Could Sony sell a PS5 Pro with disc drive included?

Maybe because gamers haven't moved an inch since the Xbox one failure and doing what they've done with the Pro is going to cost them at least two onion layers of their PS6 sales at launch if they repeat this situation.

At present I'm pretty sure the PS5 Pro is no where close to the aligned PS4 Pro sales in the UK, and with such a high launch price to disguise a massively bloated PS5 slim + Drive price they've boxed themselves in with the PS6 leaks/launch eating up their sales runway and killing PS5 pro hype IMO.

If they righted the wrong by doing a built-in disc drive, now they've still got a lot of other SKUs at the wrong prices for them to hit some belated momentum with a £549 price to offset the lost FOMO, and that change of price would also be a big issue for the early adopters that got taxed.

Personally I think they've completely botched the PS5 Pro release and potentially Xbox One'd the launch of the PS6 with the question mark of if the drive will be built-in for the PS6 OG.

I don’t think they fumbled as bad as xbox one. But on the other hand they are probabaly as eager as every other company to do away with physical copies.

I'm not so sure of my group of friends and wider friends that I've been gaming or talking gaming with for decades some of them bought Xbox Ones, and none of them as yet are buying a PS5 Pro, despite them all getting PS4 Pros, wanting PS5 Pros and balked at the price and the external disc drive, even though they don't buy as much physical now, it is the lack of default choice.

If PlayStation repeat the same situation with an integrated disc-drive not being the default SKU at PS6 launch, I'm pretty sure PS6 sales are going to be down significantly with earlier adopters IMO like xbox One was.

Owning something is never a relic of the past.

Unfortunately it soon will be for Xbox/PS. Not having to get up off their ass to change discs is apparently a better thing for many gamers than actually owning the software and pricing that benefits the consumer.

Nintendo will soon be alone in regards to physical software. In large part because Japan is far more important market for them than Sony/MS.

Owning what? finished games are not pressed into those discs, a lot of them won't even launch without a day 1 patch, even if they will, they'll have game breaking bugs or issues that will hamper the experience.

I would agree if games came complete on the disc, now they're just a Key.

You obviously have no clue what you are talking about. But this is nothing new for digital only fanboys.

fans of physical so insecure
market long term moved and money made elsewhere. so why grief part of your userbase, which can be big in some regions, when there are no real profit there?
physical will die the moment when it'll be no longer economically viable to support physical disk infrastructure

Even if discs were just a key (most of them contain full games) you can still sell it, borrow it or do whatever you want with it. You can't do shit with digital game.
