In fact, I'm not a big fan of individual awards, because we can only win as a team in our sport. Therefore, I would like to thank the whole DFB-Team for cooperating extremely well in the past year. For me, this year with winning the Double with Bayern, the World Championship, the move to Real Madrid, the European Super Cup and winning the Club World Cup will always be a highlight in my career. The election of the National Player of the World Cup year 2014 and to be part of the uefa.com team of the year complements these great memories.

Sure in the grand scheme of things this is all just football so why bother watching games, buying jerseys, etc. Shouldn't your time and money be going to helping the world's poor instead?
