Titan X Launch / Review / Tears Thread

You know, I thought the initial comments were pretty funny, but I just want to tip my hat to you for giving this person an honest answer. A year ago, I knew very little about PC hardware, and I think people forget that current gen consoles are an easy comparison point even if they are leagues apart.
I agree, and I wish that was more the norm around here.

I am trying to give MFAA a go. Andy's guide shows how to enable it here:

geforce-game-ready-344-75-whql-driver-mfaa-per-game-configuration.png

I do not have that option under my ACU, or anywhere else:

Anybody know where I can find it?

I am using the newest driver set - 347.88

EDIT: ohh ---- "MFAA support for SLI systems and other configurations will be introduced in future Game Ready Drivers"

Just loaded up Assassin's Creed Unity for reasons

4k, Ultra High settings, 4x MSAA -> 7.7GB VRAM

34fps

i know that there are better methods than MSAA. Some say you don't need AA at 4k. I'm just doing it to see what the VRAM usage looks like.

I told Smokey this over steam, but I called it. This is the PC GTA IV of this generation. It will take years before we see good frames. The game is just poorly coded.

Yeah, SLI minority curse. Anyway, you enable it in NVCP, then turn on MSAA in the game. It works by enhancing the game's MSAA.

So.

AC Unity. 4k, Max settings:

NO AA - 55 fps, 8GB VRAM
FXAA - 48 fps, 8.1GBVRAM
2x MSAA - 8.9GB VRAM
8X MSAA - 11.8GB VRAM
TXAA - 30-35 fps 11GB VRAM

it was raining so maybe i caught some weird vram spike on the 11GB number i dunno...but maybe...ubi reasons...the 8GB is legit though

i actually played with txaa. hovered around 35fps. goddamn if it didn't look good

I'm plugged into my HDTV and home theater in the living room. 1080p60 for the next few months before I upgrade to 4k. Still not happy with the latency on the TV models that are out so far. Plan to downsample everything for a while.

TWO Titan X's, for a....1080p display.

Jesus Christ man!

I'm downsampling from 4k. With that overhead, technically I need more power than Smokey! :p

Is it one of those games that will use a bunch of vram as a cache even if the game doesn't "need" that much memory?

I've never seen 4K on an actual 4K monitor, but I would want some form of AA on top. SMAA would probably suffice. You might even get better performance and IQ downsampling from 5K with no AA.

This is 5K here with just SMAA (downsampled, of course):

8GB VRAM with no AA... hrmm. I can only hope it caches really heavily... if so that could make the Titan X the card which has the least amount of stuttering in any ubisoft game ever (all games which stutter crazily due to streaming).

That has got to be running at 1912 bioscope frames.

Jesus. I guess I will likely play with AA off with Gsync.

So AC Unity is using over 8GB of VRAM for 4K. There's very few cards really capable of running that yet then.

You're trending a head of me in each test except FireStrike Ultra

Yeah kinda weird. Ultra seems to be testing 4k. Because I'm not running a 4k monitor, may be there is downsampling overhead? Dunno. But things are looking real good. Very very impressed by temperature and noise levels!

Downsampling does have some extra overhead in comparison to native screen resolutions. That would explain it.

Could you post frame rates all ultra with fxaa at 1440p and maybe 1080p?

If I drop PCSS and HBAO+ down a setting I can get 60fps, can't remember if I dropped textures to High though. Someone claiming AC Unity to be this gens GTA IV and it'll be years before good frames doesn't ring true. 980 owners seem to be already there at 60fps all ultra or nearly all. Ubisoft did a decent job with fxaa in this game.

So I can cap AC Unity at 60 on a fairly cheap GPU (970) and 4-5 year old i7 930 with pretty decent settings. GTA IV in my mind was stuck in the 40s for a while and not changing much with different settings. I find MSAA takes a big hit in AC and kind of misleading people into thinking its some monster of a game.

It still looks good at this res without AA. Me personally, I'd need a small amount.

So, no i7 5960X + SLI Titan Xs in there yet? There's an opening

sk3tch has filled that void nicely.

Is it one of those games that will use a bunch of vram as a cache even if the game doesn't "need" that much memory?

i can never tell to be honest. i'd take a guess and say it is. I can't see how the game actually needs 8GB VRAM at 4k for certain resolutions given that there was not a card out that could properly do that until this week.

I need to step my screenshot game up tbh. I've always gone the native route. Never really messed with downsampling.

Titan X SLI... you are insane :p

And why wouldn't you post some screens/webms if it looked so good :/

Also, did you already made a blog/website about your hardware?

No website yet. But I do have a Youtube channel that I may start doing some of this stuff on.

Yeah give me a few.

Managed to beat Smokey at Firestrike Extreme with 15358 (12th place). GPU maxed at 77 degrees with quite a bit of over clocking. All the pro over clockers are starting to flood in, so I don't think I'll last in the top 50 for too long! :D

Not able to compete as much on Ultra because of downsampling overhead. Still managed 12th place on that as well with 7924. I'm sure I'll get overtaken very quickly.

Since the temperature is still well within acceptable limits, I'm going to keep this as my final settings going forward. Time to test some games and downsample the heck outta them! :D

Firestrike Ultra is the 24.99 version right?

Gonna need it starting tomorrow :)

Yep

Ran it at 2560x1440, stock clocks, on Ultra High w/ fxaa.

Lowest it got during gameplay was 85fps.

I am such a weak person. Just pre-ordered a single EVGA Titan X SC, which will replace my current 780 SLI setup. I hope that this will make me happy ...

God, I mean just yesterday I was going to throw my money in a blender, just to see what it would taste like, but fuck it I'll buy 3 of these instead!

Looks like Newegg shipped my pre-order early!

Just got my tracking number. Should have it in a couple of days.
