That Ghost thing was awful. Another open world game full of collectibles.
Speak for yourself, can't hardly wait to play with Japanese audio and that delicious black and white filter.

The water in the Epic demo felt like - hurry up and run through this before people notice it is from Skyrim. That was one area where maybe I just noticed it out of the corner of my eye.
The unreal 5.0-PS5 tech demo is totally not possible on:
-PC AMD RDNA 2 and upcoming RDNA 3
-NVIDIA Ampere and Hopper
-Intel Xe GPU line
-PCIE 5.0 SSD Drives
Nope not at all. Nope nope nope.

They are not showing hundreds of billions of polygons. Pure marketing speak by epic. There was some leak claiming that Horizon 2 will show billions of polygons on screen and many of us called it bullshit. It turned out that the 100s of billions of polygons are true.![]()
It looks like you're too ignorant to understand what this means for every gamedev studio out there. They are not showing hundreds of billions of polygons. Pure marketing speak by epic.

I guess I better return my computer science degree. I bow before your awesomeness. It looks like you're too ignorant to understand what this means for every gamedev studio out there.
I believe the GDC part was confirmed by Eurogamer. This would sound like an NDA breach to me.
Do we have verified proof this person is who he says he is?
"secret info or something" … hmmm. Funny phrase for a dev to say. I am definitely open for confirmation.
How much ram do you think it takes to store hundreds of billions of vertices. An fp32 is 4 bytes. So for a hundred billion vertices that would be 400 billion bytes. That does not even mean include the data for the actual polygons. That’s approximately 400 GB for just vertices. How much ram do these machines have?Isn't that just a matter of perception? If you zoom in the original detail is preserved. So while technically it's true what you say, it's also true that it doesn't really matter because you don't notice and when you put it to the test by zooming the detail is there.
It's a case of you knowing it isn't but your eyes not being able to tell the difference.
Did we really need to be told this? How could anyone expect that part to be actual gameplay? It's still real-time though, and that counts for something. But it's easier to get that kind of fidelity while on rails, so to speak.
But they will both know more than a person watching in the stands or reading about the race from a newspaper.Actually, there are at least two things in dispute.
Sweeney is the one representing the new engine. Cerny is representing the hardware. If I make a car and you win a race with it, it would be stupid to say that both of us know more about driving than anyone else. You are the one that won the race, not me. You know about racing, I know about making cars. Those are two completely different things.
Which brings me to the second point. Sweeney nor Cerny don't do anything by themselves. They lead teams that do all the work. The input from their teams is a lot more valuable than you give them credit for. These guys are the faces.
Well you just made a proof, that games will not use assets with that fidelity, They would never fit into PS5 SSD.How much ram do you think it takes to store hundreds of billions of vertices. No thanks, i'm not like everyone here, i like both Sony and Microsoft, but you can't close your eyes on it. I never saw someone here joke about the PS5. I'm pretty sure that if the XSX was from Sony and the PS5 from MS, everyone would laugh of the SSD marketing from Microsoft. It's just weird to see that people defend a brand while for them we're just people who give them money.
Are you really saying you are visiting NeoGAF… and you never saw someone mocking “the power of the SSD”? Man. Tell me what threads do you visit. I want to be there too.No thanks, i'm not like everyone here, i like both Sony and Microsoft, but you can't close your eyes on it. I never saw someone here joke about the PS5. Yes when he talks about scalability he doesn't specifically say "this demo."
But you really think Epic chose a demo for their engine they boasted is highly scalable that literally would only ever work on PS5?
His comment about "at any scale" is just nonsense hype at face value. Why wouldn't you be able to do that demo at a lower scale on different hardware exactly?
The main takeaway from the Unreal Demo is that PS5 is being treated as the lead platform for Unreal games.
Didn't MS tweet out all the studios that will be using UE5 right after the demo? I don't think UE5 claimed a lead platform yesterday, it is open to all the next gen platforms/pc

wrap it up boys turns out the big breakthrough epic just demonstrated? they just made it up, they didnt account for neogaf user corndog calling them outHow much ram do you think it takes to store hundreds of billions of vertices. Nope, Phil said some of their studios are using Unreal Engine, not UE5.
I think it's safe to assume every engine is going to be catering to the PS5 considering how dominant PS4 sales were. The main takeaway from the Unreal Demo is that PS5 is being treated as the lead platform for Unreal games.
Many were questioning if devs would take advantage of Sonys unique hardware and now we know at least one major platform outside of Sonys own is.

They've specifically built it to be heavily scalable... the technology has benefits on PS5, but it's not going to be a "port" on other systems. They will get it though but it looks like it’d be a port treatment since it’s very specific to PS5 architecture.

Man, I've been paying close attention to you at all time, you are a guru! Give me more of that AMD infinity fabric and potential PS5 Pro stacked APU please

What’s very specific to ps5 architecture? They will get it though but it looks like it’d be a port treatment since it’s very specific to PS5 architecture.
You need more green in your profile picture my impartial friend.Y'all like to hate Microsoft
Prove me wrong then. Actually explain to me why you would even need billions of polygons when you are only displaying 3.7 million pixels? I thought it was one pixel per polygon.wrap it up boys turns out the big breakthrough epic just demonstrated? they just made it up, they didnt account for neogaf user corndog calling them out

Given the unique architecture of the PS5 and the demo provided it’d make sense that they build with PS5 in mind given that’s what the engine was designed for and port down to XSX with allowing for framerate and resolution to upscale on it.
Very true, but that isn't Epic's angle with the demo, they clearly want master race PC hardware to be forced down the PS5 IO complex route(with world beating SSD performance) to move the old and tired PC forward. Epic sort of did the same with the PS3, because multi-core and GPU compute weren't happening at the rate they wanted. PS3 primarily - but even the 360 using unreal 3 - made a massive influence on PC hardware back then. The GoT gameplay looked really good but I need to see a non-YT compressed version because while the colors pop and foliage looked nice and dense, some of the textures seemed a bit muddy. Maybe remedied if it gets a PS5 version or PS5 patch, or whatever?

they talk about billions of polygons in a single scene, not on screen. Only about 1 billion tris of raw geometry per frame, which the engine simplifies down according to the number of tris per pixel. This cuts them down to only about 20 million triangles on every frame, with more being streamed in and out of memory as needed. This is all explained in the first 3 minutes of the demoProve me wrong then. Actually explain to me why you would even need billions of polygons when you are only displaying 3.7 million pixels? I thought it was one pixel per polygon.

I swear some of you...
UE5 is available for all platforms. At the end of the day it is designed to scale and find a way to work everywhere. Why would they build their engine to around the one thing that doesn't exist on any of the other platforms (5.5gb SSD). That doesn't scale. This engine will work with HDDs. Resolution can scale, streaming will not.
The engine will remain a jack of all trades because that is how they make money. They won't deign around a specific architecture and especially not reliant on SSD speeds for XSX and PS5 that still really don't exist in significant numbers on PC.
Sony made a deal with Epic to get advertising rights and promotion from Epic on the release of UE5 (that is why Tim said they have a special relationship). Epic did not design UE5 around PS5's architecture. They may help Sony use it, but they did not design it with that in mind. If they did they effectively cut themself off from most the market.
Very coordinated.Do some of you really think Epic is going to only code UE5 to take advantage of PS5 features and not XSX.
Like really...
Unreal engine... One of the most used engines in the industry...
You are playing yourself if you think this.
Outside the US 1.000 millions is not a billion. That could explain it.I looked at this article to get a little more info for the disbelieving. They talk about meshes having hundred of “millions” of polygons not billions. That makes a lot more sense by a factor of a 1000.

If they said for the entire demo then certainly. In that case I would certainly agree. And my memory is definitely not what it used to be.The demo showed hundreds of duplicates which in the end amounted to billions of vertices having been rendered through the course of the demo. I don’t know if your memory our my memory is failing, but I’m pretty sure that’s what they said.
First impressions are what counts. Xbox got the wind taken out of them, and Sony just went for the uppercut.Regardless of who has the "better graphics", today was a huge PR win for SONY. It's on the front page of The Verge and media outlets are all stating that it is how PS5 games are going to look. Casuals are going to be mighty impressed that this is what PS5 is capable of and very few would even know what the XBSX is at this point.
Don’t know about y’all but I’m binging Kitano and Kurosawa tonight.
