NateTheHate: State of Play coming in February

They just had a great single player game which won GOTY and a great multiplayer game which won GOTY. People would bitch regardless of what Sony do.
GOTY is meaningless. GTA has been the bestselling PS game across generations (PS2, PS3, PS4) and it's never been GOTY.
TLOU2 is GOTY while its predecessor, the far better game, TLOU is not.
On top of that the winning games have to don the hideous GOTY markings that make consumers seek out the better looking unmarked boxes.

Episode 2 Barbara GIF by ABC Network

DS2, Ghost of Yotei and Lost Soul Aside will 100% be there, plus also hoping for new smaller games announced and released shortly after, just like Astro Bot and Lego Horizon.

Sony is in big, big trouble. They are doing what Microsoft did the past few years, but without all the acquisitions.

They had to pivot to PC but in the end bad management decisions will kill them like it killed Ubisoft.

They already learned the lesson and cancelled allot of GAAS and love service games and shifting back to SP games exclusives. The damage is still not that big and there is still allot of time in ps5 life cycle. i also hope for Sony to stop porting there exclusives to other platforms.

When Steam launches a Steam OS machine for the living room, both Microsoft and Sony will realize that they both destroyed themselves by looking at eachother. Nintendo in the meantime will be the steady factor it always was, but Steam and Nintendo is the future.

Sony and Microsoft have to change in order to succeed. If Steam goes into the living room, they have a huge, huge problem. Especially when games on Steam are so much cheaper and gamers have the biggest library ever.

The stability, consistency, strength and success of Nintendo is first they did not bite the bait of GAAS & live service and second did not bite the bait of porting there exclusives to other platforms whatever the sales number is.

We'll get a release date of Death Stranding 2, as well as an announcement for a dedicated SOP for DS2 - we're long overdue for a full gameplay reveal.
Would be cool, but the last time Sony did that for a first-party game was the February 2022 GT7 State of Play. We'll probably just get another 10 minute footage.

Not in the same event. First of all they need to announce the Indiana Jones release date, but I expect a lot of PS5 games announced from MS this year. They have been porting stuff for the past two years.
Expect to be disappointed, most Xbox fans have! Also, shouldn't this show be named State of Why Bother by now?

Yes, but I said for a first-party game. Though DS2 is probably the one I would rule out the less, so we'll see.

DS2 isn't exactly first party, it's in the same boat as Rebirth I guess - locked exclusivity for a certain time period and then an eventual PC release.

They'll do to DS2 what they did with Rebirth especially if they've money hatted some of it.

DS2 is first-party in the eyes of SIE, period. I don't think I want to discuss that again.
But now that I remembered, SIE did have marketing rights for Rebirth, so it's all the same, anyway.

Correct me if im wrong, from what I remember, Stellar Blade and Rise of Ronin, had a trailer February last year. I hope Stellar blade has dlc expansion not just pc port news.

Yes, both were there.
Shift Up actually teased/confirmed DLC expansion for its first anniversary a while back, so it could very well be there. PC port can also happen at one of these SOPs (I'm fully expecting it to be published by PlayStation PC just like Lost Soul Aside), but I'm leaning more towards a blog post for that one.

It may have been the case a year ago but not anymore, Kojima announced that the Death Stranding IP is now in full control of Kojima Productions and it was accompanied by an immediate Xbox port.

it'll be curious to say the least how Sony decide to market it.

For something to be considered first-party it's not a matter of IP ownership, but rather of individual game basis.
Kojipro owned the IP at least since 2022 (as was reflected in the sudden activity regarding DS1's copyright in that year, and then DS2), yet that never stopped DS2 of being a first-party production; keep in mind that the Xbox port of DS1 literally has the 'Sony Interactive Entertainment presents' intro at the beginning, which means that it's a Sony Interactive Entertainment game, therefore it's a first-party title on both PlayStation 4 and PlayStation 5.

Steam going into the living room doesn't change anything. The people that play on Steam can already do so in their living room if they desire, and probably don't really care. The living room audience is primarily on Playstation, with a very price effective cost of entry, and their audience is locked into a digital ecosystem. Steam games are not much cheaper, deals are basically at parity generally speaking because they are set by third parties, not by Valve or Sony. If you want the cheapest way to play, it's always going to be on consoles because it has physical media where you can rent/sell/buy used. That's not going to change.

Yes, obviously it's all subjective. But it's a subjective feeling that many people share. That's why you're seeing so much of it in this thread.

I agree with you on the limp, reddit-tier jokes, but that's the internet for you. Everything gets run into the ground.

That's because you live in a green bubble. I've known you for decades and you've always not liked Sony. That's cool. We all have our preferences, but the numbers don't lie. These games sell well and the console murdered the competition this gen. A whiny, complaining subset of fans (many of which never liked Sony) doesn't change that.

Firstly GTA has won game of the year. Along with TLOU 1 winning awards too. Secondly suggesting how great a game is is meaningless while not doing the same about who developed it is what is truly meaningless.

Nah, I gave my remaining Xbro energy to adamsapple adamsapple to help him in his last stand. It's over for Xbox. I accepted that years ago which is why I transitioned to PC fulltime.

While I haven't been a 'fan' of Sony since the PS1 and PS2 generations, it's pretty easy to see they're slipping and stumbling as of late. Too much focus on live service, same tired formula of games for the most part, becoming less of a Japanese company, tasting the forbidden woke nectar. This is all compounded by increasing dev times and playing it way too safe in general. Leaning on temp 3rd party exclusives will only do so much to draw people into their ecosystem.

I'm just speaking truths here. Whether you agree with it or not doesn't matter. Plenty of people on this forum have expressed the same thing. Sony could win me back as a consumer now that Xbox shit the bed, but that's on them to do it. If they start speaking to me again I'll be right next to you saying retarded fanboy shit.

Is there some deep backtory of love and betrayal that we're not privy to, Kacho Kacho ?

Honestly, who gives a fuck? Even if this was a showcase, all they'd do is cart out Ghost of The PS4 and Snooze Stranding 2, shill a bunch of mediocre third parties and indie games no one cares about.

I don’t disagree with the ridiculously absurd wasted investment in so many live service projects. They’d be in a better spot without it.

However, even with all those disasters they’ve had far better first party offerings than then first four years of any other console they’ve made. Again, the numbers and reception don’t lie, even if those games don’t hit for you.
