I have to say that I was turned off by Abby looking so incredibly pumped as well. Partly because I just don't find very muscular women attractive, I'll admit that, but also because I wondered how on earth this woman could get so big in a ruined post-apocalyptic landscape. It seemed unrealistic in muh zombie game. But that was before I seen that picture of the gym.
I'm coming around to the idea that I should maybe hold off on jumping to conclusions about all of this. There is a whole lot of stuff that we just haven't seen. A whole lot of context. ND could be doing so many things with this game that will only make sense when the player goes on the journey & experiences it first-hand, that simply can't make any sense just now based on pictures & shorter videos taken out of context.
I think I'm in the bargaining stage now, is what I'm getting at.

After thinking about this more. It's basically your main characters from the first game being offed and replaced by a random nobody. It was nagging at me for a while and it seems like I've heard/read it before. Then it hit me, it's just like how Star Wars/Dr. Who/Marvel turned out!

Just watch that 90min leak video. It looks great.
Its very telling to me which parts of the footage have gotten all the commentary, because oddly enough (*cough*) all the good stuff people seem to have completely ignored. Talking about literally the first 15 mins of the game, complete with credits and captions.
And sorry, I don't buy for a fucking second all the "betrayal" narrative. After watching 90mins of footage the game looks every inch a worthy successor. And if anyone actually cared about the first game, they wouldn't be in such a rush to shit all over this.
Case in point:
Noone seemed to complain when she was introduced in the PGW 2017 video, so why is it suddenly a problem now?

By the sounds of the pay dispute, it seems that employees don't get bonus till the game ships, while the big wigs still got theirs. Can't do it.
And since the game kept getting delayed, people got pissed. The whole coronavirus delay was total BS. Funny how the SUnday leak suddenly made the game get a new launch date literally a day later. I don't think it was even 24 hours.
The game was ready, but wanted to parlay it with a delay. I totally suspect it was going to be a PS5 launch title so they have a heavy hitter, and this employee had enough. The game was supposed to be out in Feb, then May, then unknown, then magically June 19 after the leak. And Ghosts gets bumped 3 weeks due to coronavirus working from home from end of June to July so the two games aren't 10 days apart. Ya, ok.
I totally get there may be strict line by line policies regarding bonus payouts, but as I said earlier today, bonuses are a big portion of many jobs, and you got to bend the rules. And people shouldn't be buying shit before they get the bonus.
But if a dock strike in BC or California delays our company getting product, management will fight tooth and nail with US HQ to compromise on that external factor. Coronavirus delays are no different. Donn't burn us. We did our best.
Canada has been hit with shit US currency effects the past 5 or so years. Translate that Canadian profit to US bucks and gets gimped probably 20%. But that's an external factor that is beyond our control. Don't gimp our bonus on that. We aren't currency traders.
And they never have. We've always got a fair bonus based on performance and not getting dinged for dumb external stuff.
It's not like Sony and ND are broke like some small studio that needs the sales shipments before they can get enough money to pay. Sony has had record profits the last few years. They got cash to help pay ND employee bonuses given the circumstances. The bosses got it. The money is there.
More important than all of this is fair bonus pay timing. Every company I;ve worked at everyone from analysts to the VP gets it the same time. The company waits until the previous year is final and then they calculate the bonus after discussing external factors, which is almost always February. It's not like the VP gets it in January or in Dec when the year wasn't even done yet. Everyone waits and gets it together on the same pay day where every boss calls you into an office one by one and discusses your pay bonus with an official letter signed by the CEO as proof.
As I've said before in old posts, video game studios often seem to have this weird culture. And it goes beyond crunch, since some industries have crunch too. But when you hear about the toxic cultures, weird pay/bonus protocols, and the CEOs (Druckmann, Pitchford and the like) can always seem to act with a heavier iron fist than any big corporation I've worked it. Gaming seems like an industry that is fun because you make games, but also seems scuzzy sometimes.

Joel and Ellie had one game. That's it. Unless I'm missing the secret Vita portable and the tactics game on PS4 or something. They were nobodies in that game.

At least it looks like it plays well from the gameplay video. The really engrossing narrative of the first game that was paired with the great gameplay is what turned it into such a good package.
I'm having some doubts about this one. I don't know how many slow hallway walks with She-Hulk I care about doing. And the Life is Strange high school romance probably isn't gonna hook me too hard either. We'll see, though. I purposely scanned through the long video to keep some things fresh, but I'm just not feeling this much at all anymore.

After seeing most of the leaks and getting a clear picture of the way Joel dies, I got to say ND did a poor job of making the player emphathise with Abby and her group. If they had knocked out Tommy and killed Joel with a knife stab or shot him in the head, I'd have been okay with it. But they full on torture him and kill him in the worst possible way by bashing his head in with a golf club. To add insult to injury, another member then spits on Joel's dead body. This is just another take on the "circle of violence" that we've all seen before countless number of times but amped up to get a cheap reaction from people given how Joel dies. The one good thing I see is that Ellie is still alive in the end.

I platinumed Bloodborne. I sometimes/often mistype it as Bloodbourne. I don't know why it just feels like naturally it should be spelt bloodbourne. I know how it is spelt. I also know I sometimes mis-spell it when not thinking. I blame my other language for that.

How would people here have done in the 60s and 70s when pretty much anybody decent had at least something political in their work? Some of the best music ever made was from people who wore their politics on their sleeve and that goes for movies as well so why not video games?
