3 Dual Senses, 3 of them Stickdrifted.

How many of you official current gen controllers drifted?

With the regular DS the most annoying issue ive had is that the stick cap becomes loose and spins around when you move the stick, making it kinda slippery lol, dunno how to fix that one.

Easiest fix ever :
Buy some thumb grips, I always used them and I never had a problem with the caps spinning.

In fact, for what they cost , they're easily one of the best "investments" when it comes to gaming

Those are disgusting lmao.

This is my 8+ years old DS4 that came with the PS4 Pro, back button attached, no stick drift. Normal daily usage.

This is my 4 months old Dual Sense from PS5 Pro. Normal daily usage. I have more issues with cleaning dead thumb skin from the stick rubbers than DS4, but other than that, no drift.

these are dead controllers, i didn't throw them away so i just store them elsewhere, just pull out to take a picture

It’s fucked up that 8bitdo puts hall effect sticks in their $50 controller that comes with a dock and none of the console makers do with their $70 controllers or Sony with their $200 controller
There's a newer tech on the market called TMR it has a better suited sensor for Xbox and Sony controllers.

And first Capacitive Joysticks are on the horizon by K-Silver model JL16. Evolution of TMR with polling rate of apparently 8000hz. In the realm of gaming mouse.

But yeah I agree about 8BitDo, I have Pro 2 Halla, 3-Mode+Dock and another one is shipping 2C Ultimate 1000hz polling rate, rare colour. I'm curious about that one for MP gaming with aim assist.

I've only used two Dualsenses so far:

Launch, no stick drift, at least none that was noticeable.
A purple one I bought like 2 years ago, and it's starting to get stick drift on the right. That, or something is messing with it like a hair lol.

My first controller DID, however, have the issue where the little metal trigger spring broke.

Honestly they are rubbish. I still have my launch pad and i replaced the module with a hall effect one. Zero issues for many years and many more i hope.

Had 2 controllers and both ended up drifting, thanks to GT7. Luckily, I could fix them myself by just swapping out the potentiometers, which were super cheap on amazon. Didn’t have to solder or anything.

Y’all a bunch of groady-ass motherfuckers

4 dualsense
1 DS edge
4 DS4s
3 sets of joy cons
4 x1/xs controllers

All in the last 10 years, the only one that’s had any issues is my design lab controller from like 2015 and it is beat and groady

4 Dual Senses, 4 work(ed) fine.
Sold 2 OG white ones after like 2 or 3 years to get black ones.

My DS5 got drift in the left analog stick. I take a lot of care of it and it broke anyway. it sucks. I didin't have any problems with my Switch and i played the same or even more tham my PS5.

I'll have to repeat myself here for added visibility:

Boys, give the contact cleaner method a go - especially if you're out of warranty since you got absolutely nothing to lose.

Managed to (literally) save 2 joypads this way which I thought they were cooked/in need of replacement.

Out of all the DIY methods, this is both one of the easiest.and safest ones 😉

Might as well try.

But it could go either way.

My friend already had a replacement on the way in an external service shop.

And we gave it a go. Long story short, we only did more damage since they contact spray we used evaporated any lube that was there.

I personally use new contact spray in my audio equipment and it's pretty good for potentiometers and switches and my give it a go some day on my DualSense analog sticks.

WD Specialist Contact Cleaner. It is the best one I have ever used so far.

Given another chance
It’s an absolute disgrace that the PlayStation Portal doesn’t have replaceable thumbsticks given these were designed ahead of the portal and the known issues with stick drift.

3 dualsense, 1 edge. All right stick drifting. I just ordered 1 stick module.

Found someone who can modify the dualsense controller with hall effect sticks, but not the edge. Seriously considering that. I love the edge but drifting sticks infuriates me to no end.

Also to add, NONE of my controllers since the PS2 has drifted. Very unlucky this gen I guess.

Made a crappy phPBB forum once ... once.
Probably push so hard on the sticks but think its normal and shouldn't affect them.

I've had controllers and joysticks since the Spectrum days, it's never happened to me.

I had two Dual Shock controllers. One was the one that came with my PS4 and one that I bought a few years later. I still use the first one today, without any drift, the second one started drifting after a few months. And then at some point I couldn't charge the battery anymore. I don't have a PS5, but of course I want to buy one at some point, but it annoys me that a €60-70 controller is very likely to have such an annoying problem.

And I'm sure Sony knows that people would rather buy a new one than hassle with customer service. This really annoys me about Sony!

My launch PS5 (2020) controller had drift on the right stick within 6 months, sent to repair in warranty, got a new one back.
Since then, none of my DS (5 in total) had any drift. Is, in essence, a lottery.
When it became easy to replace those sticks with hall ones, I'll do it for peace of mind.

Got both dualsense sticks upgraded to Hall effect cost £20 each from some guy on eBay a year later no signs of drift at all before that got it multiple times thankfully it was in the warranty period

Ah, the dude is in Malaysia. Not sure if he's accessible to you guys. Also I saw some hall stick modules on sale on Alibaba.com. if you have soldering skills, I reckon you could DIY it. They don't cost that much either. But I'm pretty sure there's someone in the US who does these modifications too, you could post your controllers and such. Forgot the name, it was in one of those dual sense reddit groups.

I also read hall stick modules have issues with calibration after the change, so I myself am unsure of the quality after the change.

Guess I've been lucky.
I only have 1 Dualsense, the one that came with my console 4 years ago. And it still works fine.

I've been pretty lucky with drift in general. Even my launch Joycons only started drifting after 6.5 years, and it's still not bad enough for me to replace them.

for the cost of half a Dualsense you could‘ve your sticks replaced for hall effect sticks. Don‘t support Sony, get your shit repaired and live a happy life.

Never had an issue with any game pad going back to Intellivision except:

- PS1 dpad was messed. Exchanged it for a new one. Problem solved.

- Xbox rechargeable plug and play kit eventually bombs out where it can’t hold a charge after 3-4 years. Happens every time. Since I don’t play as much as I used to I decided to buy a 48 pack of Costco batteries and will plow through that. I think it was $15 tops

Maybe your thumb is crooked? 🤷‍♂️😂

But seriously I have had both a ps4 and Xbox series thumb stick just straight up break off ... don't make-em like they use to.

The white DualSense that came with my PS5 developed drift after about a year. The black one I bought at the same time is still fine.

Although this will skew into whataboutism, I have found all three console controllers to be pretty shit this generation.

My Xbox Series black controller had a bad shoulder and face button out of the box. The RB of replacement Microsoft sent me went bad after six months. The LB and A buttons on my Space Jam Xbox Series controller died after about a year, and that was with me using it in rotation with two others.

Over on the Switch, I’ve had to send back two sets of joycons for repairs and my original pro controller’s left stick completely died and lost all tension after a year.

I’ve had more issues with controllers this generation than any previous one.

I've never had stuck drift in any controller other than Joy-con. I find it highly unlikely you got stick drift three times with DualSense controllers unless you're doing something absolutely crazy.

I don't want to accused you of lying, but I think you're lying.

I got the ps5 day one launch day and used one controller for 2 years exclusively then i got a second controller and used both everyday up till now but i also got astrobot controller when that came out. Only my first one had a little stick drift because i dropped it a lot and ate food while gameing but also i used it probably 4k hours of game time. I max out every fortnite battle pass for every season to level 300 and i played destiny every season on top of rocket league as well as my sp sony games and other games i played. Probably got 30 plats since ps5 launch as well. I dont know why some people get stick drift so much when i only got it once and i game 100 times longer than most. I feel it could be a skill issue problem.

I haven't had any issues with stick drift this gen. I do have an Xbox Series controller that fell off a table and the left stick broke. I'm thinking of getting some Hall effect sticks from aliexpress and trying to fix it myself. Then if it works I could replace the sticks on other controllers.

Sony got their controller wrong, the weight, the start and select vs the middle button trying to push a gimmick since the ps4, the triggers are overrated, where dualshock delivered was the classic colors on the buttons, the weight, battery life I couldn’t believe was another benefit on the Duelshock 3.

How many people are had to contact Sony support over bad joysticks? They basically shipped consoles with faulty controllers.

Mine are still working just fine. The white dualsense that came with my phat PS5 has the green joystick modules which were more reliable than the blue ones that were in the launch dualsense controllers. I also dont manhandle them with an iron grip like when a kid with down syndrome grabs you because you took his tablet.

I opened my DS4 the other night and I shit you not there was a tiny man in there that was causing this drift the whole time. Startled, I gently picked him up by the arm and placed him outside.

It's become so much of a problem i decided to buy a victrix pro bfg and separately bought their hall effect stick module. I was able to get the controller on sale for like $120 hard to justify it at full price. Currently liking the controller and the feel of it but will miss out on certain features.

Maybe I'm lucky mult controls from all consoles. Only 1 joycon had stick drift. My biggest problem with controllers are the ones with the rubber grips, the rubber eventually breaks down and becomes sticky.

Kamina

Had it on Switch and i had it in 2/3 Dual Sense Controllers.
Contact cleaner is what got rid of it for me, permanently, so far.

I just recently got a second dual sense because stick drift occurred on my only dual sense. I do have some other controllers that went bad but for different reasons. The only one to have this specific issue was the dual sense

I've had 2 with stick drift first one was with the launch PS5, second controller I bought on amazon(au). Drift started happening in just under 1 year.
Amazon replaced it no questions asked. I now have the galactic purple and starlight blue they are still going strong, but I use them less now on PC switched to 8bitdo pro2.
I swear if the PS6 doesn't come with hall effect sticks its a joke.

I threw my launch controller in the bin last summer. It had severe drift on RS, I opened it up, tried a few things, didn't work. Dumped it.

I bought an Edge last fall. It was discounted. I tend to set paddles a lot when a game has L3 and R3 usage. And you can finally change the sticks on it. Should be cheaper in the long run. And its a better controller.

The durability on these things sucks, but its how it is.
