I love how people think reviews being 10/10 is a perfect game score. That's not how reviews work and so everyone who has a problem with TLOU2 getting these scores obviously do not understand review scores.

It's a known fact in the industry that the score is weighted to how much the reviewer enjoyed the game, a 10/10 does not mean the game is perfect, that is just how you perceive the game is rated and that is wrong!

Take Polygon's TLOU2 review for example, that review was pretty much negative and that review does not even talk about the game, you know, game design, playability, sound, graphics etc. The whole review was based on how the reviewer emotionally felt about the game. But because that review was not positive, I'm sure this review must be completely true and how everyone will feel about the game?

Reviewers scores are not there to please the studios or developers, it is purely their opinion on how much they enjoyed the game. People need to stop worrying about scores and play the game for themselves. I think there are too many insecure people here seeking validation for their own opinions and thoughts just so they can feel good about themselves.

If this were true there would be waaaay more games that score below a 7. When was the last game you saw that averaged in the 3s or 4s? Never? That doesn't make any sense if game reviewing wasn't "corrupt" in some way because there are a lot of bad games out there.

Look at the range of scores movies get on Rotten Tomatoes. The games industry sees nothing like that. There has to be a reason for it.

So she kills hundreds of people without hesitation and decides to let the one that actually matters go. Look at how casually she just knifes people in the throat in other parts of the game.

The whole thing is beyond stupidly conceived and executed.
It's so weird....Ellie kills hundreds...even a pregnant woman, and in the end she grows a conscience out of nowhere.

The entire scene between Ellie and Abby is so....i don't know how to explain, i guess dramatic for shock purpose?
Yeaaaaaah, it is pretty disappointing to see her character going through an entire story and campaign pent on rage and revenge. Only to let the one that matters the absolute most in the end get away. I understand there's supposed to be some incredible weight to it, but it just feels ridiculous. Sure, I haven't played the entire game so maybe that's why it's missing the mark so hard. But, I dunno, experiencing it or not, it still seems ridiculous to me. I get all the comparisons I read now.

Also lol at the reactions to what we know now is the actual ending. So many people were like, "There's no way that's the real ending." Welp, lmao.

Well ok, yes there may be a few cases of corruption out there but I don't believe that all these high scores are some conspiracy like 9/11. It's just not like that. I'm not defending TLOU2 but I find it hard to believe that every single one of these 10/10's are not legitimate, they contain a very wide range of reviewers. ND has a good track record and I think despite the story being bad or good, people have blown this way out proportion. The game as in gameplay itself is probably very decent at worse case scenario.

If people base their opinion on a few out of context leaks which make up a few minutes out of a 25+ hour game and biased reviews and opinions from the internet then I feel sorry for them. Games will always be subjective and you should always judge for yourself. I hate SJW shit and forced agendas but I will judge for myself. People judging games without seeing it or playing it are the worst type of gamers there are.

Im now ready for a real discussion with people that have actually played the game. The amount of hate on this game from people that haven't played it is just weird.... 96 metacritic..... The lengths people are reaching to hate this game is hilarious. I hope they sell millions.

A 96 metacritic doesn’t mean much considering the poor state of reviewers/critics.

Edit: though it’s excellent for marketing to stamp all over ads and the box art.

Its super convent that for this game all of sudden you can't trust metacritic. Again 96 over 91 reviews...bro please. I'm ready to discuss this game with people that have played it. I will be one those people in less than 24 hrs.

IGN Japan gave it a 7/10

From the comment section:

Main negative points are:
- It destructures the story of the first title, which might make fans upset.
- Ellie has not the same appeal as playing as Joel.
- Ellie's revenge actions are naive and unreasonable.
- Only provides the point of view as the "victim", but fails to show the point of view as the "perpetrator".
- No development between the characters relationships, for example Ellie and Dina's relationship are already stablished in the beginning of the game and doesn't progress anymore than that.
- Abby is purposely made to look like a bad character in the first half of the game. You progress the game without knowing the characters motives until the end which is when the game show the characters real thoughts. Reviewer said it would be better to show the motives in the beginning of the game instead like in the first game showing Joel's daughter dying.
- Despite the gameplay efforts, the AI enemies don't feel human even if they have names.
- Gameplay mechanics feel a bit outdated for an action adventure game. - Many problems with the story and characters, making this game far from the masterpiece the first one was.

Then its also equally hilarious to read you attacking the "haters" of this game despite you not yet playing it.
Its not, it really isn't. If you told me a critically acclaimed movie sucked because you read the synopsis .....your opinion would mean 0 to me.

Technically Part 2 is probably superior.

But story wise, its probably inferior and that's bad for the TLoU sequel because the main draw of the original was the story and characters.

Its like how Last Jedi had very nice visual presentation but absolutely garbage with the story and character.

You don’t know me. I haven’t looked to Metacritic for guidance in a very long time, so when people hold it up as proof of quality, I think it’s funny.

I don't think it's a "conspiracy." Someone would have said something by now. I just think the game review industry is kinda stupid. It's just the culture of how it works. 🤷‍♂️

There is some metric to everything, I don't think there are any trash games sitting at 96 on metacretic especially with 91 reviews. All its saying is mojortiy reviewers like it and you probably will like it too. Majority of reviewers say LG Oleds are great, I read the reviews, saw it in store, bought one. It works form me, there are issues with oled, for the most part its fine. I been in this thread from the beginning its gone from SJW agenda, sales are bad, its gonna score low, to let me cherry pick the worst review to prove why this game is horrible. The funny thing is the worst review of this isn't really that bad. Its still a good just not for that reviewer. Its interesting thats all. I haven't seen a game treated like this.

Review aggregate sites are just that. They just recap reviews.

As for reviews themselves getting universally good or bad scores, it's directional in nature and that assumes the gamer and reviewer don't have a already set bias.

For example, I don't care how good Kingdom Hearts games get rated. I'm not playing it and I know I'll hate it. I have no interest playing an RPG as Donald Duck. But then there are some people who deem more violence the better and LoU fits the bill. So does MK and Manhunt.

Someone brought this up earlier about video game review scores and yes there is a major problem. When 99% of games are rated on a 6-10 scale where even trash games somehow get a 6, there's something wrong with the rating system. And it comes down to money, preview copies, blacklistings and shit like that.

It's too bad game sites rely on corporate money because other kind of review sites and critics like movies and cars don't do this. If something is trash, they'll say so and one-star the product. If it means the movie or car gets a 10% tomato rating, most people thumbs downing it, or a car getting a bad rating or that perennial Consumer Reports black dot, then that's what they get.

None of this sugarcoating junk so they don't risk losing ad money or gold copies of games.

Movie and car critics don't do this. So what's up with lack of ethics from video game editors? Ka-ching!

I don’t know; like I said, I haven’t looked at Metacritic in a very long time. It also will depend on how much faith you place in the majority of reviewers. I have almost none. They’ve proven themselves incapable over the years.

Tech reviews are also different than media reviews. There’s a level of objectivity you can more easily get to with tech. There’s objectivity to be had in media reviews as well, but it’s not often employed and in some cases denied that it even exists.

Funny thing is this image is just one of many people have made over the years that are all similar.

The second the internet became big and it was all about scoring online previews and reviews ASAP, the ratings scale skewed heavy to high ratings.

Having looked at all the spoilers, this is a fair criticism. It sounds like a lot of setup is required to really flesh out a multi point of view style approach but it doesn't follow through, probably suffers from too much deconstruction. Ehh... I can accept that and just watch a letsplay of it instead.

The ending is just pure garbage and completely insulting to the player's intelligence. So Ellie goes hunting Abby half across the country, killing hundreds, even a pregnant woman and then.... She let's her go!!! Even after Abby kills Joel & even bites 2 of her fingers clean off. If you're going to kill Joel at least let me avenge him. What in the fucking hell. Screw Neil and his subverting expectations bullshit.

We'll just have to disagree with metacritic , and thats fine. Even for me I like to follow reviewers I trust even if they hated a game I liked its all informative. If majority of the reviews I trust say the game is good, then there is something to that. noted. 96 metacritic noted.

For tech reviews those have become ttribalized too. There is a Samsung camp, If you read in the review comments they'll say this positive LG review was bought and paid for LG. A yearly tv review, were callibrators vote on the best tv for that year, Samsung camp can't trust it LG buys review. I went thru all this when I was looking for a TV. Its like damn everything is political now.

Im not saying you're like this. Its just a general observation. Im getting this vibe from some of these forums. Usually its just all hype before a big game release, for this game more people than usual trying to tear it down, before it comes out , especially with majority of good reviews, its just weird to me. Anyways we'll all know where it truly stands soon enough.

I think the game can be a 10 while the story be stupid at the same time.

It’s a videogame after all.

Deleted. Condensed into one.

That’s actually good.

This franchise is all about Joel and Ellie’s relationship, I don’t know how they can progress without him after this. Dina and his kid it’s just not going to cut it.

Reviews are directional. JUst because a game is universally hated or loved doesn't mean every person on earth has to hate it or love it.

That movie LA Confidential was loved by every critic and won awards. I thought it was the most boring crime thriller I've ever seen. The movie White Chicks by the Wayan brothers is universally panned. I loved it.

The older BF games got awesome scores. I hate BF games. I prefer Call of Duty even though both series of games probably get similar scores over the past 10-15 years.

I’m looking at maybe getting an OLED for PS5. Which one did you end up with or would you recommend?

Part three will likely be another Ellie and Abby plot. I don't see how they could have Abby just sail away never to be seen again.

Also, Dina went AWOL. So part three (which will probably come out around 2025) will be one part going after Abby (or Abby going after Ellie), and Ellie trying to find Dina.

All I can reco is get it at Costco. You get a second year warranty for free, pick up/drop off for any repairs, and an extended warranty for another 3 years (so 5 in total) is only $100. Best Buy's extended warranty to match 5 years like Costco was $400!

First 3 minutes is new stuff, the rest is the same from what i posted before.

I saw this and I really disliked what she did to the big guy. It was unnecessary. I do like the, probably unintentional, jab at Abby’s arm size.

Brother, nobody with any sense has trusted metacritic ever in the history of metacritic. You had games journalists like Dan Hsu 20 years ago talking about how the whole reviews industry was a racket paid for by game publishers. Professional game review scores are a joke and suckers like you are the punchline.

I have a LG C7 65’. Kinda depends on what your looking for. If I were a getting new one CX has more future gaming features free sync 120 Black Frame insertion etc and they are making a 48’ size. only problem is it doesn’t support full hdmi 2.1 48g. Which means you don’t get 12 bit 4:4:4 4k 120fps. You get 4:2:2 4k 120fps which kinda doesn’t matter because the panel is only 10bit. I decided to wait I till End of year / next year, I want to see how nextgen consoles and pc graphics cards works with these TVs . Most reviews are calling the CX a really good giant gaming monitor which is a good thing. If you’re on a super tight budget C9 will be fine.

I’m looking for something smaller than 65”, for sure. As future proof as it can get. I don’t want to have to buy another TV for as long as possible.

Rip, i can't edit my last post. Jesse dies at 8:13:24 for those that haven't seen how he dies yet.
Abby shots him in the face.

Jesus man...he died way too quickly. Quite sad knowing that Abby leaves alive with so much dead on her hands. If Ellie couldn't do it for Joel, she could at least do it for Jessie.

Maybe inspired by Rise of Skywalker, Druckmann decides to add ghost dad to the plot. Maybe part 3 he will have Ellie falling for Abby, and then Ellie dies to save Abby from whatever.

Remember when Tomb Raider was getting dragged for featuring dozens of scenes that depicted brutal violence against a female character and everyone knew, but no one said, that the main problem with it was that Lara is hot?
