Nintendo really likes Metacritic

what? whats wrong with pointing out how highly rated most nintendo software is?
Well in a sense a shareholder primarily cares about the money the game brings in and after that its about quality. The fact remains that Nintendo really isn't bringing in that much money - sure they are back in black but a long way from the wii levels they had.

Man, I'm really mad about a company saying how highly rated their games are. That's, like, saying that they're good at making games, which is clearly not the case, right?

As much as they have used it recently, Iwata seems to have a more leveled head about it.

When a brand-new title is released, there are often misconceptions at the outset, so I would not take the Metacritic.com Metascores and User Scores as the absolute tell-all index, but I do want us to do our best to release such highly evaluated titles in succession.

Doesn't read OPs, especially not his own
nostalgic reviewers citing "Nintendo Magic" as reasons for high scores really helps. They could make the same game 20 times and the reviewers would say "isn't more of the same exactly why we loved these as a kid? 9/10" while with other games they will say "not enough change 7/10"

It's ridiculous and I can't believe (AS AN OWNER OF WIIU AND PS4) that they would seriously rate Mario Kart 8 and Smash so high. A man likes them and plays regularly but Smash especially should be lambasted for lack of innovation the way Infamous was and the Order will
Hmmmm

I don't understand why this is depressing. They've been doing this for a little while now. I was surprised at first, but it does make sense. It's an aggregate of critic and user reviews that shows more empirically how high-quality Nintendo's games are. I can see why this would be information they'd want to convey to their investors.

Metacritic becoming too influential will lead to publishers refusing to green light anything that's remotely polarising. In other art forms it's considered ok for some people to like a thing, while others dislike it. The need for high Metacritic scores encourage dumbed down content suitable for all, rather than specialist content. It makes for dull games, essentially. Hopefully at least Nintendo's approach to games renders them somewhat immune, but the effects can be seen elsewhere.
