Where do you stand on No Man's Sky?

If you don't like what you see by now then just don't buy it. It's not the game for you.

Me? I'll be playing it until my PS4 dies probably.

Don't worry, I'll vouch for them.
the fact that people are excited for what has been promised to us without a real guarantee is the issue. If you where to list out the features in a bullet point fact sheet the game seems remarkable, unlike anything else we have seen and pales every other open word we have experienced.

but what we have seen it does not.

Sure, this may be an opinion but I am not alone. A game this big, this dense and with so many "things" to do they could release a UBI/GTA style play though trailer to highlight each "thing" but they are not. Its not because they are keeping it a surprise, its because each feature is fundamentally as basic as it sounds on paper.

Space pirate - you can blow up a ship and catch their floating loot.

Oh you are talking about putting the game on a pedestal, not platform. I thought you were talking about it not deserving to be on PS4 or PC and I thought you were fucking crazy.

I stand preoccupied. I'll get the game anyway cause it's free but all the chatter points to a game with problems.

Was kinda waiting for E3 to see what the game's presence would be on Sony's conference (thin way to make decisions) but the lack of everything kinda made think the info i got is true.

Day 1, already pre ordered.

As a mostly console gamer I believe we need more games like this on the console space.

The game will finally release in August (hopefully). Has been delayed multiple times, no show at E3 this year and a lawsuit settled recently. Their website was last updated in May with the IGN preview. Things aren't looking good for them.

I feel like the game will be mediocre at best.I hope I'm wrong because the game lloks great and the potential is huge.

It has only been delayed once and it was not expected to be at E3 this year. Do we really need weekly concern trolling threads about this game?

The game looks fun and I repect it's ambition. I'm looking forward to seeing how it turns out.

I had zero interest in this game but because of Destiny's content drought it has peeked my interest.

Then I saw the gameplay from IGN and it has me extremely interested and most likely a Day 1'er.

I STILL somehow feel like I don't really know what there is to *do* in the game, despite keeping up on development, reading previews, and watching gameplay trailers and teasers.

What would be an acceptable average length of time to reach the center of the universe?

20 hours?
50 hours?
80 hours?
100 hours?
200 hours?
more?

LE pre ordered, day 1.

Easily my most wanted game this year, it's like a childhood dream come true even if only 50% of what is supposed to be in actually is working at launch.

PS: No, it's not like Minecraft.

Looking forward to:

- Having my own ship, with thousands of variations possible, and 3 classes: Scout (fast and nimble), Fighter (heavily armed), Merchant (space for cargo)
- exploring thousands upon thousands of worlds growing increasingly bizarre and dangerous as I approach the center of the Universe
- cataloging animal and vegetal species
- accumulating resources that I can trade or use for crafting my own gear
- visiting space stations and outposts, meeting alien species
- assigning myself roles for however long I feel, from merchant , pure exploration, mercenary, pirate, helping space police/ convoys
- visiting ruins and learning alien languages
- Unveiling mysteries and a narrative regarding said ruins, a malevolent force, and what lies at the center.
- taking risks and going through stargates.
- Finding an ocean planet and mapping its depths
- visiting caves, digging through the crust to access bizarre areas
Etc.

With that kind of outlook on it, I could only get excited if I accepted that I would be playing this game for years... which would be OK for those who want to do so. For someone who would only want to put a maximum of 50 hours into it, it may not be so positive.

I was one of the people saying "but what do you do?" when it was first revealed.

Now I know, and I'm saying "that's it?".

Not gonna try it til it's on sale.

It's been my top most anticipated game since its announcement, and the delays haven't really affected me at all.

Like some others who posted on here, I'm all about the exploration aspect. That's the part that hooked me. If Sean came out and said, "the job in No Mans Sky is to simply fly from planet to planet and explore their ecosystems to discover new stuff" I'd still be all in. That's the kind of game I'm eager to play.

The fact that it has all those extra layers of crafting better gear, trading, pirating, learning languages, etc is just icing on the cake for me.

So yeah, I need this game yesterday

Definitely gonna be a "wait and see". The devs still remain mostly unclear on what you actually do in the game and the whole thing reminds me just a bit too much of Spore.

I think "what do you do" is one of the dumbest questions when it pertains to a video game. Why? Because it's loaded with a predetermined perspective.

it looks great and I was excited for it at first but I've since realized that randomly generated worlds/levels in games just isn't my thing. It'd be fun for an hour or two at most.

edit: I should say procedurally generated.

This is why I'm excited for it. I love any game with a heavy exploration element.

I feel like it won't live up to the hype. The concept sounds good on paper but I think the game itself will lack depth and will get repetitive.

However, I'm hopeful that I shall be proven wrong!

I was very excited about it at first.

But now I'm in wait and see mode. I'm just not getting that same giddy feeling about it anymore like I did when it was revealed at E3 2013.

It's the sort of game I will be able to pick up and play for a bit every once in awhile for years. Seems highly relaxing and the exploration just makes me excited to see what I find.

No Man's Sky has some great potential, exploration in games is one of my favorite things to do. I've not pre-ordered this as of yet, i'm awaiting the reviews and people's opinions of the game before making a purchase.

i've been "day 1" since day 1 and nothing i've seen (or not seen) has changed my mind on that whatsoever.

i have not pre-ordered it though.

Do people really get invested enough in whether a game will be good or not to concern troll over it?

We get people coming into every NMS thread. Their negativity is exhausting. I'm not sure if they're invested in NMS so much as some people just seem to irrationally hate the game and claim things that run counter to facts.

Things are looking fine for NMS. They've been through a flood that wiped out their office and source code, a litigious corporation suing them, and death threats. On top of them trying to make a very ambitious game with a small team. But the team is very talented and experienced. They weren't at E3 because everyone is in crunch time. They'll get it done and released, and then people can see for themselves whether it's good or not instead of making concern threads like this.

That's kinda where I'm sitting right meow. I'll likely end up splitting the purchase though to make it cheaper on myself. $30 at most, $20 at least.

It'll be fun to see how it plays out in the long term. It still looks to offer a lot more than Elite: Dangerous, so I think it's gonna be at least a good game.

Even then, aren't there better examples of games like that?

Simcity comes to mind, Daikatana, etc.

I think people hear "procedural" and immediately think Spore for some reason. It's odd.

Those are OK examples but the type of chatter and hype around spore at the time leading to release was very similar to the type of chatter with No Mans Sky. Little peaks, huge promises, expansive endless playability, creatures and choices that could affect others peoples worlds, etc. They are different types of games to be sure, but the buzz about them is similar. It goes well beyond the 'procedural' tag, which, to be frank, has damned many games that could not deliver on making that part memorable.

I'm still really positive about NMS: I've been excited about it since the early reveals and the more recent info on crafting and upgrades hasn't done anything to dampen the excitement. I guess with hindsight the PR campaign hasn't been paced well, but that doesn't affect my expectations for the game.

I've got the standard edition pre-ordered from Amazon for £47.99, but am now thinking about going digital for £49.99, just so I don't need to swap discs if I want to dip in. Only problem is the digital edition comes with an extra in-game ship and a bunch of currency, but I don't want to bypass any of the early bits of the game.

Would I be right in thinking that any bonus bits of content you get with the digital pre-order would be separate PSN download codes sent via email? Would I be able to choose to download the dynamic theme, but not apply the 10,000 unit and free ship bonus?

Most likely, that is how the Uncharted 4 codes worked.

The extremely calculated way in which they've shown just want they want to and not a pixel more, and the impressive question dodging by Sean Murray, has me wary. I'm very curious to see how it turns out; I'm in on day two if it's good.
