Elden Ring balance update makes the first half of the DLC easier, so you don't have to be as good as games journalists

Hopefully this helps the Souls fans complaining about the difficulty to finish the content that gaming journalists were able to fully complete and review

I have no doubt in my mind that reviewers likely were given some kind of edited characters. I have a feeling it was balanced around people who consistently played and not players who might've finished the game and had a character ready for a NG+ like other Souls DLC

Seems like they haven't touched the bosses themselves, but rather changed how the scadutree is balanced, making the first levels of it give you more of a buff.

So yeah, clickbait article.
So what does that mean if you’ve already gotten to 9 or so on the Scadutree? Would that mean I’ll have increased stats for the levels I’ve already gotten or will it boost my scadutree level since I’ve gotten X amount of fragments?

Dunno, but here are the patch notes:

Attack and damage negation curve scaling of the Scadutree Blessing have been revised.

  • The attack and damage negation has been increased for the first half of the maximum amount of Blessing enhancements, and the second half will now be more gradual.
  • The attack and damage negation granted by the final level of Blessing enhancements has been slightly increased.
The calibration update can be applied by logging into the multiplayer server.

If the Calibration Ver. listed at the bottom right of the title menu is not "1.12.2", then select LOGIN and apply the latest regulations before enjoying the game.

God damn it! After a 7 damn years of trying to “git gud” starting with Bloodborne sucking, dark souls 2 I sucked harder, Dark Souls I was ok but still needed other folks to beat most bosses, Dark Souls 3 crushed all hopes about getting any better.

Then Elden Ring I started to look at things different and use strategy better and consumables, yeah, I still sucked but didn’t need much help with bosses. I stopped gaming for about 7 months last year and started it again to finish it to start the DLC and all the sudden it clicked and I did not need help with bosses.

I have played 10 hours in the DLC does maybe have died twice and once was the horsey off a cliff trick and I am thinking I might have “gotten gud!” And this shit happens!!!!!! No sir!

So instead of a steady increase in power that's now front-loaded and the later upgrades will barely make a difference? Not sure that's better.

Needs more Souls hardo's complaining so they can gatekeep casual scrubs from playing the series of games only the worthy of hardo's to play. Get rek't scrubs, stay in yo lane
“If we really wanted the whole world to play the game, we could just crank the difficulty down more and more. But that wasn’t the right approach,” Miyazaki said of Elden Ring. “Had we taken that approach, I don’t think the game would have done what it did, because the sense of achievement that players gain from overcoming these hurdles is such a fundamental part of the experience. Turning down difficulty would strip the game of that joy — which, in my eyes, would break the game itself.”

Every Souls game and DLC has had various balance passes, this isn't new. Every time From is now Casulz Central or the devil. You'd think 15 years after Demon's Souls we'd be used to their standard procedure.

Nice. Now I wish Studio MDHR would balance update the tutorial level for Cuphead so some journalists could actually start the game.

The new scaling system is more like all the other FROM scaling system from items (big returns at the beggining, small returns at the end). At max scadutree level, the damage boost now is 102% vs 100%.

The snark title would be fun if i had any proof that journalists actually finish hard games for their reviews...

Those road blocks did come pretty hard pretty early....Yes, this is "end game" DLC, but also probably been a few years since most players have played.

Getting to a road block in your first sitting with the DLC (an hour or two in against either
dancing lion or Rellena
is pretty frustrating.

Good job whiny players! Being a whiny bitch now gives you the chance to finally say that you are about as good as the journalists stuck at the dash jump tutorial in Cuphead since they actually finished the DLC before you.

Such gamers. Much wow.

All of the people leaving bad reviews because they suck at a game are exactly what's wrong in gaming.

Also here's a trophy for you since Shadow of the Erdtree doesn't have any!

Trophy Unlocked

"You gut gud!"

"Whine like a little bitch about the difficulty of the game because you're too much of a normie to put time into actually becoming good at it!"

Turns out all the people who complained about bad balancing were right, and the 'git gud' crowd were obnoxious weirdos, who'd have thought.

By the way, from the patch notes:

Other balance adjustments as well as bug fixes are also planned for a future patch.#
This was a brute-force 'emergency' balancing patch because clearly their analytics showed serious issues with boss clearing rates. Prepare for more to come.

Cute burn . I guess it's fine for the "journalists" to yuk it up when they can considering how often they've been incredibly embarrassing. On the other hand, I believe FightinCowboy mentioned it during an episode of his Let's Play that review copies came with a guide or map on places they should go check out to find stuff so maybe they shouldn't be crowing too hard.

As an aside, if you were one the unironic "git gud" responders to complaints about difficulty/balance that are now lamenting the rebalancing I also have a 2 word reply for ya.

Everyone that didn't have their head up their ass knew this was happening. The only surprising part might be how quickly they did something. Hell, yesterday they even put up a news article on the Steam page about powering up your character in the DLC so obviously there's some level of disconnect between the general playerbase and From's intentions. I bet it's not just just a response to complaints and player reviews but actual data on how hard people were getting wrecked.

Probably wasn't a good thing to release a balance patch right before the DLC either. Should've came out at least a week or two prior.

This good

Source for anyone who hasn't seen it. It's VERY GOOD.

Tbh, they could've fixed this if early bosses give out 3 or 4 scadutree blessings, so you don't have to explore the map to get them. And you know these "journalists" are just bum rushing to the dungeons instead of exploring the map.

Shitty clickbait.

They rebalanced the Scadutree upgrades. They scale a bit higher early on and a bit lower later on, resulting in a small buff when all are collected.

The patch takes it from very hard to still very hard but a bit less so.

I didn't expect From to make it "Easy Mode" , just minor , but positive tweak to the DLC.
