Okay, here's where things start to get shitty:

This is just the same dumb-as-shit gatekeeping garbage that CliffyB was trying to pull on Olivia Munn a couple weeks ago. Snyder can just be bad at story and pacing. Because it's been a weakspot his entire career. It doesn't have to be evidence of some sort of nefarious infiltration of unworthies sullying our things with their greasy, meathead fingers.

The idea that Batman and Superman are the sole province of the nerd space is fucking dumb. The idea that Zack Snyder is a vanguard of "Bro Culture" because he lifts weights is almost as dumb. The idea that Batman and Superman turned out poorly because Zack Snyder got his bro culture smeared all over our Nerd Culture is just weird.

It's not like this sort of shit comes up when any other director screws up a "nerd" property. Nobody goes "Well, what do you expect, he does pushups."

that's pretty insulting. i think him and snyder should have a charity boxing match like faraci did last time with some other critic (was it for charity or was it just some stupid internet beef?)

Zack Synder isn't a "Bro" because he's actually read comics and has a passion for the work he has adapted so far.

He lacks an inherent understanding of story, which has been always been a weak link in his work, but it is unfair to say he's a representation of "Bro Culture" appropriating comics.

Also, who cares? Comics are for everyone.

civil war can't be bad right?

After Ant-Man turned out good considering the hell that went through, I question how any Marvel movie now can actually be outright bad. Except Thor movies. Fuck Thor movies.

Back on the DC topic - if this underperforms, could we get solo Batman before JL?

If there is any silver lining to this (assuming tepid word of mouth and a significant 2nd WE drop off -- and yes that is a BIG if), perhaps WB will consider retooling their approach with this franchise. Maybe actually bringing in some creative talent who actually understand this universe, and trusting them to properly build the DCEU. People who understand that you shouldn't shoehorn incompatible tones/themes with certain characters.

But probably not, tho.

Then this is what DC fans should hope for. BvS flops and the creative team changes.

Agreed. Thor 1 and 2 aren't good.

Thor 3 may turn out okay.

Don't worry Civil War shouldn't be as bad as A1 & 2.
Neither are bad movies. Whedon's stuff is too quippy and Age of Ultron suffered from having to set up the next phase, but it's not abysmal.

It's funny that Snyder gets called out for infiltrating nerd space when one of the founding fathers of superhero movies was someone who actively disdained comic books and would often talk about how he hated reading them (Tim Burton).

But he didn't have big biceps.

It's especially ridiculous because Watchmen, for its faults, is mind-bogglingly faithful to the source material.

First Thor movie was great man. The music and the opening/closing visuals with galaxy travels was soooo damn good.
Dark World is boring however.

This is definitely something very unfair that has been thrown at Snyder all his career. It's kinda sad. I mean, I get it, the guy looks like a bit of a jock meathead type, has tattoos, lifts weights, and his film tend to emphasis the masculine side of things and focus on action over more subtle storytelling. But at this point, those that continue to pile on that as a "look at this bro thinking he's one of us" is pretty gross. The guy clearly has a passion for comics and geek stuff, he also has other interests and his personality might not be the docile intellectually inclined idea of a nerd, and I think that's all cool. Wish he made better films though, considering the chances he's given. :p
Sums up my feelings on him pretty well. His strike rate is pretty low for me, but that's because he makes bad movies often, not because he lifts weights.

I'm sure you'll be fine, but I have a feeling kids are gonna find this movie boring as dirt.

Yeah, Affleck will get me through, but the young fella might struggle a bit. Oh well, part of growing up is seeing movies that are not what you expect.

Ang Lee's Hulk is legit one of the most underrated comic flicks

You'll never get a better Bruce Banner than Eric Bana

Ang Lee's Hulk is pretty damn admirable. Still surprised it even exists though, it be like talking about Wes Anderson's X-Men or Terrence Malick's Superman.

Completely agreed. Eric Bana was awesome as Bruce and the Hulk scenes were fuckin dynamite.

Damn. 40% on RT? Critics sure aren't liking it. Thought that it would start off relatively high before dropping down to 75%-80%.

Going to wait for my favorite reviewers to watch the movie to better give me an idea of what I should expect going into the movie.

Dude your avatar is amazing! I used to know those characters as a kid. I forget the names tho...Benjamin Toad?? Idk but that's my childhood lol.

Zack Snyder is a huge fucking nerd.

I mean, he directed Watchmen.
Nevermind that

Just look at what he ejaculated onto the screen with Sucker Punch

I think if anything, out of all people to attack as a fake nerd, Zack Snyder is literally the truest god damn nerd making movies in hollywood right now.

Watchmen is the best movie you're going to get based on the source material, which inherently doesn't work as a movie. It should be a television series.

The ending Snyder went with is faithful to the comic, even if it isn't a facsimile.

Those reasons are exactly why it was bad.
It's far more entertaining than Man of Steel. We'll see how it compares to Batman v Superman.

Matt Zoller Seitz said:
At times it might make you long for Christopher Nolan's delicate touch. Those last four words have never appeared side-by-side before. Life’s funny that way.

Okay, that quote is incredible.

Even the harshest Bay critics never call his movies BORING. Thats the worst thing you can call a summer blockbuster.

Guess what one of the main criticisms of BvS is thus far.

I dunno, I thought Transformers 4 was boring as all fuck, and that had Grimlock in it.

As far as BvS goes:

I'll admit, despite initially expecting this movie to be awful, the most recent trailers and the early screening positive responses had me actually kinda hyped. Oops. Shoulda known better. I skipped MoS in theatres because I knew it would suck, but I'm still tempted to see this in theatres for some reason.

Thinks buying more servers can fix a bad patch
so its worse than Age of Ultron...hmm.

Goes to show that putting together all those oscars-winning people doesn't magically make the film good.

Maybe they're intimidated by his swoleness.

I will defend Avengers as being a structurally tight film. Blended the backstories from the solo films into a movie that also established the character dynamics on its own.

You either like or dislike the 'Cheers with superheroes' approach, but it doesn't mess with the plot.

I have a weird feeling the extra 30 minutes in the Ultimate cut weren't really optional. Like Watchmen.
Yeah, you dont cut 30 minutes out of a final cut from an original screenplay and not lose anything.

Would be very surprised if the Extended Cut isn't a huge improvement in terms of pacing, structure and characterization...all of which seem to be big criticisms at the moment.

Man, I'm still surprised. I can't believe this actually scored lower than Man Of Steel. Now I might go see it just because I want to see how bad it is.
