Ahem. Yeah, everything's gone smoothly with the initial launch. We're in the process of doing a major design update so we'll see about getting some sort of visual integration in place with that so you can show off a little (without being obnoxious/tacky...or Nazi-themed, sorry @ilfait).

Any plans on making more varieties of achievements? Especially looking at the gaming and off topic ones - they're kinda boring. It's just relating to how many threads you made,.

Could there be achievements that reward other actions? For example:

1. You made a thread that generated over 100 replies in 24 hours
2. You made a thread that generated 20 reactions
3. You made a post that generated any 10 reactions
4. You made a post that generated 10 LOL reactions
5. You made a post or thread that is gifted gold
6. You put 20 users or more on your ignore list
7. You went 12 consecutive months without having anyone on your ignore list
8. You went 6 consecutive months without anyone you follow being banned
9. You got temp banned
10. 5 different users reply to the same post you made
11. You have replied to 50 users
12. A thread you made has been on the first page for over a week
13. You quoted someone's avatar
14. Someone quoted your avatar
15. You have gone 3 consecutive months without any of your posts being reported for violations
16. You have 20 users following you
17. You have logged in from an IP address from 5 different nations.

You get the idea.

There are definitely plans to expand the achievement system going forward. Thanks for your thoughts and ideas! Some of these should be possible.

I'll do some investigating and see what's happening here. Don't worry - once it's fixed you'll still get credit for past reactions.

Good to hear.

I'm particularly partial to ones like 7, 8, 12, and 15 as these sort of attempt to encourage good behavior in users and prevent bad behavior. Yes, they could be gamed, but technically so can all the current achievements, as well as most future achievements. It'll be pretty obvious who's doing stupid shit like bumping their own threads with nonsense just to keep them visible.

I also like the idea behind achievements like #17, that tie into the real world. A plucky NeoGAF user should take a page from Evilore's book and be encouraged to explore the world. You could technically game this too, with VPNs and proxies, but most of the common proxy IP ranges could be restricted, and besides what kind of loser would go through all that trouble anyway.
