This. He used to go hard in the paint shitting on Sony first party graphics when he was here pre-exodus scam (and pre-DF). In every graphics comparison thread showing the fault in 400x zoom compared to the mighty Star Citiscam.

Hold on......Alex use to post of GAF?!

There's a very clear difference in what Alex is saying.

Bethesda is a first party MS studio..... exclusivity is fine. Bloober and Konami are not PS studios... thus having a year exclusivity.. is dumb.

Why do some people have such a gard time understanding basic concepts?
So it wasn't pathetic that MS signed exclusive deals with Capcom (Dead Rising 3) or Sega (timed exclusive for the next gen release of Like a Dragon)?
Did DF Alex have any negative comments about this?

That makes them console games how???

I agree that making the remake of an old game a PS5 console exclusive for a year is a bit pathetic but, presumably, this is down to Sony and their solution to their lack of first-party exclusives, which is to pay money out to make third-party games exclusive instead. If a game is intended for multi-format then it really should not have any exclusivity attached to it in my opinion.

But if the game is also available on PC then it isn't really exclusive in the true sense of the word anyway since it is available on more than one platform...

Sure, sure. Not this "but they bought the publisher now so making it exclusive is fine whereas paying the publisher to make a game is not" again.
If those court documents didn't come out that Phil would have continued to lie to the world about being anti exclusive deals too:

Did twitter twats like Alex keep the same energy is the question.

It's embarrassing that people care that much. He can have his own fanboy opinion just like you or anyone else can...

Be careful, otherwise the ridiculous arguments will come back that MS HAD to buy all the publishers because Sony did so much moneyhatting...

Medium was made by Bloober and was a timed exclusive.

Stalker is also a timed exclusive.

These kind of exclusives have always been a thing and nobody used to ever complain. If you wanted something you bought it. End of story. Now we seem to be living amongst an entire generation of people who look for something to be mad about. Such a waste of time. Just shut the fuck up because nobody cares.

I expect paid console exclusivity to ps5 is a pretty tasty deal for devs right now. Given the sales split of third party titles, they’ll only be missing out on about 10% of their console sales, they get a nice lump sum from Sony, and either don’t need to at all (accidentally 100% exclusivity), or can delay the arse on of supporting the series S.

God of War 2018 on PC peaked at 73k concurrent users and it has sold close to 3 million units lifetime, for example.

And new game releases tend to hit peak concurrent users the Sunday afternoon after the game comes out. So we'll see where that lands after this weekend, but I think a fair guess is around 30k for FF16.
We shall see but once GOW hit that mark, every game since including Horizon, TLOU1 and Spiderman have all failed to hit that mark.

We do know what revenues correspond to those figures since sony revealed themselves. its pathetic compared to what they generate on consoles. And again, this is just revenue so subtract 30% from this $26 million for selling $971k units. If we go by Horizon ZD which made $60 million from 2.4 million sales. GOW is at $60 million in revenue, $42 after the steam cut, and maybe around $35 million in profit after marketing and porting costs. Ragnorak and FF16 are 1/3rd the concurrent users so far so 1/3rd of $35 million is $12 million. At this point, whats the point? just skip PC and focus on making a better game on PS5. Sony probably paid around $50-100 million for exclusivity. IIRC, Phil paid $100 million for Rise of Tomb raider.

People forget that a lot of asian countries, south american countries and eastern european countries pay well below the $60 steam charges U.S owners. Thats why so many key websites are able to sell keys for a discount. 1 million sales does not mean $60 million in revenue on PC.

1 year console exclusivity is not that bad. We used to have no idea about the duration of the timed exclusivities, or whether they were indeed timed in some cases.

I agree, it would be nice if the title wasn't skipping Xbox at launch. But it's likely that the developers got necessary funding through this exclusivity agreement to polish the game further and properly finish it, and also focusing on less platforms for the release may have benefited the quality of the final product.

The point is they're making millions of dollars out of a small investment. And these are coming a year or oftentimes years after their original Playstation release. It's not like keeping it Playstation exclusive would somehow make the PS version better.

And again, if and when they make the move to day-and-date releases, we're going to see these numbers on PC go way up as well.

did you even visit those threads? Barely anybody is complaining about the practice of exclusivity in them there are more people cheering.

Yes, no one was losing their shit about it back in the day ... it's not like it didn't birth a classic meme or two.

Square just shot themselves in the foot.

I don't know how much the rest of you know about Japanese culture (I'm an expert), but honor and shame are huge parts of it. It's not like it is in America where you can become successful by being an asshole. If you screw someone over in Japan, you bring shame to yourself, and the only way to get rid of that shame is repentance.

What this means is the japanese public, after hearing about this, is not going to want to purchase FFXIII for either system, nor will they purchase any of Square's games. This is HUGE. You can laugh all you want, but Square has alienated an entire market with this move.

Square, publicly apologize and cancel FFXIII for 360 or you can kiss your business goodbye.

But were they bad then like the newfound energy now? What say you?

Is STALKER bad? Was the Medium bad? Well yes, some argue the game itself was, but I digress.

I don't know about 'newfound energy', the energy is always there, it just comes from different conduits.

The point being, it's not like people complaining about exclusive games is a new phenomenon.

BennyBlanco BennyBlanco didn't even mention the Dragon Quest IX DS thread. I'm sure I'm missing other examples too.
