Yeah, you dont cut 30 minutes out of a final cut and not lose anything.

Would be very surprised if the Extended Cut isn't a huge improvement in terms of pacing, structure and characterization...all of which seem to be big criticisms at the moment.

I'm really wondering why Man of Steel never got a Director's Cut. Snyder likes doing them, did WB just disagree with having one, or was he too busy jumping right into the sequel and DCCU planning at the time?

The movie completely misses a lot of the novel's themes

And he also showed the world he had no idea what the fuck Watchmen was actually about.
When I talk about faithfulness, I'm talking about how it's virtually the same basic framework with much of the same imagery, including shot for shot recreations of panels.

I don't like Zack Snyder's Watchmen (I even made a thread complaining about it on NeoGAF), but there's no denying only a Watchmen fan could have made that movie.

What if it breaks down into three minutes of plot-related scenes and twenty-seven minutes of Batman brutalizing criminals and Superman in ways that didn't make the PG-13 cut?
I have a really hard time believing that. Even Snyder isn't that indulgent towards thoughtless action. People say the pacing in the first half of this movie is crazy.. just like Man of Steel was for me. There's probably stuff gutted left and right.

well not really...yet

IIRC he said there wasn't much cut. More than likely Man of Steel was much more rushed than this was or any of Snyder's other movies.

In this case, it really seems like a Watchman case again maybe. Big ass fucking movie, but WB aint about to release a 3 hour movie.

We'll see I suppose.

Seriously though, how the fuck do you get Batman vs. Superman wrong.

Also whenever the meter updates it's going back down to 40 with all these reviews coming in, (33 still accurate for top critics, but not sure how good their "top critics" are.)

Honestly, with a movie with the two biggest superheroes bar Spider-Man, if this doesn't do well despite reviews, WB has failed hard.

Neither are bad movies. Whedon's stuff is too quippy and Age of Ultron suffered from having to set up the next phase, but it's not abysmal.

I think a lot of this is people reading things into the film based on announcements made before AoU came out, rather than the actual content of the film. Like, Cap and Tony's disagreements as laying the groundwork for Civil War? Nope! Whedon had no idea about Civil War when writing it. Klaw and Wakanda are obvious set-ups for Black Panther movie right? Actually, Whedon had no idea Black Panther was even coming, he just wanted to reference Wakanda for the sake of it.

Hell, Whedon wanted to include Captain Marvel and Spider-Man at the end of the movie, not because he wanted to set-up their spin-offs, but because he thought it'd be cool to expand the roster with sudden new people that way. He also wanted Hulk to fly off into space. Marvel nixed both of these ideas. So outside of Thor's 5 minute Infinity Stone detour, there's not a lot of 'setting up the next phase' going on.

BvS was announced 2 weeks after MoS' premiere, and that movie was made on a rush by WB amidst some threats of losing the rights to the character. A good director's cut is possible, but it should actually shorten the movie.

The ending isn't a facsimile of the book, but it's a faithful representation of it, as there's no way they were going to do the squid.

Watchmen isn't a good movie, but it's the best movie adaptation we're going to get out of the material. It would only work as a television series, and even then it'd be difficult to pull off.

Snyder is a surface read sort of guy.

He had Nite Owl and Silk Spectre casually killing dudes.

However, I think that the film was hurt by the fact that Silk Spectre is the emotional lynchpin of the entire comic series, and Malin Akerman can't act.

He needs better writers at least.
It's kinda tough to write around TDKR + shoe horn in like 5 superheroes, too. There's only so much you can do with 2.5 hours.

Feels like WB might have some fault here for trying to do too much with the film, especially when they were trying to do it with Goyer and Snyder as their main guys.

Still, fuck me that they seemed to have given us mopey emo superman again. What a bummer if that's the case.

The squid was horrible and I almost stopped reading after that panel. I don't even care how much sense it might have made.

He's on record saying WB actually was READY to make it a 3 hours movie, but he pressured HARD to shorten it as much as possible. That's what I'm salty against him, this is his fault.

Wait, what? Are you saying that BvS is not trying to be a superhero movie? It seems to me like if there were EVER a movie trying to be a superhero movie, it's this.

Batman having an emo problem and takes it out on Superman?

also kill people with guns?

That's less heroic than I can ever think of.

Just got out of this.

It's awful and I went in with really low expectations after Man of Steel.

There's zero character development and everything seems jumbled, like scenes are mixed up. Its bonkers.

Jesus CHRIST man....

I would wager a week long ban from GAF if Civil War dips below BvS on RT.

Not me. I have some faith in the Russos but I'm seeing an Apocalypse entire movie breakdown elsewhere on the net, and if it's real it sounds like a terrible version of a Mummy reboot. After BvS sounding like its MoS tier, and Apoc sounding bad I have no real idea what to expect out of this year anymore.

SAVE US DEADPOOL! Announce the fucking sequel already.

There is only one BAD MCU movie.

Iron Man 2

You forgot Ironman 3, both Thors and Hulk. Terrible stuff.

I just love some of they post. May be a good idea to actually see the movie before saying things like "I knew it!", "Worst that MoS" etc. But then again, motives gon motive.

i don't think you'll get some kingdom of heaven: DC-esque save with this extended cut. it will be more padding to a film that people are saying is already overstuffed with comic book reference.

but then i'm not a snyder fan. after dawn of the dead, man of steel was his most enjoyable movie for me and i would rate that a 6/10.

What's really weird is that Snyder had Carla Gugino right there! Why not cast HER as Silk Spectre?

He kills so many fucking people its almost laughable.

So is Snyder going to continue to make all these movies? MoS & BvS aren't critical darlings by any stretch. And if he does get replaced, when? And by who?

who knows? A lot depends on how this does at the BO. If it does well WB might just say fuck it and let him have Justice League. Hopefully we get someone fresh for Batman's solo flick though.
