Xbox will show the PlayStation logo in their showcases from now on, says Phil Spencer

"I think it’s just being honest and transparent about where the games are showing, and we actually even had this discussion last year for the June showcase, and by the time we kind of made our decision, we couldn’t get all of the assets done and it felt weird to have some of them in and some of them out."

"But I just want to be transparent with people – for shipping on Nintendo Switch, we’re gonna put that. For shipping on PlayStation, on Steam…People should know the storefronts where they can get our games, but I want people to be able to experience our Xbox community in our games and everything we have to offer, on every screen we can."

"And obviously not every screen is equal. Yeah, like there’s certain things we can’t do on the other closed platforms that we can do on open platforms, cloud – it’s different. But games should be the thing that we’re focused on. And the strategy that we have allows us to do big games, while also supporting our native platform from hardware to the platform and services that we have and that’s going to be our approach."

"And I know it’s not what everybody else is doing, but I just believe games should be the thing that’s at the forefront. Maybe it’s because of how I’ve grown up in this industry. I came from building games. But I think the games are the things that I see growing in their strength in what we’re doing and it’s because more people can play. So yeah, I’m just trying to be open and transparent with people."

Games first and transparency are on repeat - ie. he's said all that before. Same old talking points, but maybe he thinks it'll help get ahead of the outrage of a PS logo at a MS showcase. Plus, it's an attempt at saving face.

That and there's the idea that MS didn't become such a valuable company by continually propping up failing divisions. They've really hung in there with Xbox, but usually they just cut the under performing division completely.

Spencer has said he has to run a successful business from within Microsoft. Microsoft the corporation has given him all the resources they can give and more to do that. But even then they are still can't get there without fully embracing PlayStation and this is just another baby step in that direction.

Of course Phil, it was "impossible" to put PS5 in the trailers for Gears, Fable or Perfect Dark xDD, you don't even believe it yourself, you just didn't want to piss off your user base any more.

Well people wanted so much a Playstation Showcase 🤷‍♂️ :messenger_tears_of_joy:
The one year transition period to make people accept the new third party publisher reality is over.

The idea that it takes a bunch of resources to add a PS5 logo at the end of a trailer is hilarious. This is the most absurd lie ever by Phil. No matter how great that showcase was, and it was great, everybody would be talking about PS5 getting Xbox games if they did that. Xbox didn't want to lose the entire community in one night. And Phil surely wanted one winning moment that made all Xbox gamers applaud him

Phil is "all about the games" now. Says it's because of his background in building games. Man, this guy never stops the PR spin.

Then he talks about wanting to be "transparent." Yeah, transparent as a salesman...

I mean, I don't blame him. I'd do the same thing in his position, probably with less skill.

I think he is pretty transparent and I appreciate that, and I mean that by a corporate executive he's more open than most. I don't care about platforms I care about good games.

What a time to be alive a “small” Japanese company just kick the hell out of a trillion dollar US company bow your head in shame Phil!!!!
A Japanese company that isn't even operating at its full force compared to last-gen.

This gen has been a complete embarrassment for Xbox, they had a surprisingly good opportunity to claw back some marketshare but instead lost even more of it!

Exposing the sinister cartel of retailers who allow companies to pay for advertising space.
The way this is going there'll come a time when certain MS published games won't even come out on Xbox anymore because the sales aren't worth it...

PlayStation has to agree to that use of their logo?
They already agreed for Minecraft years ago, and probably for Bethesda and Activision games. I suppose that when you get a Playstation SDK Sony have rules about how and when you can use their brand. I find it funny that for years they forced studios to hide if they have a Playstation version of their games for 2 days if they appear in a Xbox showcase but now they will have to create Playstation version of them. Imagine being the last studio forced to do so...

This is the part people ignore

Without this move Xbox games was going to eventually die down & become smaller & smaller because people don't buy them but because they have PlayStation & Switch to support the game devs can make big games & have a chance of making the money back.

Does Microsoft display the PS logo in game for crossplay games? I've noticed in Space Marines 2 that PlayStation shows a TV screen logo for Xbox.

And why was they eventually going to die down and become smaller because people don’t buy them?

They made a constant push for Gamepass, going on and on about it all the time. They also did a poor job in making the new consoles have a better market presence than the previous consoles. That’s their fault and now people are expected to think what a great strategy this is, made by the same people who did a poor job in the first place.

And now we have the Xbox console fan, being made out to be the bad guy, the toxic one simply because the thing they enjoy is being devalued further and further.

It’s alright saying more choice is a great thing to play software, we are not seeing that being replicated by Sony and Nintendo on Xbox consoles.

It’s seems to be forgotten that they were already on millions and millions of devices via PCs, phones and Cloud yet some of the games still stunk the room out.

How do things get better if there is a lack of scrutiny in the media especially for the ones who have been overseeing all this and being paid millions in the process.
