I'm sure people have, but there are over 50 million Xbox 360s sold, I have a very hard time believing any significant portion of them were people who rebought one after their 360 broke. Especially since there was a three-year warranty on said RROD capable models.
Yeah but it still runs out. Infact by now the majority of affected models warrenties will have ran out, since it was mainly the launch model which were severely affected.

I had to buy a new 360 at the start of last year because my Xbox RROD'd and my 3 year warrenty had ran out.

Were you seriously having your identity/CC used/stolen?

My email password is different than the password I used for PSN with that same email.

Those are the only 2 things linked that a person who hacked PSN would have access too. If you see activity on your CC, call your bank/credit provider...

PSN hack didn't really affect me, certainly not in the way people try to blow it up to be.

Psn hack made me lose access to the email associated with that. With that account they got my Amazon, newegg, steam, gamefly, facebook, twitter, netflix, bank of america, itunes login/password.

I couldn't get that email back because the "emergency" backup email was an old school email that was purged from the servers with other accounts belonging to people who no longer attend.

Also got flamed to hell and back when I mentioned this happening to me as if I was running into Sony headquarters and stabbing people or something.

The warranty just makes them fix it for free. If you RROD it now and it expired you pay them for it, you never NEED to buy a new console. You can probably bitch at them enough to get it for free anyway.

Eh, not really. Tier 1 Agents don't really have any real power.

£80 to get a refurbished console with a good chance of the same problem happening again? No thanks.

Got a new console for £105 instead.

People really love their 360 games and XBL :S

Or people have invested enough money in their 360 game library to make them buy a new 360 rather than a PS3. If I cared about online gamin, and Sony for some reason were to ban my PS3, I wouldn't buy a 360, I'd just buy a new PS3.

He's an idiot

he's not an idiot. He couldn't prove/was too lazy to prove that his console wasn't modded and as he wanted to play on 360 he bought another one. May be he doesn't like other platforms.

This is probably why none of the console vendors will ever allow people to sell back digital games they have purchased (even at a fraction of the initial cost): large libraries of digital games and DLC serve to tie people to a particular service long term.

It becomes a matter of "Sick of <console manufacturer>'s <lack of games/bad customer service/terrible hardware> ? Feel free to leave, but youre going to lose a few hundred dollars of digital content"

At least discs can be sold to recoup some of the costs.

Well I just got the email a few minutes ago.

Greetings,

We have identified a software issue that may have impacted your Xbox 360 console and its ability to access Xbox LIVE. If you have received a console suspended message from August 29, 2011 to September 9, 2011, you may have been impacted by this issue. Please attempt to reconnect your console to Xbox LIVE and you should no longer receive the message.

We apologize for the inconvenience this has probably caused you, and we are applying a three month Xbox LIVE Gold credit automatically to your account over the next few business days. In addition, 1600 Microsoft Points will also be deposited into your Xbox LIVE Gold account. You need take no action as these items will be applied automatically.

The Xbox LIVE Enforcement team works to help make Xbox LIVE a safe and enjoyable experience for our customers. We very much regret this issue occurred and we hope to see you again on the service.

I didn't know my system was banned or suspended since I was too busy being locked out of my account from Aug-29th till Sept 20th while they investigated it being hacked.

But my console has never been modded or anything. But in the 2 emails they sent me about the 'investigation' they said have a complimentary 30 day code and in both emails the area was blank where the code would have been so wasn't really very complimentary.

Ah, so that's what happened.

I've been letting my brother use my Xbox console this past year and he told me that the console (but not his XBL account) had gotten banned a couple weeks ago. Despite his claims of innocence I didn't believe him since MS doesn't do these console bans lightly. I was thiiis close to making a thread about it, asking if anyone else has been banned unfairly recently.

So, I guess he really was innocent after all. Thanks MS, for making me look like an asshole :p
