If I remember correctly, this was also the same case with Hitman - World of Assassination (1ST Part) where you had to login to Square Enix's servers to even play the game on PC, but on PS4 and Xbox One, you can just go offline and play the game just fine. No always online requirement or any DRM. Sure, you would miss some daily DAU missions which could lead to trophies and achievements, but you can always get them later.

Though the pushback against Sony here is also for a myriad of other reasons, this is also one of the primary ones, especially for a fucking single player game with no online multiplayer component.

Screw PSN any all online requirements for single player games. It's as clear as day this is Sony's first step towards their dream of a luncher with direct sales. I say nay nay.

Rockstar games nowadays have multiplayer baked in....so its somewhat understandable. EA delivered their last game without this crap (too bad it was Failguard). And everyone hates Ubi's launcher/store as much as this useless PSN login.

It’s more Freegunner seething that these ports exist at all. Then they act like nobody is complaining about other logins, when we constantly are. The problem with these logins is eventually they will break the games completely.

Like this collection would still be available and playable if it didn’t require GFWL. Try to install Rayman Legends on a Steam Deck and you will get a message that you need an old version of UPlay that is no longer available. Of course, there are community fixes for all this but why am I jumping through these hoops in the first place? To pad MAU numbers that some empty suit can trot out at an investor meeting. Exactly. I still remember all the drama with Earth Defense Force 6 and the Epic login, and that game is niche as fuck.

Games should be released in a state that guarantees that they will be playable forever, and depending on login into a server couldn't be farther from that.

That's what's really crazy about all this. PC gaming is great but all that account shit and launchers within launchers like come on. CP2077 having a launcher is just weird as hell to me. You're not even some large publisher with tons of back catalog IPs but you need your own launcher in steam?
