They ever invited a pad player to Topanga?

He's the EVO champ and Topanga is a console tournament so it doesn't matter if he's a pad player. He's earned the right to be invited. Now it just depends if he can get off work for it. He's said in the past that this is the reason why he misses some events, and I mean within Europe.

Wonder what that was all about.

According to Smug, after the 5 v 5, the NLBC people realized how their infighting and drama is hurting their scene, and hurting their level of play. I think they all have a renewed focus to work together to build the NY Scene. The death of EMP might have a lot to do with it, but I don't know much about that r/kappa drama.

Louffy destroyed Ricky Ortiz last year in pools, and he also won against Wong @ Stunfest. Trust me, if Ricky had to fight against Louffy, he was already dead.

Eh...

Ricky has been on-point the last few months in a way I haven't seen him since maybe Super. Everyone is well practiced for Evo. I wouldn't call that a foregone conclusion at all considering the match-up.

Ricky probably had the best bet of anyone in top-8.

That was last year. Since then Ricky has had plenty of time to play that matchup against Filipinoman. Ricky plays a pretty different sort of Rufus than JWong. Actually, as far as I'm concerned Ricky is the better Rufus between the two. But I still feel like Justin is the better overall player, if that makes any sense. You're definitely sleeping on Ricky if you think Luffy would have had that free. And I say this as a fan of the dude's Rose for a real long time now.

Seem like Lil Evil felt Sanford wasn't helping the younger players and Sanford felt other wise.

Ah! very much appreciated, thank you guys.

I didn't know it was on console, would like to see him and Snake get an invite for the next one.

Sounds a lot like what happened with Marvel a while ago. Can't say it changed much TBH. Never bought into the whole rivalries vs. working together stuff. Different motivators for different people with not so significantly different results.

People complained about how Chris G wouldn't run sets with anyone and stuff so they eventually said fuck it and eventually stuff like the House of Crack emerged.

And it's not really cynicism, I'm just saying its sort of irrelevant, you usually have both in some capacity and it doesn't end up changing much in method or results.

Two of the NY Marvel players got top 8 and even more got top 64. Working on getting better rather than focusing on rivalries with the dude up the street is how a scene improves. Look at all the WNF players in top 64 at Evo, a year or two ago most would struggle to make it out of pools and now they're beating some of the best players in tournament play.

Edit: A scene where the top players help out each other and new players is going to produce better players than one where the top players are too busy fighting to improve the scene and their play.

House of crack been around way before Marvel 3 and this Chris G drama and to be fair Chris G afaik was at 8bit and up sessions consistently for a minute. The scene is pretty much fractured (example: people ONLY playing marvel at HoC nowadays) and you don't really know who these guys play with on a consistent basis to even assert that. All we have to go on here is arturo saying "The NYC scene is broken" and there's no reason to not take his word for especially looking at how the 5v5 went and looking at how WNF in general goes.

2011 top 8 Marvel 3 was the worst one and it was only saved because it had that absurd PRRog Tron comeback/LVL3 against Phoenix.

2/3 matches, sloppy play and just general Viscant domination over most of his opponents. Most matches were a blow up.

I used to think 2011 Marvel 3 top 8 was great back in 2011 but after seeing all the UMVC3 top 8s it just doesn't compare. Thank god for 3/5 Marvel.

2012 Champ vs Chris G and 2012 Champ vs Combofiend are probably my absolute favorites in top 8 matches in MVC3 Evo history,

Damn, I've been to 8-bit a few times. I still think they do weeklies on Sundays. Not too sure, been like 3 years since I last heard of it from a Honda player I used to play a lot with.

I agree I am way into the teamwork mentality. GGA has this attitude and it works. Our players will pick up secondaries and work on matchups not to beat each other in tournament but to gain matchup experience. Our players that didn't go to EVO grinded hard with those of us who went to prepare us. We had guys that couldn't go to EVO picking up new characters and playing them more than their main just to prepare us. We constantly coach and support each other at majors. We view our local as experience for majors and we don't play sets without discussing the strategies. I would not be as successful without the team.

It would take me personally 2 hours to get there and it's not in a great neighborhood.
I feel you. That's more or less how long it takes me to get to Next Level. Part of the reason why I can't motivate myself to make that trip more often. I've never been interested in HoC because I don't play Marvel. What neighborhood is it in?

How come you don't go to HoC? Too out of the way?

Kind of out of the way. It'd probably take me 30-40 minutes by train. Also, I haven't gone cause I've been working/studying like a horse for the past month.

It would take me personally 2 hours to get there and it's not in a great neighborhood.

And this, I forget which train passes by there but its not too safe. I'd rather play it safe and stick to the locals in my alma mater or go to NLBC every now and then. I might start going in August but probably just for that month.

Dead.

Edit:

I believe its in the Bronx near some street, keep on forgetting the damn name. Its near Dyckman if I'm not mistaken.
