Nintendo live in their own dream world so who knows what they will do.

You just have to remember how bad internet was 20 years ago to how it is today, then think what the internet will be like in 20 years from now.

Imo both Xbox and Playstation will be streaming subsciption services that you play on pretty much any of your devices. So slowly bring exclusive games to new players over the coming years, well that could certainly give you a head start when everything goes streaming only.

Just my personnal take of course. Its part of the reson why i'm PC only as no one owns PC and PC gamers simply wont accept a streaming only future when hardware is such an important part of gaming to them. And obviosly the gpu and cpu makers wont be pushing for a streaming only future on PC when hardware is their main business.

While I agree that we'll eventually go to an all streaming future, I personally think PC will get there long before consoles will stop existing.

PC gamers were the first to accept digital only, and they will be the first to accept streaming only. The handful of people who care about graphics are just that, a handful. The rest of the PC crowd will happily play their Roblox, MMO's, CounterStrike and Fortnite as a stream.

It's not like it is in Japanese culture where you can become successful by being honorable. If you honor someone over in America, you bring weakness to yourself, and the only way to get rid of that weakness is to be an asshole.

What this means is the American public, after hearing about this, is not going to want to purchase Hi-Fi Rush for either system, nor will they purchase any of Microsoft's games. This is HUGE. You can laugh all you want, but Microsoft has alienated an entire market with this move.

They aren't abandoning their platform/hardware but they also aren't going to be afraid to publish games on rival platforms.

There are R&D and production costs related to developing, producing, manufacturing, and distributing consoles... They won't sell enough to justify this.

Streaming is the future. Even dedicaced gaming hardware like consoles will have to adapt. But somehow PC, who is under a monopolistic Microsoft who openly want to make their next Windows a subscription service, won't accept a streaming only future. Somehow PC, with offers like Stadia(too soon) Geforce Now and Gamepass, will resist it better than Playstation? Somehow Nvidia, who is a IA provider now, will fight for gaming when they let them die to the crypto boom? And AMD will just let Sony go away for a cloud based offer that don't need their tech at all when they are one of their biggest clients?
I am not against some of your points. But man, if the consoles are soon to be dead, PC will die too. Phones are taking over a lot of what we used PCs for. Use your phone and link it to your TV, or use your TV if it is good enough, and a lot of PC uses are gone. So please think about it instead of just looking at consoles like time is up, because PC have not a much better future if you look at it with enough pessimism.

They have to thread that needle carefully. Media and the community are not on Xbox side and will amplify every negative thing. Xbox is already by itself not the "hot" item, that people buy by default so each time they suffer the negative PR, it affects them. Though the situation with japanese market is very odd - even if they acquire SE or Sega, they won't make anything exclusive anyway (they even indicated that in their documents).

Though I don't expect them porting anything side smaller titles anyway. We saw that with Amazon Luna for example getting old Bethesda catalog games. Even PS+ got some old games. Maybe Pentiment is coming? I would double dip Hi Fi Rush on Switch 2 for sure as I was planning to buy Switch 2 though.

As I don't dabble in much multiplayer, I have not really heard anything on the matter since 2019-2020 when MS was publicly flogging Sony for the crossplay policies. Topher clarified to me that the situation has changed.

In saying that, I do remember MS hard stance on the matter back in day. It made more sense back in the Xbox and PS2 days when playstation players could be hooked up to a dialup connection. MS was in the wrong by the time the 360 and PS3 was around as I believe (I could be absolutely misinformed) the PS3 required broadband connection. I think it was a 128kb minimum if my memory is correct.

My point is I would separate the XBOX branding from PC entirely and as much as possible. If indeed they want to exit the console space I would lose the XBOX branding entirely and I think they will eventually do this. You'll see.

Why? Dropping the Xbox name and X logo would be like Sony dropping the Playstation name and PS logo. Makes no sense. A logo is important for brand recognition, would be better to remove PC from PC Gamepass because nobody talk about it that way and eventually the launcher will be the same no matter where it’s launched.

So, imo, this makes perfect sense. It is dumb they have waited until now.

They need to recoup dev cost on games that are more experimental or older games that allow Microsoft to gauge if new versions should be allowed to make a new game in a series.

Pyschonauts 2 is a great example. Banjo Kazooie HD collection is another example.

Then you have the opportunity to expand potential massive revenue streams brining World of Warcraft to all consoles, mobile, etc. Look at FFXIV. It has helped keep Suare Enix afloat.

Microsoft has another problem with Halo. They have dramatically damaged the value of the IP. (Even though Infinite is improving). I would consider bringing the original trilogy to all systems with cross platform multiplayer for the Halo 2 anniversary and remind children and younger audiences what Halo “can be”. This is true of Fallout as well.

Killer Instinct is another. I would bring Killer Instinct 2013 to all platforms and try to create a 2d fighter to compete with Smash, SF, and MK.

Personally, i would like to see Blue Dragon, StarCraft II and Goldeneye XBLA (the cancelled version) come to all platforms.

I think there is a big opportunity for Full House Poker and 1v100 for a GAAS also. MS has a lot of interesting opportunities ahead of it.
