The Last Of Us season 2 could run through 4 seasons with a shorter season 2 and a "much larger" season 3. No padding or filler expected.

I found the best parts of season 1 were the episodes that expanded the universe. The TV show can do that while the games really couldn't. I'm not too concerned with filler because Craig Mazin is a fantastic showrunner. They can go down interesting paths that were not in the game

If anything season 1 was too efficient in hitting all the beats of the first game. A little filler would've helped connect with the characters.
They're saying 4 seasons now, but if the show is still popular when Last of Us Pt 3 comes out, it might need another 2. Wishful thinking: Intergalactic comes out in 2026 and Pt 3 comes out in 2029.
