAUSE of who created it either. It's immensely crazy!

You aren't wrong, but the matter of fact is that the first side doesn't even make up 5% of gamers, while the latter makes up the vast majority.
Which would be fine if the former (identical to their horseshoe twins) wouldn't claim to stand for "gamers" when they objectively don't, as proven by all outcomes.

I don't think there's even a single example of a game (or any media product) that's actually good having been seriously hurt by one boycott or the other.
If anything, those just tend to serve as a sales boost - see Hogwarts Legacy, an objectively thoroughly mediocre game (except the really nice environment art) boosted into a huge success by impotent outrage.
Which is great, because maybe HogLeg2 will actually be an above-average game with that prospect.

I have an inkling all that nonsense drama about nothingburgers will do exactly the same to KCD2. Boost sales.

I play games with gay people and *gasp* black people. I also play games that oversexualize women, because I like tits. I don't need my games to pass purity tests of any kind.
Couldn't have put it better myself. The only 'test' a game should pass is "is the core gameplay loop fun?". Thats it. If it is, normies will put up with both DEI and whatever is the opposite of that as well. BG3 and KCD2 sales appear to be proving this.

I feel I've missed some of this.

Just make cool video games, with all kinds of characters and variety. Add a bit of bumming. It's all fine to me. Just make it coherent and make sense.

I admit I'm old but something to the levels of spider man 2 is a little too much for me. It feels obviously forced and added by a company like sweet baby. It's not like a throw away few sentences but regular hitting you over the head signalling.

Is kingdom come 2 similar? Or is it just an option to have a good old time with another guy?

Plus, the black dude seems fine. Just looks like a bit of a douchey character from what I've seen that thinks all his food and intelligence is better than others. Doesn't make it true. Plus I've only seen the screenshots on here so it's not like I've played the game to get a proper feel of his character.
