Marvel Vs. Capcom: Infinite Characters and Stages Roster Discussion Thread

You know what bugs me the most?

The hell happened to the communication between fans and Capcom? Feels like Capcom is getting absolutely zero feedback on the game. The only thing they get is from the pros who are Combofiend's friends but these dudes are not going to be looking out for the interests of the casuals.

Viscant is right, stuff like Chun Li's face matters very little to your average pro player but it's a damn near deal breaker for casuals and it reflects poorly on the game when Esports are involved. You put thing he game up in front of thousands on TV and they see those faces, who the hell is going to want to buy that game?

Capcom's tone deaf communication with their fanbase is frightening. That actually scares me the most about the game, that they actually don't even know exactly why people are complaining or why this game has such a toxic word of mouth lately. They didn't have a clue with SFV either and it's being reflected in Marvel Infinite with them shoving that awful story mode down our throats.
Tekken 7 had the awful story mode and botched up everything else from Arcade mode to Broken online yet people were ecstatic about it.

I plan to play this with a fight pad, something im not used too... I mean, we talking about a guy whose very fine with using an analog stick over d-pad. So I'm kinda low key happy the dp motions arent in. Going to make this transition a lot smoother.

So I finally tried out the Story demo. Graphics are still hideous. How is it that a 6 year old game on last gen hardware looks better than this? Unacceptable. Story is whatever. Some of the voices got major downgrades, like Rocket Raccoon and Dr. Strange. They better get Josh Keaton back for Spider-Man.

At least the gameplay still looks like it's a lot of fun but too bad I can't really try for myself. The enemies die way too quick in the demo for me to really experiment or try anything. And why did they have to change controls from MVC3? I thought the controls there were absolutely perfect. Maybe I just have to get used to it.

On top of all that, the leaked roster is trash but I'm hoping, by some miracle, that the final base roster at launch will be bigger.

Marvel vs Capcom is my favorite video game franchise of all time. I must have 1000 hours total put into MVC3, UMVC3 and the Xbox One UMVC3 combined and it pains me to say how much Capcom is disappointing with this sequel so far.

They seem to be pushing story mode hard so I imagine they think that's the sole problem SFV had.

the fact they gave us the story demo instead of the vs demo clearly shows they are out of touch.

"but Rhaknar, you never get access to those E3 demos"

thats true, but A) they have these 2 demos, and they gave us the story one where you cant analyse the game properly, we wouldnt get the story demo before either, andmore importantly B) clearly the word of mouth around the game is toxic and that VS demo would do wonders to maybe help with that.

Let me defend the story demo choice. The story demo prevents us (or at least limits us) from hitting the lab and breaking the game before it's released. Half the fun of Mahvel is the training room so if they released that with half the roster we'd already be mostly bored of the game before it's released

That's a big problem I have, honestly. I like MvC2 when played with friends who are equally as bad as me, but I could never get into that game with its button scheme. The way TvC and MvC3 did it with Light Attack, Medium Attack, and Heavy Attack, no separate punches and kicks, was perfect and a much better way to make it accessible to newbies and casual players.

They don't have to give us half the roster. They could give us like, 4 or 8.

Sorry but I guess I'm on the opposite end of the spectrum. The game looks like a mobile game. Maybe saying words like "trash" and "garbage" is harsh, but let's not kid anyone here... The game looks bad. So Aris sound quite valid to me. I can have this opinion yet still think the game is fun and will get it. You guys are showing some decent stills and claiming the game isn't ugly. Just like people showing Chun li face and saying the game is trash. The truth is in the middle and the middle is mediocre at best.

Have you played it? Somehow it looks a lot better in person on a PS4. I was playing it earlier today then I look at the screenshots/videos again and it looks like a mobile game...but that's not how it looks and feels when you play it.

Thinking back, I'm pretty sure there was some backlash changing from the MVC2 control scheme (which MVCI largely shares) to MVC3's...

Just played the demo, loved it - convinced me to get the game day 1. I'm not sure what the hate is about. It just seems like people need to be upset about something all the time now.

I'm sorry but Infinite is FAR graphically superior than 3 especially from a technical perspective. Go boot up 3 and look at it real hard. It's not nearly as good as you remember especially the Lightning and fire effects which are just boring solid yellow and red. The backgrounds and cutscenes especially are Ambrosia compared to 3's stale pretzels

It's amazing to me that they released the demo the way they did. Like I understand completely the realities of game development and budgets and doing what you can with what you have.

But you don't turn around and highlight your weakest areas by having your demo consist of terrible cutscenes interspersed with 15 second fights. I have no interest in going through this a second time to explore the gameplay because the cutscenes are so bad and the matches are going to end after two combos anyway. How unaware of your own reality do you have to be to put this out into the world and think it helps anything?

Been playing it all day actually, my thoughts still remain.

So you can trade your infinity storm for a level 3 by pressing the button combo again during the storm? Funky. Meter management is gonna be interesting.

Can also fake super jumps by doing the motion then holding down again. Odd.

There was, I remember it. Having TvC as my first "vs. Capcom" game made me feel kinda alienated when I was one of the few actually excited for MvC3's control scheme. Kinda wish Niitsuma was working on this game. Lol. I don't like MvC2's control scheme at all.

Wait people didn't like the cutscenes?!? WHY? It played out like a cheesy 2000's anime which is exactly what it should be. If you're expecting Witcher 3 levels of story telling from a story where the main villain is named Ultron Sigma then I don't know what to tell you.

It was nothing but cheesy one liners and fan service and I love it. I mean FFS it opened with
X using Captain Americas shield!!!
How is that not the best thing you've ever seen?

Wait what? Does it give you 3 bars or cancel the storm into a level 3?

I got to play the demo again today.

I think the game is mostly fine from a playability/game play stand point. The issues I have are easily fixable if Capcom chosen to fix them, there is no egregious fault with the game play like Marvel 3 had with TACs which were just a fundamentally bad idea. Game also does not look as bad in person and the changes they could make would improve the game's aesthetics a lot. Generally speaking I think this game is very open ended and has a high skill ceiling because of it. It's going to take a lot of adjustments that's for sure but no where near the level of Marvel 2 to 3.

Probably going to make a major write up soon, within the next couple of days. It would mostly be in the form of constructive criticism so that if someone at Capcom is listening in they can maybe get something out of it rather than a giant rant about the game on how "ass" it is. These claims of how a game is garbage/ass helps no one if you don't explain why which is one of the failings of the FGC in general IMO. Everything is either "ass" or "hype".

they put out a story demo because a vs demo would satisfy some people longterm to not buy it. Any one who hates the story demo probably were in wait for a sale mode in the first place.

Are you at E3? As a journalist or public member?

Giga, did you post on Capcom Unity back in the day. I seem to remember that name and a TVC Roll avatar.

That place is...a ghost-town now.
Of course it's a ghost town, there are hardly any Capcom moderators doing work there or any PR folks interacting with their fans. For how awful the Blizzard fanbase can be, the Blizzard PR and mods still try to interact and in for their playerbase.

The communication at Capcom has spiraled all the way down.

Hell no, I am talking about the story mode demo like a pleb lol!

Completely disagree. I have the Xbox One port of UMVC3. I last played it like 2 months ago. I remember how it looks and for the most part, UMVC3 is FAR more visually appealing game than Infinite. I'm sure I'm not the only one who thinks this, you see complaints about Infinite's graphics everywhere.

FChamp wins the first ever Marvel Infinite pro match!

Man Dr Strange's animations look so nice with all the colors and effects.

This the first pro vs. pro match?

Lol the Time Stone is so nutty, I love it.

Man, I feel this game needs a lot more HSD.

Yeah exactly. It's so bizarre, Capcom goes on and on about making this game easier to play and more accessible, yet they switched to a more complicated control scheme.

The jobber bots in the story demo have next to zero hp. Wasn't a very good indicator of damage. (if thats what you were going by)

Aye, I was still trying to guess how much more a normal character would have judging from the damage they did to you, but it was hard to tell. This is much better.

Carol looks good, I'll main her when I decide to get the game lol

The gameplay is fine, I'll try to get used to the presentation and art style.

Mmm...not really feeling the demo tbh. The story wasn't as appealing as I hoped it would be, but it was just a slice of the whole thing. But for what it was, I thought it was pretty bad. But who plays fighting games for story, right?

Controls feel okay I guess. The graphics are vibrant, although coming from a game like Injustice 2, I wasn't impressed. Sure you could argue that the art styles are different but the impression I had was MvC:Infinite had less details on the characters? Also, I'm frequently being distracted by the melding between the background and the characters. Rocket's VA made me cringe quite a few times. But I suppose they're going for the cheesy comicbook tone as a whole.

I mean we got dropped into the middle of the story I'm not sure how you expected to get invested in it.

is Chun OTGing by herself at the end there in the second one?

Had a chance to check it out at E3 and it's a lot of fun. I feel like Capcom either should have released a vs demo with like 2 characters or none at all: the story mode demo is kind of doing the game a disservice. It looks great aside from the faces to be honest but my bigggest beef is the obsession Capcom has with turning Chun-Li's lightning legs into a half circle motion: didn't they learn their lesson with SFV having to patch the rapid press back in?

It wasn't even cheesy. I could get behind cheesy. It was drab and lifeless, like a promotional comic book you'd get free in a kids meal at Wendy's.

This game's lab is going to be so hype. This is why I'm excited for this game

Yup. So stupid for them to release a story demo. So effectively their first public released demo is showcasing it's weakest element (the story).

They have a full on vs mode and character select on the E3 show floor.

Releasing a public demo and letting people break it down is the best way to improve on it before release. Like a diet-arcade version.

Time Stone seems like an early Winner.
Might be too OP if it could, but what I don't like about the Time Surge is that you can't do it in the opposite direction of the opponent, you always dash into it.

I think Time Storm will be a huge asset even into the late game if the damage for infinites checks out. It's just reliable damage that you can shut your brain off for after confirm.

Honestly that whole situation with Capcom USA and Capcom JP having a passive aggressive back and forth *publicly* wrt SFV DLC kind of tells the whole story. There must be a huge rift between the two companies, and the upper management probably cares very little.

Capcom kind of feels like it could go out of business any day now.
