Why do you think studios are afraid to make (continue) those old games?

1. Old game didn't sell enough to warrant sequels.

2. Sequels to old game saw diminishing returns and plans for future installments were put on ice

3. Sequel to old game abandoned its identity and was turned into something else, like a live service game, and the core audience bailed, hence no more sequels.

4. Creators of old games didn't want to continue making said old game, either due to creative burnout or just burnout in general.

5. New generation of game makers don't want to make other people's old games so they make new games old people don't like

The old games are not as popular as you think, the number of old people who actually care about them is not as many as you think, after a certain number of years, reviving an old franchise is just as much work and uncertainty as making an entirely new game, etc.

Like, Sony goes out there and says, "we are making a new Warhawk!". Like 14 people on NeoGAF and ResetEra cheer and 98% of people just shrug. For those people, it might as well be a brand new game with all the headwinds that come with it. These franchises do not have the juice that people think they do.

Everybody thought the same thing about Dead Space. Then they made it, it was great, and sold like shit. Ended the franchise.

Which franchise do you think would be successful day 1 purchase for everyone that is not currently in production besides Bloodborne, Half-Life, Splinter Cell, or Parasite Eve? Note that a new Castlevania, Ninja Gaiden, Fire Emblem, Zelda, Horizon, TLOU, God of War, Halo, Gears of War, Resident Evil, Metal Gear Solid, Final Fantasy, Baldur's Gate, Divinity Original Sin, Mass Effect, Persona, Xenoblade, Mario Kart, Mario Party, 3D Mario, 2D Mario, Donkey Kong, Call of Duty, Pokemon, Battlefield, GTA, Sims, Assassin's Creed, Sonic, Star Wars, Madden, Monster Hunter, Hogwarts, Dragon Quest, Mortal Kombat, Streetfighter, Tekken, Animal Crossing, Smash Bros, Dragon Ball, Witcher, Pacman, Tetris, Elder Scrolls, Spider-Man, Batman, Diablo, Destiny, Kirby, Fallout, DMC, Metroid, probably fucking Uncharted and Guitar Hero is currently in production.

Edit: They should bring back my guy Mega Man and maybe some Burnout or Driver.

Yeah, and Dead Space isn't even that old.

There's way more good IPs than there are studio capacity to make them.

The reason why is because if you were to make Resident Evil 9, 10, and 11, you wouldn't be able to remake 5, 6, and 7. That's unacceptable.

They have agendas and want to get new people via "modern audiences" as they think the old fans will continue to play regardless, and in some cases, they are right, too many people play shit because Sony, or Microsoft or some other brand is on the cover. There should be more older games continued or at least have remasters so we can play them on today's machines.

Other cases, its just pure greed and or stupidity.

Capcom: I along with millions of others were waiting for Mega Man Legends 3, and they had it in the works and pulled the rug right out from under the dev team and canceled it.
They won't even remaster/port the originals. We have had all the old mega man games there is something like 40+ remastered, except for the Legends series. The series I love the most. Capcom refuses, like there is some spite with the original dev and they won't give. Its always asked for, shit i just want to play them on my switch without having to dig out a psp. Other than megaman, they are doing pretty good. Although I would like Breath of fire on modern systems.

Square/Enix - Vagrant Story, Parasite Eve, Brave Fencer Musashi, - games that were large sellers, amazing and critically acclaimed. Yet we get nothing since ps1. Where is a new Vagrant Story or at least a remaster/port. Nothing. It's like they would rather milk ff7 a thousand times over. Parasite Eve, can't be made for modern audiences without massacring the character. She is a femme fatal, hot and dangerous. Feminists hate it because she is sensual, hot, and a badass, so against modern audiences.

Konami- Where the hell is Castlevnaia? Its got multiple tv shows but no actual new games for over a decade. Lords of shadows was shit compared SOTN series, yet they fired Koji and no new Sotn has been made, Hell It won't ven come to the switch. All they have to do is make a sequel SOTN in 2.5d and it will sell.
Suikoden, it took them 25+ years to port the first 2 games out of 7 games in the series. We haven't had a new console version since 2005 (suikoden 5) why aren't these games on the switch/ps5? Where is a new game. Looking forward to the remaster of 1/2 but even that was delayed 2 years. It's ridiculous.
MGS - i can understand as they tried but did super bad with that zombie game, and without Kojima its kinda not the same.
Silent hill - got knocked out of the park with the sh2 remake, but why can't you play sh1, 3, 4, shattered memories, home coming, downpour, on modern machines? Where is a new game?

Sony- Resistance, Killzone, Infamous, Warhawk, Wipeout, Twisted Metal, Hevenly Sword, Colony Wars, Jak, Ratchet, Sly Cooper, Medieval, - none of these game series (multiple games for each) are playable on the ps4/ps5. They could of made new camapaigns and had their multiplayer gaas for Resistance, Warhawk, twisted metal or killzone but diddn't. It's almost like Sony doesn't like its heritage. Anything made before ps4 doesn't get a remaster. Yet they remaster a ton from the ps4 gen which is ridicolous. Its so bad that I don't even look forward to anything Sony anymore as I know it will be the same tired GOW, Spiderman, Horizon repeated (similar to old xbox and their halo gears forza). I'd love to just play the old ps3 games again.

Also where the hell is the ps1 digital games, I bought so many on psp/ps3/psvita and only a handful are released. ITs a ps1 game, they can just add them to the store. Don't even get me started on ps2 games.

Microsoft - At least they are trying some things with bringing back Fable, but they really don't have the heritage to fall back on like the other brands.

Ubisoft - Splinter Cell, no where to be found and can't play the old games. They even delisted them from xbox. Tom Clancy Single player games like Graw or R6 Vegas, All we get are AC and Farcry repeated ad nauseum. or Some gaas monstrosity like skull and bones, when they could of done a blackflag sequel. At least Anno is made. They own might and magic license. I want heroes of might and magic 8, might and magic 11 and a dark messiah 2. Don't even get me started on the woke shit.

Nintendo - They are doing fine. The only ones releasing older series ports, remasters and sequels, along with new ip. I guess releasing lower powered hardware means more games, along with developers mostly from Japan who don't listen to western activists. make good games and people will come.

This is all true for new games. Thing is it doesn't exuse ports or remasters. There is no reason we don't have ports of older games on modern systems. Either remastered or emulated. Also these will get people talking and they can see what people are digging. Imagine putting Killzone and Resistance trilogies out now. I guarantee you fps fans will be buying them up as the genre is medicore now, all it has is cod, and gaas, and even things like doom are now more puzzle platformer than actual fps.

There are so many awesome old franchises, old games - where's the continuation? Fucking demonic world blocks the soulful art

In Wayne Barlowe's book, God's Demon, the souls of humans in Hell are often turned into bricks to build buildings after The Fall. Interesting book but I haven't finished it yet... Okay, it seems I misunderstood what you said. "The evil world prevents the soulful art." but I read "blocks" as a noun and I thought the sentence was gibberish. Anyway, while I'm already talking about Barlowe, Geiger's art has been done in games a lot and we've started using Zdzisław Beksiński's art but once that's played out, it's time to start getting Barlowe-influenced art in games.

Mega Man legends got the shaft. They have made multiple mega man games since the legend series, but its been 25+ years and nothing from Legends. Meanwhile mega man got megaman 9, 10, and 11. Plus the Battle network games.
Burnout and Driver are also games that could use a sequel. Paradise was great, but even a smaller AA priced mission based game would sell. We don't get arcade racers anymore outside of forza horizon. Even need for speed is not there. Burnout filled my rock and smash desires that is not in modern gaming.

Probably in the minority but I'd rather have new creative stuff instead of endless sequels.

Cheap nostalgia is one of the evils of gaming.

The answer to all of these types of questions will ALWAYS - fuuucking ALWAYS be: maximum profit strategies driven by corporate greed and executed by soulless, shareholder-cock-sucking ceo's and management.
God forbid, a corporation does something to not always maximise their profits, but instead of artistic pride and the love for creation of something amazing. Cancer-like, continuous growth is the only thing that matters! This is - for example - why Blizzard is dead now or better, how Blizzard killed themselves. The Same with EA, Activision, Ubisoft, and many others.

Here is a good read (speaking with BioWare's co-founder Greg Zeschuk) that illustrates my point beautifully:

It's about profit potential, really.

They have access to tools and informations we don't. They don't make decisions based on nostalgia. They have to plan forward and for that they have to consider new audiences and tastes.

Also, if they are letting individual teams/studios pitch their ideas then the team has to be interested in making it first. I don't think it would work well if the CEO or whatever said "OK, it's time to make a new Resistance. Do your thing Insomniac" but the other way around, Insomniac thinking they can create something interesting with the IP and then pitch it to higher ups. Higher ups would then evaluate if the idea is good and if there is an actual market for it. They would have to benchmark resistance with other games from their time but also compared to whatever other thing Insomniac could be making with the same resources. Spider man, for example, has probably made more profit with a single game than the full Resistance franchise.

I'd guess they would also have to consider what modern audiences want. What's selling the most? A SP FPS with a MP component or a GaaS?

Really, what makes the Resistance IP special? If I remember correctly it sold less and less with every subsequent entry. Why would they think the trend would change with a new entry?

It sucks for the franchise fans but they won't go and make 100 million if they can make 200 million in the same timeframe and at least IMO it makes sense.

But they could try and see what would happen
Remember Rollcage and Burnout, I think many modern day players would be introduced to something awesome

These two points are contradictory.
I mean there is not continuation of soulful art, demonic succeeded to stop new releases of those games
Like The Holy Trinity made Doom franchise to continue because it's Doom, and it's something that managed to survive, because of what it includes, art, story elements, sound, thought provoking material, happiness because of gameplay. But no Burnout, no Rollcage because those games bring happiness and joy and this dark world doesn't like that

The least soulful thing would be to take the same studio who was successful in making a groundbreaking trilogy and then making that same team go back and make even more games of that I.P. when they desperately want to move on from it.

Remasters and remakes are usually good when a different team is passionate enough to want to do it well.
But no Burnout, no Rollcage because those games bring happiness and joy and this dark world doesn't like that
Then I would hope that you are looking for newer devs who are trying to carry the torch of both games. For example, I know that I won't get a new SSX anytime soon, so I instead found this game:

And I'm looking forward to this one:

I would love to see a new Duke Nukem in it's original style with all the humor made in a modern engine.

But i guess the mentally ill over at retardera would complain.

I heard Bandai Namco did market research to bring Xenosaga games to modern system but I guess it failed so they didn't bother......thats huge shame.

I hope they try again especially after Future Redeem expansion in XC3, I would bet you there are more people willing experience Xenosaga trilogy.

Because the people asking for those games are the same people who say “will wait for sale, I have a huge backlog anyway”.

And all the while the sheep are pumping hundreds of bucks into that free to play shovelware.

Microsoft: "Well, I guess people don't want Banjo anymore."
Banjo IP is a great example of things that 40 year old guys think will sell really well because they remember playing it as a kid, but honestly they'd be better off just making a new IP mascot platformer. I don't think the B&K IP has any value to a AAA publisher. Maybe an indie, but not for what AAA would want it to sell.

They've treated the IP incredibly poorly so it's no wonder it's not hot anymore. Plenty of IPs are decades old, like Superman, Batman, X-Men, Mario and Lara Croft, so it's not the age itself that's the problem.

Banjo wouldn't work as a collectathon, but I'd buy a new game in the series if it was a platform adventure.

Every IP you mentioned is magnitudes more well known than Banjo. The impression gen x gamers have of Banjo's popularity needs to be studied someday. It's important to keep in mind that young kids do not play consoles these days.

Because its proven fact that these games dont sell. Its all talk and hype and nostalgia goggles amongst gamers but when its time to pay up, they wait for a deep sale 2 years later. I think only FF7 remake first part exceeded expectations. But what happens after? FF7- 2, lowere than expected sales and you can be sure part 3 will be even lower. Or to be more relevant, EVERYONE played THPS so when they announced 1+2 remasters, the whole internet exploded. Games came out and they are brilliant. Guess what, sold like shit.

Also @OP, some franchises need to die after some time, not everything has to be COD or FIFA part 2700485858349. Let them stay in good memory.
