And that's not hyperbole. It's quite unbelievable how anyone at SMS ever thought the default pCARS pad settings were ready for launch. When one of my FFB wheels developed a shifting fault I switched to the pad for lols and it was pretty much unplayable. The bounce rate at launch must have been phenomenal as Joe Punter wondered what the fuck he had bought and quickly returned the game for a refund. I've heard it's possible to dial decent settings in (and the tuning variables are nicely comprehensive), but your average gamer might not have the first clue where to begin. All SMS ever had to do was emulate the feel of Forza's pad controls. They are nigh-on perfect.

Thank you! I honestly thought something was broken when I first started playing it. I couldn't believe how completely unplayable it was. And for all the things that Forza might get wrong, their pad controls are close to perfect. Between the haptic feedback on the triggers to just how good the analog controls feel, I have never played a game (besides GT) that felt that good to just pick up and play.

I have no idea how PCars could fuck it up so bad. Especially because everything else about the game is impressive! I am pretty pissed that I can't play it because the sound alone is some of the best in the industry.

All of those are still purchaseable in-game right?

What was the site to track your reward progress again?

Yup, all those cars can be purchased normally, they just give you them for free as rewards.

And here is where I pulled that list, but I think the Forza Hub will tell you what you are expecting in Forza 6.

I keep getting "There was a problem retrieving your account information from Xbox LIVE. Please sign out and try again. Make sure to give Forza Motorsport permission to access your account information." when trying to look at my rewards progress. Anyone else getting this?

What's ironic is Shift 1, 2, and FRL were the same way. They all took some serious tweaking to get decent controls with the pad. pCARS took me quite a while to dial in too.

And I still think somethings is off with the road cars, they're so twitchy and prone to easily over-snap out of corners.

But the GT3 and LMP cars, oh, a slice of racing heaven for me.
They handle so, so good.

The game has been patched 3 times, a lot of things have been ironed out. I believe the Xbox One version had additional pad input problems the Ps4 didn't originally. The controls for the Xbox were one of the first things patched if I remember correctly.

Well, it launched undercooked with a hat full of problems (especially on Bone) and even three patches later it's still got issues. But out on the track it's amazing, nothing short of thrilling, especially in MP GT races with a bunch of like-minded folk. A lot of people lost patience a long time ago though, and with FM6 just around the corner I can see Bone player numbers falling off a cliff.

Edit: ninja'd by James!

I was thinking about trading it toward Mad Max but now I am curious if I should give it another try. Is it worth trying to fight through the controls now that it has been patched? Or should I just give up on it and enjoy Mad Max and Forza? lol

Get some pad setting recommendations (from James or Danowat) and give it a go. It depends how serious a race game experience you're after. FM6 will undoubtedly be the grander, more polished product so that will probably eat up most of your time, especially with ForzaGAF, but you might find you've got room for both titles.

And DAYUM, son (you too, James) - get a FFB wheel!

Has it been confirmed if we will be able to save steering rotation angle for each car? Would be nice if they provided the stock angle for each car as well.

I have had this happen quite a few times & it seems to be getting worse, the best way to check is via the Forza HUB app on the Xbox.

Man, I want one so bad. But if I am going to get one, it is going to be a good one. And right now I can't quite justify the $600 or so it would cost to get a really nice setup.

Plus I will have my M3 back soon, so that is currently taking all the money I have.

I knew this game was going to be behind the curve in the graphics dept. With PCars and DriveClub, I don't understand how Turn 10 thinks this will fly.

I played the demo, and while its serviceable, I wanted more in the graphics dept.

I played project cars on Xbox one and it was a jaggie mess to be honest.. also didn't like the driving mechanics. I loved the Forza 6 demo, best rain experience yet in a driving game imo. And I think the graphics are better on forza6 than pcars.

I'd give it another shot if I were you, there's plenty of control schemes online that you could try to dial in. Like I said, the 3 patches ironed out quite a bit. But, as Mascot pointed out, it's still got issues.

It might be fun to pop it in as a comparison/companion to Fm6, test out the same cars and tracks. Then mess with the weather and time in pCARS.

Or just stick with Forza, you know you'll get plenty of enjoyment out of that without the frustration of time wasted in settings and menus.

Personally, I love it, it makes me feel like a GT3 driver with proper race weekends, which is all I've wanted out a racing game for years.

Edit- Oh I'd love a nice wheel and rig, but trying to get the wife to sign off on with two new cars, a new house, a new baby, and 2 year old? Yeah, not so much.

I didn't either. I hated it actually. I hate Drive Clubs mechanics to be honest. I just like the graphics better.

Damage model is still a joke though... take the Inducer showcase event. Even when set to simulation you can just ram head on into the wall and barely anything happens to your car... no flying parts... handling is affected only after multiple hits etc

Sure! I'm not getting the early-release version, so you may have to test the cars for me to make sure PI600 is still viable.

Right on man, PM a list of the cars that we would be running and I will do some tests when the game unlocks. I already took Thursday off of work so I will have plenty of time to check them out.

Really? I was just sideswiped by another car during that race and it did pretty legit damage. Are you sure you had it on Sim damage?

Btw, does anyone know if you can manually turn on/off the lights/wipers during the actual races? I would love to be able to flash my lights at cars during the night races.

Check your settings and ensure the damage was set to simulation. I touched wheels, spun and bit the wall hard. I couldn't finish the race as my car would barely move after that. The visual damage does have some limits as you won't see major pieces fly off but mechanically you can have a variety of damage occur.

Welp, I just finished the demo.

Lately it's been really hard for me to get into any kind of racing game and it had been bumming me out. I bought Forza 5 and as hard as I tried I just couldn't get into it, nor could I get into horizon. I have to say. Forza 6 is the most fun I've had racing since PGR. I mean, I still have an adrenaline rush. I usually don't get that feeling unless I'm playing halo competitively. The driving just feels so tight and so right. Racing in the wet is actually thrilling and not just something for show. I mean it doesn't just look good, it feels good. I'ts the first time in a while that I've been happy about a racing game and not just excited.

Also, sure in stills it looks a little rougher than others (not bad by any means) but when you start racing and having fun you quickly don't even notice it at all. In the heat of the moment all you care about is how good it feels and it feels amazing.

Had the same debate with myself last year when I picked up a TX wheel for FH2. I had never actually used a FFB wheel before other than a short stink at an arcade at the movies many years back. So I didn't really know what to expect or what I would be missing out on had I gone for the 458 wheel.

Watched many youtube videos and read reviews of people using FFB wheels and decided it was worth the expense. Without a doubt I made the right choice. What actually makes the experience so cool is the variations in vibration and force feedback that combine together simulate so many driving conditions. It simulates the rough rocks, hill, and jumps of FH2 just as well as the tire squeals and wet conditions of Forza6. Best game peripheral decision. ever.

thanks so much for the opinions... appreciated...

might pull the trigger

Doesn't Project CARS run like crap on Xbox and has a million different graphic settings that have undefined effects on the framerate?

People on NeoGAF always talk about 60fps and solid framerates and all that while seemingly not understanding that it's not free. If Turn 10 wanted the unstable framerate and 900p of PCars then they could have the graphics of PCars.

I had a G27 or whatever and it was fantastic. I sold it because I didn't have room and I still don't, really. Hopefully soon I can get back on board with that.

Yup. Those are shitty comparisons considering that Forza 6 runs at 60fps at 1080P. It is what makes me consider that Comparison Thread as pointless bullshit from console warriors. Seriously, why does anyone care that much that they feel the need to have an entire goddam thread for it?

It is like those people who come in here just to talk about how shitty the game is. The crazy thing is when I am not interested in a game, I just don't fuckin talk about it. I guess I just don't understand some of the "forum culture" that exists around here.

20?

Heck, how many times does 3k-4k go into 5 million.

I'll have the "own 300 cars" on launch day X-D

I miss PGR too, haha.

Surely on Dreamcast it was MSR ;)

is Ultimate Early release only State side? I didn't see anything about early release here or did you have to preorder before a specific date?

Soooo...

As a cheap fella, who has never really played online - what exactly is ForzaGAF all about?

Are you just racing 'randomly' against other Gaffers who happen to be online on your friendlist?

Well, we had an overall league, spec/model races, teams of 2 races last time IIRC - all documented for the jury to deem who crashed into who :p

So it's not legal to use the others as barriers?

That sounds really pleasing. I've spent 15-20 hours playing with my buddy after getting FM5, and he's driving like that, while using the rewind-button constantly. Kinda irks me!

But it does sound like fun. Guess I'll have to go gold and play with you Guys, although I'll be last in every single race ;D

I thought it was for everyone but I honestly don't know. It should say something about it when you check it out in the store or in the Forza Hub.

We have a good time when we race. We don't take it super seriously, but we also try to race as cleanly as we can. But you do need to watch out for the Canadians, they always seem to be up to something.

We always try to have the "real" races first and then we throw in some fun races, so there tends to be a good mix.

At least they have the decency to apologize afterwards!

Which timezone are you guys in? Canada/US mostly?

I'm impressed with the demo even if the night race was a bit of a disappointment, the wet weather race on the other hand was glorious. Just gotta decide what version of the game to get.

I noticed that the first position car and sometimes second position car seem to be miles in front in a few of the races I did, Forza 5 did similar and I'd hoped that it wouldn't carry over but it looks like it has.

Forza 6 vs Driveclub....lolz

What a funny ppl we have here...Tunnel arcade racing vs driving simulation...Really ?

Might eventually pick up a wheel for this game and DiRT Rally on PC. Is the Thrustmaster TX the 'entry-level' wheel of choice? I seem to hear a lot of good stuff about it

Theyre using the same data for drivatars, so we'll see the same behavior.

Rain race was fun, but the indycar race was really disappointing. Super easy and never really felt on the edge despite flat out the whole time. But I play lots of open wheel in pcars and f1, so the sense of speed wasn't anything new for me.

Some photos from the Forza 6 demo! Awesome game =)

only thing which ruins the yellow car image is the water drop texture is an obvious looped texture, and the water drops are a little too big overall for water beads on a car.

I noticed the water thing before but that picture rubs me the wrong way, they are just too big.

I wonder if it's on purpose for something to do with the distance of the normal chase cam? Maybe realistic sized ones would show up weird with the chase cam or something like that.

Im really impressed with the wet weather driving. Turn 10 have nailed it.

AI seems better too.
But damn, the collision sounds are weird.

They still can't get the windshields right. Compare the car selection screen car pics against ingame...

heh i like the collision sounds but then again i play with headphones and the old sound was horrible. that crash crunch fake ching sound was horrible this actually sounds to me what a carbon fiber car sounds like when hitting a wall.

it was way too annoying in the old version
