I know, that was the issue that I was having. As I said, the issue was that it was only registering as 1.30 TB prior to me reformatting it. After reformatting the SSHD it did then show as the expected 1.76 TB, which was 500 GB larger than it was registering as initially.
It's been a bit of a pain having to download stuff again but I'm just relieved that I was able to remedy the issue so I don't really mind.

My 500gb ssd was 408 after the initial format in the pro, the o/s must eat a ton for the video recording features

Hope that amazon will get some Firecudas back in stock soon, only thing I did with my Pro yesterday was taking off the hdd bay cover, now its boxed again and waiting...

Does someone have a 256Gb drive and check how much does show after formatting and installing the OS?
I plan to buy a PS4 Pro and a 256Gb SSD just for a few exclusives and want to know if that would be enough.
Not planing to store videos, photos, anything else, just Uncharted 4, Bloodborne, The Last Guardian and such.

This is the process I did yesterday to transfer and swap HDDs between my launch PS4 (with SSHD installed) and PS4Pro.

I think so, but it doesn't make a difference. A 5400rpm HDD is not fast enough to use SATA2 at max speed let alone SATA3
You're going to regret that decision soon enough.
Because you'll be juggling around games and deleting them constantly with that kind of storage space. Remember the OS takes up a huge chunk.

That's why I'm asking.
If every game is going to take 50 gigs, maybe I will go with 512Gb, but that's enough. I don't want to spend more than needed for playing those exclusives.
Anyone knows how much free space a Crucial MX300 275Gb ends up with?
as hoo-doo says, you will regret getting smaller - if you can stretch to a 500gb please do so to save yourself some hassle
looking at calculators and comments above a 275gb will leave you with ~180GB - enough for 3 games at most before juggling begins

So does mine. But the iFixit teardown has HGST instead, so probably just a few suppliers
I don't think Pro will fully utilise any SSD so therefore I believe any SSD will likely show good improvements.

I found one of these for $220. That seemed to be the best value for a well-reviewed (almost) 1TB SSD that I could find. Installed it in my Pro last night and it works great, although I barely had time to play around with it much.

Really the only areas where any difference may be noticeable between SSDs is if you are writing/saving extremely large files or or RAW photo-editing. The premium models do have an edge there. Which doesn't apply to the Pro. Otherwise, hardly any difference.

Maybe not fully, but look at all the evidence in this thread.
A lot of shorter loading times with an SSD.
I bet it even helps with texture streaming in some games.
He means that just because the Samsung SSD is better in real world, that it likely matches performance the other SSDs on PS4 since the it can't use any SSD to it's max potential.

There is only one 2TB Hybrid drive on the market at 2.5", and it's the Seagate Firecuda 2TB. (They have a 1TB model that is obviously easier to find right now.)

How much data is kept via back up/restore? Will it install both my uk and us profiles and install the games via this method?
If I used the external HD from my Xbox One S to do the back up, will this screw anything up? Would it wipe or alter my Xbox info?
May as well stick with my 1tb sshd instead of waiting another couple of weeks for the 2tb.

The difference is going to depend on the game....the longer the loading the time the bigger the difference. You can check videos of sata 2 comparisons and many times the sshd drive offers a decent improvement. I'm expecting this to be even more pronounced with sata 3. So yes I'm expecting a significant improvement. We will have to wait for some tests to come out, PS4 Pro is just out in the wild now.
I came into this thread for this reason. What's interesting is that on my base PS4 with its stock HDD I always was one of the first ones to load into the game when the map changed. Now on PS4 Pro I'm loading much slower. This is a real disadvantage since loading quickly is the only way you're getting a vehicle at the start of the match.
I haven't had a chance to try it yet but I'm going to try going into safe mode and doing the rebuild database option. I read somewhere that doing the equivalent of that on Xbox helped with loading times. For the record, I setup my PS4 Pro by copying everything from my old PS4 over Ethernet.

I think you can only back up one profile at a time, but you can probably back up each profile separately to the same external drive. Worth a try.
In my experience it's a complete backup from the profile name to all of the installs, screen grabs, everything.
It shouldn't Touch your Xbox info since PS4 puts things in a very specific folder. But the drive has to be FAT or exFAT, no NTFS allowed.

We FINALLY (kinda) have a video that shows the speed difference using a FireCuda, but it's using a standard PS4, not the Pro, and it's not in English, BUT they do should side by side videos of the load times. Even still, there's a HUGE difference in boot times. The game download test was negligible, but I think the wrong game was used. They should have used an open world game.
Hopefully we'll get a proper video with a Pro.

Crucial Mx300 is what I have in the PRO. The 750GB model.
Wanna share my experience and learnings of migrating from a 2TB PS4 to PS PRO.
What a journey!
Result was that now I have the 2TB HDD on PRO with everything it is EXACTLY like it was on OG PS4. Did half of it lst night and the rest today, while working from home.
- Turn on PS4, connected to PSN with my main account via Wi-Fi
- Set up PS4 PRO, connected to PSN using my account via Wi-Fi (logs you out of PSN on orginal PS4)
- Connected both via ethernet using a CAT 5a cable
- Used the "Transfer Data to Another PS4" function, selected to move saved data, captures, themes and settings.
- Selected to transfer only game install/downloads I'll be actually using within the next month or so. I cut down to transfer only 430 something GB from total of 1.7 TB.
- Transfer lasted about 90-120 minutes (Walk the dog, fixed dinner, came back about 90-120min later it was done)
- Replaced PRO 1TB HDD by OG PS4 2TB and went through set up on PRO
- Formatted original 500GB that came with OG PS4 (ExFAT, MBR. If you don't do MBR is doesn't work with PS4).
- Replaced 2TB HDD that was on PRO by 1TB originally came with PRO
- Using the backup function via USB, backed up the 470 something GB I had on PRO 1TB disk onto old 500GB HDD
- Replaced PRO 1TB by the 2TB and recovered the back up that was on 500GB.
- installed 500GB on OG PS4, went through set up, OG PS4 is ready to be sold and help paying for the PRO charge
What a journey!
Result was that now I have the 2TB HDD on PRO with everything it is EXACTLY like it was on OG PS4. Did half of it lst night and the rest today, while working from home.

People are buying $1K TVs for the pro, hell maybe someone is buying a new sofa, chances are it will also be more expensive than the console.
It's all about how it works together for that person, it's not like people don't buy SSDs and monitors that are more expensive than their GPUs.

Yah I mean, no judgement from me, I definitely don't let money get in the way of making less than prudent purchases, but it still seems kind of wacky to buy a $620 SSD for a $400 console
Either way, would love to see speed comparisons/hear impressions compared to the stock drive. My FireCuda 1TB arrives today, I'll be testing that out.
Installing mine now. 675GB / 3 hours... not too bad.
Not too happy amazon shipped it in a bubble envelope, but everything seems fine.
It is a bit ridiculous, but I'll probably eventual migrate it to PS5 or network storage down the line. I don't always have to use it in the Pro.
