I don't understand

even with snyder they still had time, source material, and dos and don'ts from Disney/Marvel

how can it be this bad

giphy.gif

The last thing they should be doing is following the Marvel playbook.

so their impressions are null and void now? seems to me that most people that have seen it so far have liked/loved it and critics are for the most part elitists that hold up their noses at any of these films.

Exactly this. From tv shows to movie reviews, i have never gave a shit about them. After all the critics are merely opinions, and i am not going to let my opinion of a movie get swayed because someone did not like it.

Took them 3 years to make this (apparent) crap?
Lmao. What the hell were they doing for 1.5 years of post production.

No MCU film has less than 66% on RT. So apparently the critics are only elitist toward this movie.

Or maybe this movie sucks. It's a conundrum.

Because oh my god that would be so much worse than what we have now

We have two films from the DCEU and both are from Snyder. I would hope that the DCEU develops it's own identity as it moves along with different writers and directors. I would rather not see the DCEU be MCU 2.0.

I remember the alternate universe where everyone loved Superman Returns.

superman's personality was fine in that movie. it's just there were a lot of other problems with it.

man of steel had that and a pretty vacant robot in the suit. also i gotta say any movie that somehow manages to make amy adams bland screwed something up. even david o russell got good shit out of her.

So the IMDB user rating page is fairly interesting to me:

Makes me wonder if all movies are as heavily male dominated, or just ones like this.

That breakdown is the perfect example of why Internet user opinions are worthless. What are the top ratings? 10 and 1. It's either a perfect movie or it's utterly irredeemable. There are plenty of movies that I absolutely hate that I will rate above a 1, and plenty of movies I love that aren't a 10. But the aggregate Internet voter? It's a binary system; 10, liked, 1, didn't like. That's literally over 90% of the ratings for this specific film at the moment, and it's the reason we can't trust aggregate user ratings for anything. Be better Internet people!

All the 10s and 1s should be dropped and the users who posted them should be monitored so if it's found that they only give max or min ratings, they get banned from rating and their opinions are no longer tallied in aggregate. If you think every movie you see is either perfect or worthless, your opinion is useless and you should keep it to yourself.

Note: I haven't seen the movie yet; I anticipated it would be poor (but not a 1, because that's balderdash).

I like how duckroll came in and told people to stop talking about other movies and the title's been changed 10 times, each time prompting people to post about whatever movie it gets compared to.

Lmao. What the hell were they doing for 1.5 years of post production.

Just by checking the news form last year: DC wasn't sure about what they want and how to do it. Then BvS went into production, but DC still wasn't sure. Suddenly they drop the JL scenes in the script and fuck the whole movie up. They figured out they'd mimic Marvel's universe, so they hit the panic button and tried to mix things up. They failed badly.

Young Einstein was a pretty great movie for the time, I resent the comparison.

It really is a shame that DC has apparently (haven't seen it yet) no idea what goes into making a good live-action comic book movie, when the animation departments have knocked it out of the park time and time again. Obviously extrapolating over to reality is harder, but you could reenact some of those animated movies with live actors, shot-for-shot, and seemingly have a much better product.

Is this movie actually bad?

I enjoyed all Nolan Batman films, and I thought Man of Steel was a blast.

I was kinda looking forward to this film too, despite the fact the trailers sucked ass.

it's scoring fairly closely to man of steel. if you enjoyed that a lot you'll prolly like this.

If you like really long movies with bad CGI (like The Hobbits) and horrible pacing and script issues, then it's for you.

Since we always do a "Eating Crow" Thread for Marvel movies, when they turn out sucessful, can we do a "Sorry. We should have believed you." Thread for this one?

Critics generally are either hating it or are left lukewarm. Fan screenings (including Gaf reactions) came off as generally fairly positive, if still mixed.

There is no way this movie is worse than Man of Steel.
At this point I'm expecting them to have put something in there that general critics didn't like.
Maybe something along the lines of Batman telling Superman to go fuck himself. Or superman straight up murdering people, in droves.
