Do you ever get the ability to rename one of your custom planets? My initial planet name got reverted somehow and I can't change it anymore.

Anyone else getting a little dizziness/motion sickness when playing/after playing? Wasn't a problem for me the first few days but now it is. I don;t think any other games are doing it either. An effect of the FOV maybe? I don't usually notice a bad FOV, but this one did seem a bit odd.

I suffer from vertigo but only have issues while flying in space. I can't do rolls and the fights in space are dreadful for me. I have to squint/shut my eyes whenever I'm in a battle, otherwise I get dizzy, lol.

I just played a good 4-5 hours straight, though. Wonder if the dizziness will trigger a bit later. Sometimes long game play stints do that.

No door? That's new to me. Was it a door you hate to shoot open? Or could you just not find one? That's weird.
I've came across many that have no door or shootable door too. It's like it's just generated a series of the sections with pipes coming out instead of a door.

lol, over a half hour away. I guess I should call it to a landing pad but I have no real desire to.

Nothing messes with me here, even the sentinels are super chill. A couple scans away 100%ing this planet and it's been serene.

Anyone know how to activate the giant monolith portals? I came across one for the first time and don't know how to operate it.

No idea yet. But it would be interesting if these "portals" were a way for plays to jump into each others... dimensions?

So starting planet is random right? I heard a lot of people saying they got hostile starting planets. Not mine, nice and temperate and abundant in resources:
Completely random. Mine in the post above is my starter, also quite nice but I suffered two very unpleasant starters on PS4.

Nice pics, I like the one in the cave that's like PLUTONIUM!!!!11

Just put 4 hours into it. Time flew by. It's weird though, it's not like the game is giving me some thrilling experiences and oh so fun. But it's more of a chill fun. I'm enjoying exploring, taking my time looking for points of interest. Will play more tomorrow, too tired now to keep going. Don't feel a rush to go towards the goal since the point is just exploring. I'll get there eventually. Kinda at a loss on how to progress. Made my first jump after looking around in the first couple of planets but now I don't have the resource needed to do another jump. Antimatter I think is what I'm missing.

I've put about an hour and a half into No Man's Sky and it's exactly, to the point, what I expected from sensibly digesting all the pre-launch media and previews.

On one hand I don't feel it's a very good game, at least for my taste. It's very repetitive, follows a shallow gameplay cycle, and is definitely too big for its own booths. On the other hand I really admire the technology within and the general ambience and mood it conveys, which is something that on this 3D scale hasn't been done before.

So I'm left in this weird middleground. I think there's a lot of potential in the technology and concept that today is partially hindered by Hello Games being a tiny team, and partially technology itself. I'm not sure how feasible an even more complex, game system rich No Man's Sky under the same huge galaxy+ size template would be with today's CPU and RAM bottlenecks. There's definitely a place for a game that's No Man's Sky with even deeper, richer game systems, maybe in the future. I also like a lot of the concepts put into the game as-is; the language stuff is super neat, mining is fine, faux-RPG inventory and gear, etc. But it's still all follow the same relatively shallow gameplay loop.

It just never really presents itself as anything other than this though. Like it's 100% built on how invested you, the player, will subjectively be in this galaxy spanning resource acquisition adventure. The adventure is just you. And either the smoke and mirrors and game systems don't work and you don't care and it's all a crock of Molyneux shit. Or you're caught up in the scope and travel and legitimately (if potentially superficial) endlessness of everything and find peace and wonder with that. Or maybe you fall somewhere in between.

And I think me having quelled huge expectations, that's what the game is for me; an in between. I know I'm going to get bored, just like I get bored with Minecraft and Destiny, because I don't really like these gameplay systems very much. I don't like the feedback loop of resource gathering and upgrading. But at the same time I'm fascinated by the technology and its implementation, mainly for the fact it exists right now and there's potential for it to grow in the future. I can fly between planets and moons in real time and land on the surface and it's all fucking huge with gorgeous vistas and even though it's nothingness and pointless I still love the fact this can be done and I haven't done it before.

I'm basically a tourist in a technology demo I really like, and a game I don't. And I'm kinda okay with that.

Damn, you wrote my exact thoughts better than I've been able to. 100% agreed.

Yeah same here, but it was an underwater facility so swimming around it like 5 times to confirm there was no door was really annoying lol

So I just arrived at the first
Atlas interference. I accepted the Atlas path before, but now I'm in this gigantic space structure and I want to refuse, but then again I don't even know if I'll come across the other paths in my journey or not. Can I tentatively accept, but change my path later? Or am I locking myself in?

Been there man. Annoying too cause swimming sucks so much, need a faster way to traverse water. As it is right now when I see a marker 5 minutes from land I think do I really think 10 mins there and back is worth my time?

You can always do whatever you want at any time. There's no real lock in. If you just start heading around randomly though it can be hard to find your way back to specific things later.

Nicely put. This is 100% me, although when something scripted happens, I'm really engaged by it because it feels so few and far between. I've put like 10 hours in 2-3 days which is a lot for me.

Going forward, this game exists so others can build on it and that is really exciting. Imagine a team of 100 making a NMS2.

I've played 3 or 4 hours and still haven't left my starting planet. Managed to track down my starting location thanks to an outpost so I've started along the Atlas path. I found a landing platform with several huge Emeril deposits right next it. I mined it all to get to 1.2 million units. Got an upgraded multi-tool from a Vy-keen alien then bought a ship from another one. Gonna try to 100% this planet before I leave. Still need 2 more species.

What is the best way to get 100% on a planet? I fly around looking for animals and can't find jack squat. I'm running out of cash and see that a complete scam nets $200k.

Just 100%ed my first planet, my starter on PC, which I have named Amethys because the purple grass blanketing it reminds me of the gemstone. It has yellow days, red nights and pink sunsets.

Time to hit the sky. I didn't expect to feel this way, but I should like to return here one day. I hope that becomes possible. I wandered for hours, and it filled me with determination.

In my game, 37 slot ships are going for 19.6 million. I've only got 7.7M, but making about a mil/hour thanks to Venemous Sacks and Vortex Cubes.

I currently have a 14 slot weapon. Found a 16 slot one but decided not to upgrade. The one I have has +1, +2 and +3 mining gathering, while the 16 slot one had none of them (mostly combat upgrades) and I don't have the plans for any of those upgrades.

If you're missing creatures, they're most likely in the sky or underground. If they are birds/flying, they're tough to scan. Get a height advantage and use L3 to zoom while using your L2 visor.
They're kind of adorable

I have a question for some people in here:

1) Has anyone come across gas giants? Or Ringed Planets?

2) Does anyone feel the frequency of hitting planets with lush life and vegetation is -FAR- too common, with the rate of dead/hostile moons and planets being too rare? I know, real life it's like, millions of dead planets per one that has like...bacteria on it. But it seems the ratio should be flip-floped in the game. Like 7 dead / insanely hostile planets for every 3 lush ones. It would also make exploration that much more rewarding when you do finally come across a living planet with plant and animal life.

I don't know, just looking for feedback. Maybe I've been getting unlucky.

Because right now, I haven't yet come across a planet that looks as cool as Saturn, which you know -- is a planet in our goddamn solar system.

You know...this guy right here: (taken from Voyager)

damn... this on PC? resisting double dip now lol

It's got like a low 40 percent rating on steam spy, and it seems a lot of people are refunding it. I'd wait to get a better picture on how that pans out.

Ship help please!

Can someone post a pic of an explorer type ship. Are they the longer ones that look like space pontoons? lol

I'm trying to find the best ship for solar system/galaxy hopping. Also I'm still only seeing at best 26 slot ships max. Will I start seeing way better ships regardless of my ship as I keep going towards the center of the galaxy?

Alright so ive put in about 5 hours on the PC version. This game is damn good.

I just need to get some fuel for my hyper drive and I think I can head to the next system.

I bought a ship off someone for 300k. It was an 18 slot ship. It took me awhile to decide, but really, 300k wasnt hard to get. So ill take those 3 extra slots.

I had to take a break for a second though. I dont want to burn myself out.
