I really have very little excitement for anything from either side until Horizon 2 myself.

But that's a pretty normal console launch.. and I have a PS4 backlog I plan on playing in BC with that sweet sweet SSD so I'll be good lol

Thinking I'll pause on Days Gone and wait for BC for instance.. some of the loading is atrocious in that game.
The good news is everything Sony announced will likely be out by end of 2022. Plus more games yet to be shown. Compare that to the PS4 1st party games from 2013 to 2015, and it’s already looking much better. Although, it’s funny how some of the games match up or fit the same roles as early next gen exclusives. The similarities are noticeable:

PS4 2013-2015 - PS5 2020-2022

Big AAA launch game - Killzone Shadow Fall / Spider-Man Miles Morales
Next year AAA game - Infamous Second Son / Horizon Forbidden West
Souls game - Bloodborne / Demon’s Souls (both FromSoft)

Racing game - DriveClub / Gran Turismo 7
Cartoon fun action platformer - Knack / Ratchet & Clank Rift Apart
Dark story, 3rd person shooter, new IP - The Order 1886 / Returnal

Co-op family platformer - LittleBigPlanet 3 / Sackboy Big Adventure (Both by Sumo)
Second party new IPs - Resogun, Until Dawn / Destruction Allstars, ?
Free tech demo playroom game - The Playroom / Astro’s Playroom

Man... Microsoft just can't win, horrible first (and way overhyped) showing that fell flat on its face, followed by that Halo Infinite gameplay (only good thing it did was create Craig the brute meme). Now we learn that Halo Infinite has been delayed and Fable is still pretty early in development, what is going to be their big game at launch now that Halo is gone?... we haven't even seen actual gameplay running on XBXS of anything (Halo was running on PC).

Because you know i'm being coherant and talking sense. You are so used to blowing each other in this thread, and cant cope when something intelligent is said as a counter to the cultness.
And just a reminder to you all, as the numerous times the mods have said it seems to make no difference, this is the Next Gen Speculation thread, NOT the unofficial Sony thread. Remember that please, or take the bullshit to the Sony thread.
Thank you for proving my point so impressive like, same with many of you. Keep upping my reputation score with the smilies.
Fact is you have had it your own way for too long in this thread, and someone comes in and give you differing virewpoints, and you all look at each other with a 'urgh what do we do now?' face.
And the thing is, you know i'm right about this thread due to the amount of times its been locked and mods have issued warnings.
Anyway goodnight, and enjoy.

I'm not saying "Sony Too" though? lol

Just legit asking the question as I was trying to think of what I'll be playing this winter. Not every comment is some console war bullshit jesus.

Search my comments I've been suggesting XBox could be on the way out for months around here.

Fair enough but it came off as a deflect in light of today's news.

So, I'm remembering @OsirisBlack and his statement about xbox killing it in the games department. I'm sorry osiris you lost it.

It turned out OsirisWacko was a Full Of Shit insider. He was fooling everybody on purpose. He even admitted to it in his final post saying something like “you shouldn’t listen to anything I say either.” Who has the time to lie to people for years on end? Must have a boring life.

There was that other fake inside posting nonsense along with him too.

Just thought of something to myself. Since all this talk of Game Pass has 4 generations of BC stuff and BC is value.
Any ex 360 folks who went PS4 going to go back to Xbox?
Anyone on PS4 willing to give up their current PS4 library to go back to the Xbox ecosystem, bearing in mind that the PS5 is BC with PS4 games?

What about your Plus+ subscription?
I have about another 2 years left on that due to stackin so I doubt I'll be leaving anytime soon.

I don't know about you. But that failure of a show entertained me pretty well. I will remember it and cherish that event for the next few years
nah, i took no joy from it. i was devastated because i really wanted MS to do well so i could have more games to play. as much as i love sony games, i am tired of waiting for 2-3 games a year. i wanted more high quality AAA titles and figured MS would bring the goods.

i did enjoy the fallout and loved how everyone disappeared from this chat for a good two weeks. so glad MS fanboys got their comeuppance after years of trolling and spreading shit about the ps5.

So, this list needs to be updated with 2020 quote. Prefer this one :

“I honestly think we’re in the best launch lineup position that we’ve ever been on Xbox,” Spencer said.

It's what I've been saying, Phil is nothing but promises of a better tomorrow... has been leading XB fans with a dangling carrot for years and years now... and they're still chasing after it... I just don't get it... I would've bailed out a long time ago.

It is with a heavy heart that there has been a delay to when pricing for these consoles will be announced. They just couldn’t be revealed in their current state. Our teams are hard at work deciding whether the last number should be an 8 or a 9. It has to be right. We should have information #Soon.

Please know that once pricing is revealed, it will be in a far better state which is better for the entire community.

Backwards compatibility doesn’t matter or sell hardware. PS4 and Switch have almost none (PS Now / Nintendo Online) and sell very well anyway. Xbox has lots of BC and sells far less units. People don’t really care. New games, good games, sell consoles. Price and games, that’s all that matters. I’m not leaving PS because I’m excited for the new games. Otherwise, I’d just keep my PS4 Pro, works fine to play PS4 games.

With everything Xbox being pushed further out(according to Shinobi, etc.) I wonder if Sony will still go forward towards the end of August.

I'd be a little upset if they continued to hold back and let Microsoft go again, thus not saying anything until mid September.

Microsoft can ill afford any other title to slip, especially if Medium or something else falls to 2021 also.

Lucky for Microsoft, they have nothing to do with The Medium, so it should be fine. I thought it was being published by MGS, but it’s just a 3rd party timed exclusive.

Yeah this is just me trying to work out what would be the point of going back to the Xbox ecosystem that so many fanboys assume people would return to...

Tbh they could just delay launch to 2023 when moat their games would show up. I cant see any reason to choose platform with nothing extra to play.
MS faced an impossible choice: delay Halo and have a lacking launch, delay XSX and practically leave all market share for Sony for at least one year or launch with the game anyway and risk crippling their main franchise(we don't even know whether this was an option, considering the game wasn't shown running on XSX). I think they chose correctly the lesser evil.

I feel really bad for xbox fans , and I was kinda looking forward to play the free multiplayer of Halo on PC, specially if they included crossplay and controller lobbies (I've been playing on PC for like 10 years now, but I still prefer to play with a controller whenever possible) I'll just have to wait and see what will be available at launch for PS5 to see if I get it on day one, because as much as I love Spider-man I won't buy a console just for one game, but a Series X just doesn't interest me anymore, unless it's really cheap so I buy it as an upgrade to replace my broken xbox one x and don't lose my library of ONE and 360 games I already own.

I really like that Sony is shipping Astrobot on every PS5. I know it’s a game developed around the DualSense but it’s a full fledged plataformer nonetheless. It’s really cool when you stop to think that just by buying this next-gen system you automatically get a next-gen experience (controller focused) for free.

is it a full fledged game? Seems like an extesion of sorts of The Playroom (and Playroom VR) on PS4, which while cool and family friends was just a small collection of mini games used to demonstrate the Dualsjock 4 and PS Camera.

Are we sure thats a fully-featured platformer? I thought it was a tech demo like The Playroom.

Yeah, no. The X360 was weaker than the PS3 and yet 3rd party multiplats looked better on the X360.

So ... yup, debatable.

Was it though? That seems like exactly the kind of magical thinking I've seen a bit of on these boards from Sony fans. The multi-plat games looked better head-to-head on the 360 so I think it's fair to say that the 360 was more powerful in practical terms.

When we see the head-to-heads on the next-gen machines we'll know for sure which is more powerful. My money is on the machine with the highest specs, but we'll see.

They just need one game if it's good enough, look at the Switch launch, BOTW isn't even console exclusive to the Switch! Even as a big fan of Killzone Shadow Fall I can admit which way the wind was blowing on that title as well as Knack. When it comes to sales Miles Morales could easily blow any launch title for PS4/XB1 out of the water.

The more I think about it, the more I honestly think Xbox is totally fucked this gen, moreso than EVER before....And Phil Spencer is 100% to blame. Guy needs to go.

Even the Xbox One had Ryse, Killer Instinct, Titanfall, Rise of the Tomb Raider, Sunset Overdrive, etc....all lined up EARLY in the Xbox One's lifecycle. Halo Infinite was supposed to be the one redeeming factor in next gen, even if it was a cross-gen game. It was supposed to be Microsoft's ace card, their Breath of the Wild that ushers in a ton of excitement for the platform. I got that feeling when watching the 2018 trailer.

What the fuck happened? Phil had the entire Xbox One gen to prepare for next-gen. And then suddenly "oh, gens don't matter". What the fuck is his problem? It's clear that he doesn't GET GAMING. He doesn't understand the ART of making games. And it's clear that he's a guy that originally started his career making generic Microsoft office based products. The problem with Phil is he's a software engineer turned bean counter. Everything about Xbox is centered around the ideas of user engagement, monthly active users, services subscriptions, etc. What he fails to understand, which is SHOCKING given how he was head of game studios for the longest time, is that gaming is built ON GAMES. Brilliant thought, right?

And what about these GAMES? Are they static? Do they never change? No, Generations MAKE THEM BETTER. They get developers EXCITED at the new possibilities. Motivated to make something great where they don't have as many restrictions as they had before. They get GAMERS INTERESTED again when things get stale. Once next gen hits, within 1 year from now a HUGE portion of the very hardcore gamers will have already moved over.

Microsoft is going to get left in the dust by their strategy so far and it's completely unacceptable as a consumer. Sony is going to have an insanely compelling lineup right out of the gate the first year and Xbox is lucky to hopefully salvage Halo from being a total disaster. But it'll still be LAST GEN! It's going to look like SHIT compared to Horizon 2 and will be a joke if it releases alongside it. You can only pull a Breath of the Wild moment if you actually have insane levels of talent behind something. 343 is just a failed studio, plain and simple. Their creative director probably left because Microsoft mandated that Halo Infinite be a platform game that keeps evolving. Nobody wants that. Phil does though, gotta get them MAUs!

So here we are, months away from a 12TF console, that won't have anything on it that looks any better than the Xbox One X for probably a few years. There's ZERO reason to buy an Xbox Series X. Sony is going to CLOBBER them. It's going to be shocking how badly Microsoft is going to do next-gen.

I don’t want to agree. I really don’t. The hardware is there. I really thought, OK, Halo Infinite (based on the 2018 trailer), A Forza Title, and maybe a Fable title within the launch window and Flight Simulator 2020... this thing will be a kick ass thing I might need to own around l, if not at, launch.

Now it’s something I’ll get later when the new and exclusive games are there.

They won't run so much better on XsX that anyone will care. Only hardcores watch DigitalFoundry. Casuals just want good games to play and when they find out that PSAdv is giving them exclusive content their mind will be made up. I expect XsX to have better resolution or better effects but it won't be so much better that it will matter to me, or you

Absolutely. I've said from the start, the VISIBLE advantage to people may well actually be on the PS5's side due to that monster SSD and I/O. If the PS5 is like 'instant on' booting, if games load in a literal blink, etc., especially if XSX takes (a still fast) several seconds, what will be perceived as the faster machine? Yep, PS5. I've also been screaming about this "power advantage." The PS4 was about 40% more powerful than the XB1. It took Digital Foundry and those 300x zooms to tell this. NO ONE I KNOW who got an XB1 felt like they had the lower power machine. They were all fine with it. Most normal people never even KNEW there was a power difference. They just played Madden with their friends or Halo. So people think that THIS generation, even if the GPU 15-18% or whatever it is advantage is going to show MORE of a difference? NO WAY. It will be far less and now Digital Foundry will need 800x or 1000x zooms to show the difference.

Two caveats to this. IF the XSX has some significant advantage in raytracing due to the higher number of CU's..maybe there will be a visible difference. It's also possible that the monster I/O of the PS5 actual puts it on equal or even superior footing. POSSIBLE. But again, even if that happens...visible difference? Very unlikely. Bottom line- everything we've seen to date shows no visible difference and yes I'm taking the cut scenes or CGI shown by Microsoft to be representative of what the XSX can do because...we don't have any other choice. To be fair though, I think even the games shown by Sony that are just cut scene are representative of what THOSE game will look like. If that's the case...these boxes will seem and feel equal. The difference once again will be exclusives and the games. Right now, even if MS has some real visible advantage that can be shown by the XSX I don't think it will matter since we're looking at another 2 years or more till those start to come out. That's 2 years or more that Sony will have a HUGE advantage in available first party exclusives or timed exclusives to drive sales. Without software ready to go, MS is really pinning it's fortune on whatever they will do with GamePass and Cloud. Those aren't minor selling points, but they are HEAVILY dependent on internet infrastructure, performance and availability. Which is an issue world wide and certainly in America where MS tends to do best.

We will see.....

It looks like a shorter version of Astro Bot Rescue Mission, designed to show off the DualSense. It’s probably like 2 hours long, but they showed gameplay and it looks like a legit 3D platformer.

Far better than the Playroom, which required the PS4 camera (which was supposed to be a pack in). This one’s at least playable right away for every PS5 user.

That happens to every company to ever take missteps like these. It was the same with PS3, then Xbox One, and now with XSX.

Oh yes, the crow being served at and around the PS3 launch and for at least the first year was plentiful and well deserved. It's painful for fans with these companies make mistakes but it is what it is. Hopefully everyone can make their comments and we can get to further speculation. I'm more interested than EVER to get real, solid information on XSX and PS5. The teardown, what the UI's look like and how they actually function and, of course, PRICING AND FREAKING PRE-ORDERS! :)

Yeah, but I’ll play it to know what that haptic feedback has to offer.
