December 2015 NPD (U.S. Hardware) Predictions - Closes January 12th

My prediction is Super Mario Maker in the top 10 just in time for Christmas - entirely derived from the Amazon December numbers.
Also Halo passing 2 million physical for the year and also making the top 10

Halo 5 sold 1,200,000 LT physical by end of last month, with 358,000 in November.
You believe it will have almost a +100% this month? Not gonna happen imo.

I think it will pass 2 million but only with digital and bundle.

In other news... the new 20% pre-order discount for Prime members. I think this could be a big deal. I'm anticipating some kind of answer from GameStop now that both Amazon and Best Buy are fighting so hard for pre-orders. Would be interesting if they did some kind of pre-order discount program for power up rewards members. Competition.

Would you feel better if I sent you a Mega Wool Yoshi?
They're adorable. Also great for working out.

Would much rather get a charger for my New 3DS from Nintendo tbh. It's been dead since the 2nd day I've owned it.

I have a really great idea going forward. Now hear me out on this one. What if we start charging people to read the NPD threads? Like whichever of us post the most get the biggest cut of that fat ass paycheck and we can get a revenue stream going for the expert analysis and deep conversation we provide?

Whose with me?

My prediction is entirely derived from Amazon best seller list for December so obviously it's entirely possible I'm completely off the mark. I had though Halo sold a bit more physically than 1.2 mil but I'd be surprised if it doesn't outperform the pitiful November numbers(for a Halo game).

Agreed, they have to do something. As of now they offer no incentive to purchase new games from them other than points. And frankly that is not enough compared to saving cash money off of games.

Who's.

You loose.

God damnit I knew something felt off

I was getting my games from Amazon the whole time so the discount just makes it that much sweeter. I hope they all continue with this initiative and expand upon it.

Amazon's move is really aggressive, 20% is a lot, especially with margins in retail. For consumers it's fine and also a statement pro physical goods. As they are not really successful with digital games it's only consequent.
Prime is something I just cannot believe is making them profit, but it surely is the way to pull people in. And the diversification Amazon is doing is breathtaking. I try to think of all the different things they have their fingers in and I am sure I even don't know half of it.
Roman Empire style.

Thing is Best Buy has a very very similar program going. If GameStop wants to maintain their position as the largest retailer in the industry they have to respond somehow. They offer no incentive to purchase a new game from them in comparison to their competitors

No drone delivery - no buy.

I would say it doesn't actually mean anything for either console. Kev did the same thing last month: he just likes to troll and get the fanbases riled up (see: every The Last Guardian thread until E3 2015).

It's fun to watch though.

Last month completely crushed my expectations though so I'm looking forward to the December stats.

Heavy beating usually comes with heavy breathi...

WHAT ARE WE EVEN SAYING
I assumed you two were making a soufflé.

You know something MAUGAF, I was just mowing the front lawn and it struck me. It was like Phil Spencer himself smacked me upside the head and told me "Open your eyes!". I did, and it was breathtaking.

Everyone's lawn was GREEN

Anecdotal evidence, I know, but from deductive reasoning, I came to the conclusion that everyone else's lawn was green. Green is the color of Xbox, and I have an Xbox One, so if I have an Xbox One and my lawn is green, this must mean that everyone that has a green lawn purchased an Xbox One!

Xbox One will win December.
And money.

Somewhere ServerSurfer is rubbing his hands together and whispering "yessssss...."
Awwww, that's not true. ='(

I don't suppose there's any chance we'll be getting those discounts on codes, is there? :p

I wish. Might have something to do with code availability dates and royalties given the timing of the charge to the customer. Digital pre-orders charge the customer at time of purchase, correct? Packaged pre-orders don't charge until ship. Pure guess, but I imagine there's something about the timing of these that complicates doing this kind of discount. I don't know though.

What Y2kev is obviously saying is that Microsoft sold one unit during the whole month of December.

I wanna see the receipt.
