Batman v. Superman RT Thread: like standing ovations in rain

Snyder is a surface read sort of guy.

He had Nite Owl and Silk Spectre casually killing dudes.

However, I think that the film was hurt by the fact that Silk Spectre is the emotional lychpin of the entire comic series, and Malin Akerman can't act.

Also the fact that he completely ruined Adrian's character.

Actually I think the lighthearted movies are coming, probably stealing a Marvel director/screenwriter. Shazam is safe, I think.

Well it's certainly one of two ways they could choose to go. Suicide Squad doing well could encourage them to keep forging ahead, but I think it's likely Batman continues to play an increasingly central role in things (as it sounded like as already was the case with this film and he, as well as Joker, has been placed in SS) despite not necessarily belonging there.

It would be better to have a vision going forward that informs a game plan for how they tie it all together and balance their risks against their rewards, but I really doubt that happens given how things have panned out thus far.

Deborah Snyder just laid out the schedule. I guess every movie announced until Flash is safe for now http://forums.superherohype.com/showthread.php?t=511363&page=17

This.

Everyone praises the visuals and how "faithful" it is, but its gaudy bombast is completely against the style and intent of the source.

Considering the various permutations I've read of the proposed film adaptation of Watchmen, Snyder's version isn't bad. It's not Watchmen, but it's as good of a film adaptation as you're going to get.

A television series would be better suited for Watchmen.

I just love some of they post. May be a good idea to actually see the movie before saying things like "I knew it!", "Worst that MoS" etc. But then again, motives gon motive.

An HBO miniseries would be perfect.

Okay, here's where things start to get shitty:

This is just the same dumb-as-shit gatekeeping garbage that CliffyB was trying to pull on Olivia Munn a couple weeks ago. Snyder can just be bad at story and pacing. Because it's been a weakspot his entire career. It doesn't have to be evidence of some sort of nefarious infiltration of unworthies sullying our things with their greasy, meathead fingers.

The idea that Batman and Superman are the sole province of the nerd space is fucking dumb. The idea that Zack Snyder is a vanguard of "Bro Culture" because he lifts weights is almost as dumb. The idea that Batman and Superman turned out poorly because Zack Snyder got his bro culture smeared all over our Nerd Culture is just weird.

It's not like this sort of shit comes up when any other director screws up a "nerd" property. Nobody goes "Well, what do you expect, he does pushups."
Really can't stand Faraci. This nerd culture shit is lame.

When I talk about faithfulness, I'm talking about how it's virtually the same basic framework with much of the same imagery, including shot for shot recreations of panels.

I don't like Zack Snyder's Watchmen (I even made a thread complaining about it on NeoGAF), but there's no denying only a Watchmen fan could have made that movie.

Everything about Zack Snyder's work screams Frank Miller fan to me. He probably even loves garbage like All Star Batman and Robin.

Iron Man 3 is still the best Iron Man movie.

I'm being 100% serious. I love IM3, the twist is fan-fucking-tastic.

Honestly I don't think Thor 1 or 2 are BAD, but that doesn't mean there good either. They're... adequate.

It's far more entertaining than Man of Steel. We'll see how it compares to Batman v Superman.
From an action perspective I'd have to disagree, although I would have to rewatch both, but I remember feeling like Ultron was a bad movie for a number of reasons and everything it tried to do in that regard fell flat with me. I do have hope that the Russo Bros will do something good with Civil War since I really enjoyed Winter Soldier, but the trailers are lacking for me so far and seeing that air port fight scene over and over is wearing on me.
I will defend Avengers as being a structurally tight film. Blended the backstories from the solo films into a movie that also established the character dynamics on its own.

You either like or dislike the 'Cheers with superheroes' approach, but it doesn't mess with the plot.
Avengers 1 was structurally fine, but was largely the Iron Man and Hulk show and when 2/3's of your supposed super hero squad are made to look like chumps it begs the question why they were even there.

The biggest flaw with his adaptation was the ending. It rings false and misses the whole point of the comics ending, that the destruction needed to come from an alien force with zero ideological ties to any nation so that all nations banded together against it.

Dude messed up the whole fucking thing.

Can you imagine a HBO/Netflix 12 episode adaptation

oof

I could see people making the argument that Man of Steel is to Dawn of Justice as Amazing Spider Man is to Amazing Spider Man 2.

A movie that has some serious flaws followed by a mess of a sequel that has higher highs but jams in some unnecessary universe building without really solving any problems from the first.

And, yes, I've seen the movie already.

Christ that's a depressing analogy.

So is Snyder going to continue to make all these movies? MoS & BvS aren't critical darlings by any stretch. And if he does get replaced, when? And by who?

Probably. Man of Steel had a polarized reception, and they moved forward with Snyder on not just one, but three more movies (though I don't know if Justice League was meant to be a two-parter at that point).

They did get rid of Goyer, but that looks like it had more to do with Affleck coming aboard than catering to what some people thought about Man of Steel's writing at the very last minute so I don't see them bowing much to critical reception unless it really affects the profits.
