The masses care about the price because they buy this to give to their kids so they don't have to spend time with them. The only argument that matters is the price : the lower the better. They won't buy a more expensive model.

If that was the case the Switch Lite would be the best selling model, when in fact, the more expensive Switch is selling far better. The fact is premium models tend to sell the best.

I guess time will tell though right? We can revisit this thread when the OLED is still sold out 6 months from release and on its way to fully replacing the current Switch.

Why would it be foolish to upgrade to a much better screen and speakers if you primarily play undocked and could get a significant return investment on an OG Switch model? It would be foolish not to upgrade.

And it's arguably still the best handheld screen of all time. So Switch getting one is kind of a big deal, especially since the Switch one will likely be quite a bit better.

Not all OLED screens are alike ofc but my experience of my new mobile phone, which is the first one I've had with an OLED screen and its amazing in every way except the brightness is not good enough for viewing the screen in the sun at all, I could barely see anything even at max brightness, compared to the (comparably in terms of contrast and such) crap LCD screen on my 2014 Samsung where it could easily be seen.

So I would think that could potentially be a problem for people who live in places where its bright and sunny a lot (not so much a problem in Scotland lol) vs. the old Switch screen. Although I've never even used my old Switch in the sun to know whether its bright enough to overcome the bright sunlight.

How is people experiences playing current Switch model in the sun?

The only impression that matters is whether or not the dock still scratches the screen. If it does then paying 50$ for a screen likely to experience burn-in seems even more like a ripoff than it already does.

I’ve also got a first revision switch and it overheats on some games. I’ve been told I should just open it up and clean it out but we are an adult only household with no dogs/cats…

I'm not defending them but increasing contrast does increase perceived sharpness on a display, especially with high contrast edges, so maybe that offsets the loss of sharpness from a bigger screen/lower ppi.

I've seen plenty of 65" OLED next to 55" LCDs looking sharper, even though the image processing is mostly the same (See LG "Nano" LCDs vs. their OLEDs), we should wait for side by side comparisons from respected tech people but even then you'll have to go with their word.

Excellent question at the end... and it should have been a HUGE YES, announced WITH the model... and supported for TV across the entire console range. Maybe they could have even implemented an "Auto HDR" feature like Xbox. I know I'm asking too much of Nintendo to put in some effort.

Yup pretty much hypocrite gaf in full swing. Apparently a 720p screen was super shit until the gabegear announced it was going to have one then it's totally fine now, same with fps apparently anything under 60 was pathetic and now 30fps is totally fine. Guessing oled would be totally amazing if nintendo hadn't used one but because they did it's obviously shit and outdated tech.

If you're a 100% docked user like me, there is literally zero reason to upgrade to this model.

If you don't own a Switch at all and you will be either a pure docked user or a mix, then yes, this new one is a no brainer.

Ok I'm not the only one who feels this way then I guess. It's an uncomfortable device to hold for any extended period of time. I find myself using my pinkie fingers as a sort of cradle just to hold the thing. The shoulder buttons feel wonky to use as well. It just doesn't feel that great.

Obviously picture perfect OLED contrast is going to make things look dramatically more vivid and even sharper than the Switch's former kinda shitty screen.
