EA has announced it is restructuring Dragon Age and Mass Effect studio BioWare, moving a number of developers onto other projects within EA and focusing entirely on Mass Effect going forward.

In a blog post from general manager Gary McKay, he wrote that the studio is "taking this opportunity between full development cycles to reimagine how we work at BioWare."
"Given this stage of development, we don’t require support from the full studio," he continues. "We have incredible talent here at BioWare, and so we have worked diligently over the past few months to match many of our colleagues with other teams at EA that had open roles that were a strong fit."

IGN understands that EA has already placed an unknown number of developers from BioWare into other, equivalent roles within the company. A smaller number of Dragon Age team members are also seeing their roles terminated, and are being offered time to apply to other roles within the company if they so choose.

BioWare's structure has shifted repeatedly in recent years. The studio had a round of layoffs in 2023., and has seen a number of high-profile departures throughout the development of Dragon Age: The Veilguard, the most recent of which was director Corinne Busche announcing her departure from the studio last week. It is unclear how many individuals work at BioWare today. IGN asked EA for any comment or specifics on how many individuals at BioWare are being impacted by this change, how many are facing layoffs, and how many will remain at the studio.

I can't see this being out this generation.

I'm not sure I even care. Bioware hasn't released a real banger since ME2 in 2010. I have little hope this will be a return to form.

This exactly. I haven't been given a reason to care in 15 years. I gave up hope a long time ago.

I wish someone (who wasn't Bioware) would make an action RPG or shooter RPG styled after Star Trek. That seems like a really interesting formula that could be pretty cool.

Excellent news. I love Mass effect series. Hopefully this time it will not be another woke infested trans lecturing and misuse of gender pronoun. This will take some time, maybe it will launch in ps6 era.

That would be amazing. A Star Trek game like ME2, but where you can design your own ship and hire your crew.

Why hasn't somebody thought of this yet?

On the contrary, I think this will be better for the next Mass Effect. Mike Gamble has gathered a few of the old crew back like Preston Watamaniuk, Derek Watts, Parrish Ley. If they can work on the concept, main story, vibe etc in quiet before they bring the woke masses of devs, it might turn out to be a legit Mass Effect game with less influence from the degenerates.

I BELIEVE.

Gentlemen, we can rebuild it. We have the capability to make the world's first enhanced store. Steam will be that store. Better than it was before.
At first I was like "wait, there was a Mass Effect 4?"

Then I remembered that Andromeda exists. Then I was sad again realizing Bioware will never be the same as it once was.

People keep posting the papa EA pic, but people have been posting it about Bioware for a decade and yet they are still getting new chances.

I do think Mass Effect is their last chance. It will be very much sink or swim.

And I would not be surprised if they actually went 180 and did create great ME game with no DEI BS in it (and no, offering optional gay romance or featuring people of multiple ethnicities does not automatically equal DEI).

Mass effect :
get a great character creator & excellent writing.
Now choose between the following:
Me1 = rpg or Me2 = action rpg

Problem: chase ftp crowd aka younger wider market (Dei) and pray the Fortnite metaverse does not create an rpg or appease the original fans like myself (me2>me1>me3 (ending was ea)) and potentially be stuck with limited growth.

Conclusion: good luck
