Nintendo Switch Online price increase. Is it justified?

Why should we believe any of this? Why is there not a single new game that people don't already know of announced to be at launch?

Yeah, and the account in question seems to be a complete nobody. Could very well be the OP for all we know, lol. We've seen so many "leaks" like this in the past that are just a repackaging of existing rumors and easy guesses.

Are we sure this is saying $20 > $70 or $50 > $70?

Because it could mean the Online + Expansion Pass is going up $20.

Even though I think this rumor is BS, I do think that a $10 or $20 increase to the Expansion Pass is likely, since they'll probably be adding GameCube, Wii, and/or DS games eventually.

What about many other 3rd party publishers? Are they stupid? It's the switch, all of them must consider porting their games to the switch 2.

I don't care.

Litteraly never subscribed to any subscription from all of them and I'm fine. I consider them almost as scam since you can play most of the same games on PC with free online.

And about their "free" games, they aren't: you own NOTHING at the end.

I want this stupid online subscription model dead.

Online was free with PS3, thank you Microsoft for having made legitimate paid online with your stupid "Xbox Live" subscription 🖕🖕🖕

Part of me wonders if they aren’t going to lock BC behind the paywall. It would make sense with the whole “not all titles will be BC” statement.

Ever since it was leaked that games would need individual patches Xbox style I have thought Nintendo would monetize it.

I'm just wondering why devs (especially 3rd party ones) don't make their MP games F2P from the get-go (that way online MP is free everywhere).

I can understand why Nintendo would probably never make Mario Kart/Splatoon F2P, but 3rd party devs have no excuse.

Buy2play feels a bit antiquated for MP games, especially if you want to maximize your player pool/matchmaking quality.

This sounds almost bad enough to be true. At least Metroid Prime 4 is there. Glimmer of hope.

So, if I were trying to make sense of this "leak"...

He gives no reason as to why NSO price goes up, but lists both Breath of the Wild and Mario Odyssey as getting remastered treatment. But then lists BotW as a launch title only.

Knowing Nintendo and their greedy ass ways... They could be raising the price and introducing a "Switch Remastered" selection tier to the NSO. I could see them locking up these remaster patches behind the NSO paywall like they did with certain DLC's (Mario Kart, Animal Crossing, Splatoon).

Hopefully they'd give you a choice to upgrade separately, like with the DLC's maybe they'd charge $20 if you own the game already.

But hey Mario Kart 9 and Prime 4. Too bad there is no original 3rd party games, just ports. If this is even true.

While I think US$20 a year is very much great for the content, the Expansion at US$50 doesn't see fair

Nintendo should do "it's US$40 a year and that's it"

So they are showing Mario Odyssey and Breath of the Wild at 2k…so does that mean that this thing will upscale original Switch games? Why make a big deal about BotW remaster and show off the original getting upscaled in the same Direct?

Charging for online multiplayer in 2025 is insane. Raising the price of online multiplayer is maddening. Consoles are begging you to quit them.
The thing is, no console manufacturer dares to make the online free for Buy2Play games.

Either it's a cartel, or perhaps they want all MP games to become F2P?

Am I the only one to notice it said Nintendo switch online with expansion pass is 70, that's a 20 dollar increase, not 50. It doesn't say what the regular Nintendo switch online is.

It was normalized before free to play. Now there's just 0 incentive for any of them to stop raking in free money every year. The actual recurring cost of servers/storage/bandwidth is negligible. None of the console makers are advancing their features faster than Valve, whose service is free. This is all especially embarrassing from Nintendo who are 2 generations behind the competition.

I’m not spending another ~400 hours again on BOTW. It’s over. It’s finished. I won. And the WiiU is stored. I don’t want to know anything about it.

I don't think this is real. Even if it is, NSO doesn't offer enough for Nintendo to ask $70. The $20 tier I pay for to play MK8 and NES games online is worth what they charge but I wouldn't pay $70 just to do that.

Sure, I’ll pay them whatever they charge. You get 5 accounts for one price. No restrictions on playing multiplayer games at the same time and you can share all the digital game benefits (older systems, expansions passes, etc.)

Its specially the +expansion version which is already $60

If the standard model gets a price jump it would most likely be either $25 or $30

Which still sucks, but kinda misleading for people to think its going from $20 to $70
Even $1 is expensive, subscription in the long run only make you poorer and in the end you own nothing.

Remastering Breath of the Wild for launch is strange. The game has now spanned 3 consoles in a row. Nintendo is not helping themselves against the claims that the system seems a little boring. Would have been more justified mid-life cycle.

BotW is now an 8 years old game

People really have forgotten the last decade entirely due to the Corvid huh?

Just weird to trot it out at system launch. Didn't the game sell over 30 million copies on the first Switch and I don't know how many on the Wii-U? I understand porting it immediately from the Wii-U because that system did not sell well. I guess it's no more dumb than Sony remastering Horizon so quickly.

I guess I will eat my hat when it sells another 20 mill on the Switch 2.

Yeah, especially so if they’re also straight up enhancing the Switch 1 game.

There has to be some kind of added content that’s at least somewhat substantial, maybe something in the vein of the Bowsers Fury expansion, that’d incentivize people to buy it again. Very hard sell otherwise, and frankly it sounds like a hard sell even if they do add content to it imo.

I am sorry but nintendo just has nothing to offer to justify a 70 dollar online fee.
I have a feeling this will be a big money pit.

Cross gen titles at release, old ps4 games as third party release and all that at full price for not even the best version of those third party games.

Honestly from whats shown this console should be max $400
