South Park: Stick of Truth "New Kid in Town" gameplay demo [13 min]

I was already picking this up day 1, that was mainly thanks to it being South Park and know that Trey and Matt we so heavily involved. But after seeing that video, and reading the various impressions of the first 2 hours, I am more hyped for this than I have been for any one game for a long while.

Various impressions have talked about how there are so many jokes and reference packed into the world. I think Brad mentioned how that first 13 minutes took him much longer as he was looking in all the cupboards, draws and talking to everyone. You get a sense of that in the video, on the one hand I was glad it didn't explore the new kids room and Cartman's house, but on the other I was desperate to see what Cartman's mom had to say and get that Chinpokomon up in the tree by Butters house. March 7th (wish we had it same day as US) suddenly seems so far away. So glad its looking awesome though, makes these past couple years seem worth it.

In South Park the boys don't play with girls.

You're right, but I'm pretty sure there's gonna be a group of girls we'll have to fight against at some point in the game. Like Wendy, Bebe, Lisa Berger and others.

Man, I can't wait to see all the references to the show they're gonna put in!

I have always hated South Park, but I love Obsidian RPG's. Do you guys think I would still like this?
Just curious why? Before I ever watched SP I had this image in my mind it was this profanity-laced show for stoners. Then I watched it and got hooked because it's not only hilarious but very smart and topical. It's brilliant. I could understand hating Family Guy for example but South Park man I dunno...

Anyone remember the N64 south park game? It was sold out for so long that little boutique toy stores were selling it for $100+

I had it on PS1. I remember sort of having some fun with the multiplayer but the actual game was pretty damn awful. Chefs Luv Shack was the best South Park game of that era. I remember quite liking the minigames.

Yeah a friend of mine lent it to me when I was a kid. It was too repetitive, and that damn fog dragged the game down. Multiplayer was kinda fun though. The weapons were cool. All in all, I was just happy to have a South Park game related because it came out at a time I was obsessed with the show.

I bought it again two years ago. It still hasn't changed. And that final boss is damn near impossible to beat.

I've heard awful things about South Park Rally so I didn't even bother trying it. Chef's Luv Shack looked like it might be fun for a few minutes with these mini-games, but the quizz part means you have to play with a faithful fan of the show or else they'll feel lost.

Now this game... well let's just say that Stick of Truth looks like the definitive South Park game!

The N64 version was vastly superior to the PSX version. I rather liked the game, multiplayer was a good laugh. Me and a mate would always play a specific level with a big bridge over a canyon and throwing Terence and Philip dolls at each other over the gap trying to kill each other.

Great fun!

Damnnnn I was already getting it but that just made me want this game sooo bad. FFX and South Park are gonna have me loving March.

Nice, I like they use the same kind of "action" orientated round based combat you know from the Mario (&Luigi) RPG series.

Wonder if the console versions will have any performance issues. I normally get games on PC if given the option, but I'm considering getting this (and Dark Souls II) on PS3. Regardless, it looks exactly like the show, and I can't wait. Very impressive.

Pre-ordered for $45 from GMG thanks to their newsletter code. Thats the price it should be on Steam default but whatever GMG rules.

Didn't want to but I ended up watching the whole video. This has been my most anticipated game for like two years! I'm so glad it's finally coming out!

Yeah, you can get this for 20% off at GameFly with this code: FEB20OFF

It works for Titanfall too. I just bought this and Titanfall for PC for $95.98 with that code. Not a bad deal.

Another gameplay video from October for people who want a little more. Potential spoilers, of course.

There once was a maiden from Stoneberry Hollow. She didn’t talk much but boy did she swallow.
I have a nice lance that she sat upon... The maiden from Stoneberry, who is also your mom.

In one of the trailers they showed the group of girls in there all girl club (forgot the name of it, I think its called Sunshine or something?), so I'm guessing it'll be an event.

Don't want to watch too much, but I'm very excited.

EDIT: I'm going to go against the popular option, and I'm going to be a Mage.
EDIT 2: I notice the level cap is 50.

I love South Park. Can't wait to play this game.

Probably won't have time to really play it for a while, but when I do... oh yeah.

QUESTION: does anyone know if this game can be played local co-op? My wife (big SP fan) and I would love to play this together.

They have my money. This went from being kind of off the radar to a must have after that video. Looks like a love-letter to the jrpg's I played in the 90's. Hilarious jokes too. I have to have it. The inevitable Randy Marsh appearance will surely be epic!

I'm not trying to start anything here, but am I the only one who thinks this game is a bit to heavy on the cutscenes?

The battle system looks fun. It reminds me of Paper Mario, which is always a good thing.

That initial bit struck me as setting up the story and introducing the player to the various RPG systems in an interesting south park way. I doubt it will be MGS4 bad especially when it gets past what is essentially a tutorial and lets you just roam around the town doing stuff. I am sure there will be cut scenes and story bits throughout but that is just what happens in these type of games and I wouldn't have it any other way.

I never pre-order anything but this has me considering it.

It's a segment from the introduction and the tutorial, I'm not sure we can really judge off of that.

True. But there have been other gameplay videos (like when Cartman goes to the Giggling Donkey) that seem to have fairly lengthy cutscenes.

I just want to clarify that I do not mind the cutscenes, I just hope the game isn't overrun by them.

Yeah. Plus, its a very straight forward demo initiating one quest after the next. Brad mentioned in the Giantbomb video that that segment took him far longer to get through since there is a ton to explore.

I think the Jew class will be a D&D Cleric archetype. They have the Fighter, Mage, Thief... so naturally Cleric would fill the last slot.

EDIT: Probably should have called it the Rabbi class. Since Cleric/Priest is the typical healerish class.

Yeah, I kept seeing things and people I wanted to click on that the demo player passed by.

Soon. Soooooon.

Nah,I think it's more like a paladin. Plus, it'd be an intentional call back to Cartman's assertion that "Jews can't be Paladins."

I *think* the Jew class gets stronger the more damage/negative effects are on it.

I both swear I heard that before somewhere and the starting Jew weapon gives you +5% damage for each debuff on you.

What, no "Ginger" class?:p

Seriously, I'm more excited about this game than even Thief or Titanfall.
