Graphical Fidelity I Expect This Gen

From my sister thread on ResetEra,

“Alanah Pearce has heard from devs who have seen Witcher 4's current build being played that game does look like a trailer.

Different thing if it stays there, or has to scale back on graphics to meet performance goals.”

“Watching Alanah Pierce on stream right now and she says she knows people who have played a build of The Witcher 4 and it apparently looks as good as the trailer. Just an anecdote but it gives me hope.”
Lets put it this way, i saw that allanah pearce, her assets are tons of make up put on the face and 2 decent size titties, not to mention she has incentive to lie about it too, so 0 credibility ;)

CDPR has long history of bullshot trailers, so till we actually see gameplay, played by techsavy ppl, we cant trust that launch game will look anywhere close, and yup, in allannah eyes footage might look similar while in actuallity its 30-40-50% worse from the trailer.

Maybe game gonna look like that on next gen consoles in 2028-2029, but definitely not on current gen ones, including ps5pr0.
We all remember how cp2077 looked on base ps4 and xbox one s, and it ran even worse too, vs how the cp2077 trailers looked like, so i advise every1 to stay relatively pessimistic here, at least on how witcher4 gonna look on current gen consoles.
Maybe brand new 2k usd 5090 can run w4 at max(or rather .ini file max)settings (that could match the trailer)in 4k 20 to 30fps, but its big maybe.

Decent size? Her boobs are huge. Most women have smaller boobs.

Witcher 4 trailer was prerendered footage so if what you care about is actual graphics comparison, wait 6-12 months for the actual gameplay footage. PS5 Pro is quite a bit faster than og PS5 but CDPR isn't going to go back and patch Witcher 3 and CP2077 properly. Their resources are going to Witcher 4 and CP2077 sequel. It's just "wasted" money just to benefit Pro owners. They can most certainly afford to do it, but the higher ups probably said no.

W4 trailer has HB2 quality, top current UE5 game. Of course HB2 is super linear and limited and W4 will be open world.

Trailer was prendered but they say it's using in game assets. Kinda like some MGS4 cutscenes (Ocelot on Prague river), when I played the game I didn't know some cutscenes were prerendered.

Of course game won't look like this on PS5/XSX and even Pro, no way. But on PC? Why not? They already put graphics modes in their games that kill 90% of current GPUs.

With TW3 they bullshited very hard, but with CP they were much more honest and final game looks better in most places than what they showed in 2018 outside of crowd density:

And this is retail version without PT.

Yups, definitely in the 1% of boob size even if we count in boob jobs, im an ass guy so im ok with any size boobies ;p.
And yeh hopefully in a 1-2years we get gameplay so we can get proper estimate of what can be expected visuals wise from w4.

About cp2077 and w3 pr0 patches, i think if sony wasnt stupid with the price(not talking US price, 700$ for person earning in usd is nothing, around the world ps5pr0 price is skyhigh, for example in my country including disc drive its close to 1200usd, and our salaries are 4-5x lower ;) and we had potential for more ps5pr0 users- cdpr would do smart thing and patch both games, otherwise 0 point for them, it simply doesnt make financial sense, unless sony themselfs pays for it.

Why would I be kidding? Please dont tell me you are considering prerendered cutscene as "gameplay graphics" That is not at all what the actual game looks like. Same as people here using Uncharted 4 and TLOU 2 facial animations but only picking cutscene shots...take a screenshot of the same character and it has half the detail and facial features. So no, i don't see what the big deal is about it because nothing in this screenshot tells me "omg game of the generation, it will be talked about for decades like we do about Crysis".

This is an actual screenshot representative of the overal look of the game:
xt6F0fR.jpeg

This is definately not a real gameplay screenshot. Just because you can pause it in photo mode, doesnt make it "gameplay". Its a rendered scene, pre calculated, cant change a thign about it, has to play out the way it was programmed and cant interract with it. Stop saying cutscenes are representing actual game graphics.

Who said anything about cutscenes? Overall, Hellblade 2 is the graphics king. Polycount, lighting, environments, character models. Nothing else looks almost CGI like this besides like 4 other games and one of them is on PS4 (The Order 1886)…

Next gen graphical fidelty has arrived here with Star Citizen's Alpha 4.0 update. I expect graphics like this from PS6 next gen or I will be disappointed. These are all my personal screenshots I took while playing the game, truly insane graphics to witness in person, the shots don't do the game enough justice....

I have a bit too much backlog now but hoping to try it out after holidays when there's a couple patches in

From what I hear, it's been mighty fine for now with server meshing. It'll be interesting to see at which point it will fail and inevitable since its the first "live" stress test. It's why I'm waiting a few patches in.

Dat dynamic cloud system at planetary scale, imagine when the dynamic weather will come in, it'll be even better.

Can't wait for my first pyro jump. They've smoothed it out so much compared to a few weeks ago.

Looks crazy - although in second clip the clouds on the planet look weird.

I wonder if with this and flight sim - we are inching closer to an engine that can literally simulate an entire solar system from space to ground seamlessly

Yeah HB2 clearly has the best graphics by a wide margin, it does have gameplay too as much as I shit on it. It’s not like completely interactive cutscenes - it was made by a small team too so I’m sure that was a limiting factor

They targeted 1080p 30 fps on the 1080 Ti for cyberpunk. Ended up delivering 1440p 30 with Rt shadows on the ps5 which is basically a 1080Ti with RT support.

the good thing is that they are using UE5 which scales very well on consoles and PCs. Most UE5 games are 1440p 30 fps. its their 60 fps modes that are rough because of UE5.1's CPU bottlenecks that have since been resolved. they have also improved performance of both software and hardware lumen on consoles. I think it will be 1296p-1440p 30 fps on base ps5, and uses hardware lumen on the ps5 pro.

the fancy path traced graphics we saw are likely for 5080s and 5090s. Not 6090, let alone 7090. I dont think this game is 4+ years away. Likely a holiday 2026 title that might get delayed to march like most games do. And next gen consoles arent coming until 2028. i think sony will delay it a year because it costs too much and AMD's far behind the AI stuff that nvidia will be showcasing on the 5090. Cerny said they are only just now partnering up with AMD so the ps6 is likely 4 years away.

The trailer clearly indicates that Nvidia are the partners. So depending on the release of this game they will have their affiliated marketing with their latest card during that time. You could be right about performance, may be Pro can run this at 40fps as well. I am overestimating this game gfx going by pre rendered trailer and 2027 release date where the next Xbox could release. It's perofrmance in line with BMW and HB2 is possible I guess. Since this is proper AAA project with more skilled dev team, may be they can pull this off.

Yea, I think it depends on settings too, the clouds are demanding. They're still working on it too and eventually with dynamic weather. They look a bit too cotton ball as of now, but eventually they'll merge into weather storms

When that is in, you almost have a flight sim system at solar scale.

As for the engine that can simulate an entire solar system from space to ground seamlessly, that's what it is currently in Star Citizen. It's seamless from planet to planet, space to planet, to stations to bunkers, to caves etc. It still has places to improve graphically, they are working on implementing RTGI everywhere with a software version of it ala Lumen, but tech wise, it's the most interesting engine out there for sure, the scale of it all it mind blowing.

Yeah I just mean at like full fidelity - with all the cities like flight sim. Like a realtime earth simulator almost. Cus from what I can tell there aren’t many cities in star citizen? Perhaps I’m wrong tho. That would be my dream if they pull it off.

I see what you mean, full fidelity is close but probably down the line in a few years

Star Citizen has a planet where almost all the surface is a city

And an industrial very Blade Runner esque end of the world one

You have a hub to walk around in and can't go everywhere... but the idea eventually is that you'll be able to have an apartment and be physically located in the city, with markets, etc.

The engine has the tech for infinite cities, as they refine the algorithms, use AI (ala MS flight sim) for more organic placements of structures. They are adding biomes such as swamps, jungles, etc, they'll eventually get a huge diversity to mimic a sci-fi Earth.

If it's not them that pull it off, someone will inevitably in our lifetime.

It's part of the Fermi Paradox, why we don't see Aliens everywhere yet? Because when you get to the point of simulating the universe in fine grain details, what's the purpose of fueling up a ship and explore for thousands and thousands of years when you can quick load anywhere accurately enough :)

Anyway, don't want to hijack thread with Star Citizen discussions..

Watching the developer interview with Machine games and their developer's answers are making me angry. they themselves say that the non-Path traced Rtgi results in floaty objects in the environments. He calls it night and day. And I agree. What im playing is nothing like Ravion's incredible shots. And the biggest change seems to be RTAO and RT shadows. Why arent they enabled in the basic RT mode?

I mean they are targeting 1800p 60 fps on the xsx. I can run the game at native 4k DLAA on my 3080. Just let me turn on RTAO and RT shadows ffs. I would rather drop to DLSS performance or balanced to get better looking objects in the game that dont look floaty like they did in the ps3 era.

Honestly, this is embarrassing because RTGI is supposed to come with RTAO and ground the objects.

This is incredible. You can make a game that could feasibly switch genres naturally, just like in real life — I wonder if anyone else will use this engine.

Cutscenes though...real time yes but games never look as good in actual gameplay
this is true but Hellblade 2 is the closest we've come to matching cutscene quality since the order 1886.

All the fancy effects you expect in cutscenes are present during gameplay. Only the cutscene models are downgraded a bit but are still leagues ahead of everything else out there. Everything from lighting to level of detail and volumetric effects are godly and again, are in a completely different league compared to other games. The other guy was like its been done before in other games, and thats just not true. Hellblade 2 stands alone.

I rag on the game all the time, but there is no denying that graphically speaking it's the best looking game of all time.

Makes no sense to me that they wouldn't give PC players that option at the very least ....but even the SX should have a mode that let's you drop resolution a bit to get RTAO ...

Let me ask ...did Digital Foundry even ask them why they chose to not allow PC these options? It's such an obvious question to ask but im guessing in typical DF fashion they were too "polite" to ask ....

no, the only question he asked was why PT mode didnt have point/contact shadows. they said they ran out of time.

the RTGI tech was developed by ID Tech and they incorporated it into their game. There was an nvidia rep there so im guessing the PT tech was added by Nvidia and nvidia didnt want to help them with anything else.

It's gonna be so good once they get dynamic weather in. The planets already looks so good with the dynamic clouds, best clouds I've ever seen in a game :messenger_savoring:

I took some more pics on Pyro 4 and watching the clouds move realistically is so mesmerizing.

I think with the 50-series reveal and we finally get to see the latest DLSS developments & their new Neural Rendering, it’ll give us an idea of what the PS6 & Next Xbox will be like, especially since Cerny stressed that AI rendering algorithms are where we’ll see “quantum leaps” in rendering, this brings to mind when Microsoft briefly talked about the next Xbox in one of their podcasts that it’ll bring the “largest technical leap ever”, I know this might be PR talks & all that & I’m trying to make connections which are not much in the grand scheme of things, but still something to think about.

If you wanna see the future of graphics, and being able to try it out, now? It’s the 50-series CES reveal for sure!

Looks like shit, and always did thanks to terrible image quality (CA and ton of other "cinematic" bullshit + black bars). Game has decent models and materials (and good art) but textures are low res.

It looks good on gifs and tiny images.
Textures are low res?
Order 1886 uses 2K res textures (with UDIMs)
Sorry to break it to you but modern games are still using 2K textures most of the time. They just happen to look worse than the ones in Order 1886 often, due to lack of time, less skilled devs, etc x)

I dunno Bojii, shitting on solid looking in game footage from a 9 year old game a few posts after praising a fake CGI trailer seems pretty asinine

It's prerendered using in game assets. Not comparable to complete CGI trailers.

In the meantime Order always looked like soup on screen.

They can say they are 2k, 4k or 8k. It doesn't matter when textures look low res.

The Order is one of those games that was always overhyped when it comes to gfx. How can I even see if graphics is good when IQ is dogshit? I just played it five minutes ago to remind myself how it looks...

True, the game has the most terrible iq i ever seen in a big budget game.
Not sure about the texture being low res but the game look super soft.

They had to pay a price for that type of graphic.

You almost can’t have photo realistic graphics without ca and other effects. You turn these off in re4 and the game starts looking too raw.
Always the same guys repeating shit about ca and motion blur. I suppose you were burned by motion blur in gta3 and still disable it in games.

Per object motion blur is awesome, other types usually look crappy to me unless you're at 30fps and need any smoothing you can get.

I feel they might be showing that trailer again but in real-time this time at Nvidia's 50-series reveal, that "Pre-rendered on an unannounced RTX GPU" disclaimer felt like there's more to it than that, they'll show how there isn't a difference between that pre-rendered & real-time one using the DLSS that we already have plus its upcoming one, which is DLSS 4, because that pre-rendered trailer looked very doable in real-time, on a high-end PC of course, there were some effects like smoke/fog effects & motion blur that looked too expensive for real-time, but that's about it, everything else, while looking unbelievably jaw-dropping, looks doable, we already have Hellblade 2 which I'd argue, looks just as good in many areas and has much better character models than Ciri here.

But hey, the game won't come out until maybe 2027, by that time, we'd already have RTX 6090 out, so by that time PCs will be much stronger, also even if that was real-time, I still have doubts about the feasibility of all that to be rendered in an open-world while maintaining the same graphical quality consistently, that wouldn't be hard for high-end PCs of 2027/2028, it would be hard for the development team, it'd be too time-consuming, or maybe that is one of UE5's strengths which is Nanite/PathTracing/Lumen/MetaHumans that can let you achieve these visuals more consistently, the old PS5 2020 Demo & Matrix Awakens demo prove that, they have a 100% consistency when it comes to graphical quality.

But who knows, maybe I'm reading too much into this disclaimer that I've mentioned above, we'll see.

What happened to the backdrop? Why is the background borderline black? Oh wait its because its a cinematic moment and almost nothing but the 2 characters is loading during this scene. Do you see what Im talking about? Why do we get downgrades after teasers? Because developers realize they cant push this on the whole game when theres millions of other calculations going on and taking up resources. Which is exactly why in your example, they literally shut everything off to let only the 2 characters shine to the max. ANYONE can do that, the reason they dont is because people arent making linear, tiny worlds with invisible walls, and short length.

So again, even though this is from a fight scene, it is so touched up and made up just for this one moment. Take a proper screenshot, theres many good looking areas like the caves, go to photo mode and take a screenshot and show me where the game looks "unbelievable" or best looking this generation. You wont come even close to the screenshots you just posted because there, they need to drop the quality to be able to run all the other stuff going on in the background. Stop the cap, you guys are comical. The above screenshots do not represent the overall look of the whole game. Stop cherry picking tiny areas and cutscenes.

Stop cherry picking tiny areas and cuitscenes.
For me hellblade 2 is best looking game but on PC only, on consoles other games like horizon, wukong and Avatar come ahead of it, also I am 100% agree with that it shine in specific conditions , same as the order in ps4 and beyond two souls in ps3 they looks better than all ps4&ps3 games but on other side all gamers and media consider games like uncharted, god of war , rdr2 and the last of us as the graphics kings for those generations because they have good graphics considering they gameplay mechanics, playable areas and game actual resolution which is low in games like hb2, the order compared to the other games and whatever anyone say actual resolution affect the lQ of any game.

You almost can’t have photo realistic graphics without ca and other effects. You turn these off in re4 and the game starts looking too raw.
Always the same guys repeating shit about ca and motion blur. I suppose you were burned by motion blur in gta3 and still disable it in games.

CA is a FLAW, film creators combat it for XX years:

The failure of a camera lens to focus each of white light’s different wavelengths onto the same focal point may lead to blue-yellow, red-green, or magenta-purple fringing. This is due to the refractive index of glass; various wavelengths of light travel through the lens at different speeds, making it difficult for some lenses to focus each hue on the same focal plane.

How often do you see it in modern 4k movies? I don't think very often unless they are stylized - they are removing this bullshit because most people don't like it. It also destroys tiny details, what's the point of high resolution with this shit on screen?

It fucks me up that developers are so obsessed with this flaw of camera tech. CA also breaks immersion, it tells players that there is physical camera floating behind players character.

In The Order developers tried every bullshit effect to fuck up image quality as far as possible.

Lol I know what CA is. Why would you even think to lecture me? I am not 7 ffs.
Without ca, the image is often just too sharp. You can use other techniques than CA but the RAW, SHARP video games look is very video gamey.

If you like soup on screen just lower the resolution lol. I can't comprehend how you can say that games (especially with things like TAA) are too sharp.

I don't have problem with CA as long as it's optional, "artsy" devs that force this shit can go fuck themselves.

It's that raw look makes me think more of a video game. I don't exactly want my games blurry either.

I am replaying Kingdom Come Deliverance and the game still looks absolutely incredible. I wished more companies would use this engine. I cant wait for KD2

Crytek? Yea, I too wish it had remained financially viable and created more iterations of the engine. It would be a strong contender for best engine nowadays I would think. Can't wait to see what they're cooking for Crysis 4. It has to melt PCs, its tradition.
