Typical mentality of AAA companies. They never just take accountability for the fact they are out of touch with what people want.

Seems like every large game company wants to please the just stop oil furians and then are upset when normal humans avoid their product.

An open world Star Wars game could have been amazing. Give it a light/dark option of play, be a good guy or a total cunt, so many options in this universe. They chose a boring fucking stealth game with a wishy washy twat as a main character. Thats why only a few thousand are playing it, cant hide that no matter what they do.

This is why indies are saving gaming for me, they dont give a fuck about Resetera. The Factorio dev for example, so confident in his product he openly said he will never put it on sale. Sure you get a few cunts who lose their minds over that, but recently released a new dlc and that and the base game were concurrently #1 and #2 on steam global sellers. THATS how u do it, make a good game in the first place and dont be an apologist to please a small audience of wankers

Lol, it doesn’t matter which data is shared. Any data on earth will absolutely get some people angry. To be woke stop doing anything with data people! Help Ubisoft!

I honestly expected publishers to sooner go after Steam for being transparent with player numbers.
When everyone can see clear as day that your game is tanking, it can't be good for business of these less than stellar games.

With this and forcing developers to disclaim what exactly a dlc or season passes will include or they will grant refunds... ubisoft is gonna die a slowly death

Like Elon would say... "go fuck yourself"

gaf loves to eat up shit especially Ubisoft shit. That being said, big corporations wanting control and less transparency is pretty common.
I wouldn't blame companies so much for this, other than to say "make a better game". But the market is very competitive, and everything counts.

I don't think player count hype has been or will be helpful to gamers in the long run.

These guys are terrified of seeing AC: Shadows bomb and causing a massive public spectacle.

It’s 100% fake news for the crowd to get enraged. That website has a “Kotaku detected” section: https://www.smashjt.com/kotaku-detected

And this is a sentence from this “piece of news”:

It’s all bullshit for the anti-woke panic mobs. It’s where we are. Disinformation, grifting and outrage. Buckle up.
There should be a woke/anti-woke battleground OT for people to post in. Any thread started on a rumour is annoying, not just DEI ones but any fake news retard rumour thread.

To be fair the concurrent players metric is only really usable for multiplayer titles.

For pure single player games who cares.
Ubisoft, apparently. Steam is ubiquitous enough that concurrent player numbers can provide a degree of accuracy in determining if a game is landing with the wider audience of gamers.

Sadly so many comments on here are just like this. Any thread about an upcoming game will have half the people saying how woke and shit it will be. I was just in the indiana jones thread and people are moaning that the woman will no doubt be lecturing them in the cutscenes.

It's crazy how obsessed people have become with this narrative.

Literally a rumour from someone who doesn’t know how business works.

“Hide from stockholder” is so stupid lmao like they will look at SteamDB.

The ongoing battle between anti woke and woke is so stupid. They cherry pick useless shit and project it, highly exaggerated drivel.

Neither of these groups play games nor do they care about the gameplay or the medium. They are here to grift, outrage.

Unfortunate.

Thanks to this grifter SmashJT, Grummz and like, I’m going to get AC Shadows Day 1 ( lol, jk it’s because it’s on Steam and I am itching for a new AC )

Do NOT listen to this shit from both sides of the discourse. Play games yourself.

You know this is total outrage bait made up bullshit since SteamDB is not at all affiliated with Steam. Cant believe anyone would give the author benefit of the doubt and belive them.

In the end it will only lead to devs optimizing, even single player games, towards a metric that has no real use. And gamers will swarm towards that game like a flock of flies on a turd.

But that swarm will leave just as quickly and your game is dead because someone found a graphics glitch (since all gamers suddenly have become DF-wannabes).

Wtf happened to just watch reviews to see if a game is to your liking?

I'm actually not surprised by this at all. We all know why they are trying to do this though. They're trying to put pressure on Steam and get rid of this before Assassin's Creed Shadows comes out and inevitably bombs.
