IGN: What to Expect From Nintendo in 2025

It will be very interesting to see what the first and second year 1st party titles are. I do not think it is what people have rumored.

Also, the one thing no one is mentioning. Nintendo will not be able to make new games in every IP that Switch received due to the length of dev time. SO…

What games will be getting “Deluxe” versions as opposed to getting full new titles. I think Splatoon, ARMS, Xeno 2, 3, X, and possibly Smash as the likely Deluxe games this gen.

Arms might get a port instead of a sequel, but don't see anyway there isn't new Xenoblade, Smash and Splatoon on Switch 2.

Longer dev times can be offset by Nintendo's big internal and external expansion (we've seen some examples of this on Switch already from the external side).

I'm so ready for Switch 2. I love the Switch but my god does it start to feel long in the tooth. Comparing it to my ROG Ally X it's downright ancient. I'm also incredibly excited for Metroid Prime 4. That is gonna be a banger of a launch title.

Same. Splatoon 4 in particular sounds like a good contender for a new cross-gen title to me with a souped up Switch 2 version of the game and Switch 1/Switch 2 cross-play.

It's one of Nintendo's biggest IPs. But I'm not sure it will be cross gen.

S2 and S3 were already quite similar. They should make 4 stand out more.

Oh I have some more theories on what's coming. I think we'll finally see Switch ports of the following
  • Metroid Prime 2
  • Metroid Prime 3
  • The Legend of Zelda: Wind Waker HD
  • The Legend of Zelda: Twilight Princess HD

People forget how closely tied to the Wii control scheme and sensor bar Metroid Prime 3 is. It's not a GameCube port like 1 and 2 are. They will need to completely re-do the ENTIRE game in order to port it to the Switch. Star Fox Zero has the same problem, but with the Wii U contorller.

I fully agree and definitely hope they do something to shake it up more. I want as many non cross-gen games as possible personally.

And I guess Mario Kart 9 will be out before a 4th installment so I guess that’ll be more than enough to drive online play/subscription engagement.

hey fuck you man

i want my gen 1 remake. :*(
i actually really enjoyed Let's Go Pikachu.

but i want a new Gold/Silver remake. HG/SS is probably my favourite Pokemon game but would love one with 3d visuals. i'd be happy with another 2d game but with some QoL changes and new gameplay mechanics.

Sorry I am out of the loop, but does anyone know if Switch 2 will be backwards compatible with Switch 1 games or is it just rumours right now?

Boring. I hope not. They’ve been doing this for like 2 years to stretch out the switch but I really hope that they’re not going to keep doing it especially with new hardware.

Given the popularity of the Switch and full BC of Switch games on the Switch 2, they’d be hard pressed to make ‘Deluxe’ versions of Switch titles.

Definitely getting new numbered entries for the likes of Mario Kart and Smash

I want a big, fat Mario. He uses a fork to scratch his back, and that's a gameplay mechanic.

No, but get some licenses out of the closet and make a Ring Fit Adventure 2.

2024 was one of the worst year for Nintendo’s output. Like dreadful.

I imagine they kept everything for Switch 2

Nothing will ever be worse than Holiday 2015 from Nintendo:

That whole year was horrific for the Wii U, with the single exception of Spatoon:

  • Animal Crossing: amiibo Festival
  • Art Academy: Home Studio
  • Devil’s Third
  • Fatal Frame: Maiden of Black Water [Also known as Project Zero: Maiden of Black Water]
  • Kirby and the Rainbow Curse [Also known as Kirby and the Rainbow Paintbrush]
  • Mario Party 10
  • Mario Tennis Ultra Smash (2015 for Japan)
  • Pokkén Tournament (2015 for Japan)
  • Super Mario Maker
  • Splatoon
  • Tokyo Mirage Sessions #FE (2015 for Japan)
  • Xenoblade Chronicles X
  • Yoshi’s Woolly World

You can’t have Xenoblade Chronicles X & Splatoon on that list and call it a worst year than 2024

You're right but remember, we were starving for games in 2015; at least in 2024 you can play all the 2023 bangers.

Ultra Smash broke me 😭

Edit - MP 10 and AC Festival also broke me, but not as hard.

It's not much stronger but more sophisticated as a console, opps!!! It might be the natural enemy of the Xbox hybrid console, at least they must not repeat all handheld pcs mistakes.

I see a MK9 coming within the first 12 months. But Splatoon 4 will be a couple of years away.
But they didn't say to what extent.
What do you mean by "extent"

Wasn't Mario Maker quite successful for a Wii U game?

Definitely, around +4M, only 1M less than Splatoon. Mario Party 10 also did fairly well at +2M.

But in terms of quality I can’t really say MP10 deserved that. It’s been a long time since I played it now, but from what I can recall it was one of the worst Mario Party games I’ve played.
