As a console. As a third party publisher, I'm interested in alot of stuff 'Xbox' has announced for 2025/26.

And over the next decade, as a third-party publisher they're about to clean up.

(great) exclusive games push console sales, this is why the xbox 360 was so successful and the reason why people even bought the xbox one (titanfall) its a shame that MS after 20+ years in the console business still hasn't understood this.

College Football was a multiplatform game that gave Xbox Series a noticeable boost. GTA VI will probably do the same

They give a fuck because their pivot to multiplatform was largely caused by the declining console sales.
There won’t be a gta boost because retailers are barely stocking the console.

Don’t be surprised if the only way to get an Xbox Series one year from now is direct through MS.

Do you think they even care about selling consoles at this point? They'll make no money selling a few extra consoles. They'll make money releasing games on PS5 and Switch.
I don't but it could lead to more Gamepasa subscribers I feel they only care about Gamepasa and Publishing, well and releasing tons of different color controllers.

Game Pass subs have flattened for a few years now. PC is still a potential a growth market, though.

I'd be interested in seeing Series S and PS5 Pro* sales figures.

The Series S is under-powered but cheap and the PS5 Pro is the most powerful console on the market(?) but very expensive.

*after 12 months. for a more accurate picture of demand

Xbox Series X will probably be my last Xbox console.

The only way I'd stick around is if they merge the OS platforms (PC and Xbox) into one big open ended super console, which would be the smartest move they could ever make at this point in time. They would just have to bite the bullet on the modding and emulation scene.
There's only one way I can see myself sticking around, and that's if Sony say they're ending physical sales and Xbox play the uno reverse card, reminiscent of what happened to them in 2013.

Yes it is a mystery as to why so many are still buying Xboxes.

It's not a mystery at all.

A lot of people bought Xbox One and when the time comes they buy Xbox Series.

Most people don't know about what is talked about on forums. The biggest problem for Xbox is that their biggest sales months are November and December. If they can't clear a million in those months, it largely means that the casual fans are in fact tuning out.

But it's a two prong problem. Not only are fans tuning out, but it appears that Microsoft is limiting production. Several skus are no longer readily available. They've essentially cut the disc drive completely as an option on the XSX and are selling the digital at 450 dollars and they increased the price on the Series S to 350 with the larger storage.

I’m having a case of deja vu. This is the same kind of things people claimed with hardware like Zune and Windows Phone.

“Microsoft won’t abandon the hardware because it’s just a drop in their financial bucket, even if they’re just a niche player in the market…”

They shitcanned the Zune, abandoned Windows Phone, and sold NOKIA off to the tune of a $7.6Bn loss. Microsoft is a software and services company, it’s a miracle Xbox has been able to last as long as it has. They’re undoubtedly trying to find a way to allow Xbox users retain their digital libraries on other devices (read: Windows PCs) and will be out of dedicated console hardware soon.

A quiet discontinuation of the XBS seems to be happening. I'm going to look up the XSX digital and see what the internals look like to get an idea of how they're managing production. It has the exact same dimensions as the OG XSX, so I wonder if they're removing drives on existing devices that haven't sold and putting new cases on them.

I'm surprised people aren't complaining more about it. If you have a physical XSX and it breaks down, your only option is to buy a used one or try and repair it otherwise you'll be locked out of your physical games forever. Also odds are the next console won't even have a physical option...

I definitely think for digital owners they're working on virtualization, but there's no guarantee on how good that will work or whether it'll cover all digital games.

At any point Nadella could decide the ROI on Xbox hardware isn't worth it even for the Xbox gamepass subscription revenue and royalties. I doubt that will happen, but it could.

Here you go, this guy compares the OG Series X, the White All-Digital Series X and the Galaxy Black 2TB variant too:

I watched a different video before I posted my comment, I just didn't edit the comment.

I don't watch Austin Evans videos. I try my best not to give grifters views or clicks.

Well, I would say “software sells hardware”, but that really isn’t true if you no longer have exclusive software.

I love my Series X, but not really for the exclusive Microsoft games.

I just watched the video... in all of his talk, he didn't bring up the 30% cut on all transactions if you have your own storefront. That's what a console ultimately is. that's what Xbox is losing.

Good point and often overlooked in these conversations. Good reminder for anyone who says "MS doesn't care about consoles." Of course they do. Not only does their console hold 80% of their GP subs, but it generates (or could generate, anyway) enormous revenue based on a 30% cut of every game and all microtransactions purchased on that console.

Ah now you see, Microsoft next-gen console is going to blow away the competition

- release console
- put Steam on it
- ???
- make megabucks in profit

I have been Xbox for the last 2 generations and decided that I am going Nintendo only from here on out. I just don't see any reason to stay with MS and don't really care for Sony

I'll never understand this logic. Most games aren't made by Sony, Microsoft or Nintendo.

Why "care for" any publisher? Care for the games and the platforms where you can play the games.

Do you go to the movies and ask what major studio produced the movie? "Oh, it's Paramount? I don't care for them. Which movie is Columbia Pictures? I'll just watch that."

Thats a good question. Whats your take on this?
1. When PS5s were sold the lack of games wasn't a thing yet, we only recently understood how fucked the pipeline was
2. Money hats and 3rd party games and the few cross gen games carried PS5 the first few years
3. Xbox imploding, moving games to PS5, and Switch delaying helped leave PS5 as the only viable console for the informed
4. Lack of a lower end sku prevented tempted buyers from buying the wrong(cheap) product early and coming to regret their console purchase well before the end of the gen
5. Rumors and availability of higher end sku drove interest in some circles, possible due to GTAVI probably not being on PC for a year after launch, it is also indicative of health of the brand as new flagship indicates lots of R&D MS just didn't do(they put out a lot of "new" controllers though)
6. Libraries were already on PS5 from PS4
7. Full BC and PS4 had way better games than Xbox One
8. Riding a huge wave of popularity from PS4 era

Just a few.

I'm talking in general, in the history of gaming.

Well, I was speaking of PlayStation. I don't care if Microsoft or EA or whoever is the publisher, as long as I can play whichever games I want. Basically, anything that isn't a Nintendo first-party game, is on PlayStation at this point.

I don't get the people who are saying things like, "lol, Microsoft published that PS5 game, so Xbox wins!".

Microsoft wins

Xbox loses

I don’t care what they call their games division

Exactly. But long-time Xbox fans who have had their identity wrapped into the console, want to pretend they are the same thing and that Microsoft going third-party actually a win for them.
