Now that we have the PS5 Pro in hand, what's your thoughts?

Lol, untitled goose game, somehow, does not work on PS5 Pro. Can anyone confirm please?

Turn off maybe?

Have it horizontal. Really loving it so far and only played FF7R so far.

This is only a .small slice of what we're going to see and get. Overall I'm just very pleased with it and excited what the future will bring until the PS6 comes around.

Also interested in watching PSSR evolve. AMD solution just wasn't it so Sony made their own.

Mine is pretty quiet, it's difficult to hear from where I'm sitting even with the volume muted. More quiet than my launch PS5 was.
I love that the led light strips on the console are less prominent and can be dimmed.
The controller battery life is so bad. It might as well be wired.
Just playing Spider-Man so far. Looks good, feels good.

So, initial thoughts after about 2 hours:

-Build quality is cheap af. Does not feel like a premium product at all. I much prefer the OG fat ps5's build quality, even if it's massive and heavy.
-The dualsense that came with my unit is broken. The dpad and the left triggers don't work. Good job on the QC, Sony. Not.
-Setup was easy. Actually, I learned during transferring my m.2 that the end of it was supposed to be screwed in to the slot. Oops, had it in the OG PS5 for like 3 years without being screwed in.
-Attachable disc drive had no issues pairing.

Only got to play the new Astro bot speedrun level and some Zenless Zone Zero so I haven't really put the console through its paces yet but I did notice less framedrops in ZZZ. So that's good.

Stating the obvious, but just make sure its got loads of space to vent. I know my XSX used to get loud one time when I wasn't giving it enough space to expel the hot air away and so was likely sucking a little of it back in. Moved it and it was silent. I'll keep my fingers crossed for you.

Btw that HZD remastered in Pro performance mode is jaw dropping for me. I feel like next gen has finally arrived! Stunning.
It's oriented left to right on a shelf behind the tv which is wall mounted and well away from the shelf, switch dock is about 6 inches to the right and extension block is about a foot to the left so it should have plenty plenty of breathing space.

Any chance you can do a recording of yours, maybe I'm being over sensitive.

It's whisper quiet at the dashboard with nothing else going on. About as loud as my ps5 was when running a game at 60 fps, and about twice as loud running a game at 120.

It's only air that I can here. I have fitted a fancy elecgear ssd heat sync but cannot see that making that much difference.

I guess it's possible though as it's not pro specific and not exactly a perfect fit.

It’s fine, stuff runs better, and it’s shiny. Not sure what we should be expecting. It’s still a ps5, there’s no games made to specifically take advantage of it. I’m playing the Alan wake expansions on it, my memory is shit, but it seems smoother and now has reflections. It’s simply now if you play on console, the best experience will be on the pro, marginal or not.

It’s a luxury item. If you have disposable income and gaming is a hobby, buy it, if you don’t, don’t. 🤷‍♂️ people happily buy new £1200 iPhones every year or so that really are barely different to prior one.

But yeah if it’s a financial stretch don’t bother, and if ur American and already stretched it’s much much smarter to save for when the tariffs come in at the start of next year.

Unfortunately I dont have any audio recording kit. The loudest I managed to get mine was with Uncharted 4 unlocked VRR 120hz. But even then I had to go less than a 1m and I'd say more like 0.5m or less away to hear it. Obviously during my testing I had all audio muted and I couldn't hear it all sat 1.9m away.

Pure conjecture on my part. But I read numerous reports that both the OG and slim PS5 has used multiple different fan manufacturers (3 to 4 per iteration iirc). Maybe the Pro is also using different fans or there is variance in them.

Reading a lot of these comments about coil whine and fan lottery has led me to a conclusion that Sony has gotten too comfortable/greedy in their own skin now that they are clearly dominating Microsoft in these silly console wars. The only losers are us, the consumers. They are taking us for granted at this point and the only way to change this would be if we vote with our wallets. As for my part, I am not buying another Sony console until they tighten up their QC when it comes to coil whine and fan lottery.

I picked up a 2nd machine (after scheduling a return with Amazon for the first). Sound is still there, but less noticeable. I think I'll consider keeping this, but it's definitely soured my entire perception of the console. When you consider how premium the Series X feels, from how quiet it is, to even the packaging, you can't help but feel short changed by Sony. I completely understand Digital Foundry's criticism now.

You absolutely see Microsoft learning from those experiences with how they've packaged the Xbox. I remember their announcement video actually speaking about one of their DESIGN goals was to keep this machine silent.

That's not a good idea. They are made to route airflow from the fan. The shape of the original and Pro are different.

Its made for the slim model, it's essentially the same I just had to cut a metal tab from the part the sits on the fan.

I will take it off in a bit as it's over kill anyway, just the part that replaces the ssd cover is enough on its own

Whats the difference compared to Pro shape?

The heat bridge as they call it doesn't quite go over the gap between ssd and fan where is does on the slim, so the little tab that's supposed to be screwed in under the additional heat sync doesn't reach.

The additional heat sync screws in perfectly

Oh I see. I have it here but haven't bothered with it. If it doesn't work I won't even open it and I'll buy the regular version with just the regular heatsink. Thanks

You already have it lol

The normal one if the one that just replaces the ssd cover.

Obviously you could send it back and get the other one and get a few quid back though.

In the second picture you can see the tab that I had to cut off (Pretty poorly as it was already fitted and I couldn't be bothered to take it all again to trim it down.)

I have the Foxconn fan which I presume is the good one based on the video someone shared in one of the threads here.

I've removed the extra heat sync now, so will see if it's made an improvement. (I doubt it will though)

Heaven forbid you do t be impressed by your pS5 pro. You must surely be trollin! 😂😂😂

I remember a few years ago I bought this drum machine called maschine MK3. When I vented how disappointed I was in it, all the new owners tried to harpoon me. I guess what I’m saying is it’s too early for you to be honest. People just spent 1000 bucks on this thing and they need to feel good about it. Even if it comes up short. Just don’t mention it.

Its ok. Almost 3x more space for games, 30% performance boost with not updated games its not bad. We can have much bigger improvements in updated (re4 higher res +50% fps boost, Ff7r briliant pssr, solid improvements in psvr2 games like no man sky). Biggest dissapointment is that in games with lower internal res like alan wake 2 and silent hill 2 pssr break and that was scenario that I thought improvements will be biggest.

Hype Train conductor. Works harder than it steams.
DF was talking up Horizon Remastered as the best looking title and most impressive. I bought it based on this since it was a $10 upgrade.

What a mistake. This game looks dated and within the first minute, I experience shadow glitches in the cutscenes. It looks like a PS4 game on a PC emulator where it forces higher resolutions. I don't even like this series so this was a giant waste. Nothing is super impressive about any of it. Horizon 2 looks incredible on the Pro though.
But Horizon Remastered is basically Horizon Zero Dawn with Forbidden West graphics so the bolded comments make no sense.
Forbidden West is definitely the overall better looking game but they do look close now.
But both are PS4 games either way, Forbidden West was released on PS4 so Horizon Zero Dawn Remastered is possible on PS4 too, same with The Last of Us Pt1, it's the same game running on a PS4 engine.

I see. So the bridge that creates airflow is not compatible so the fan attached piece is basically useless.
I might just wait for a Pro compatible version with the extra piece. I have the original model and it worked well using the fan to increase airflow. Thanks for sharing. Edit. Nevermind. I don't even see the link anymore on Amazon

As I can't buy yet the next game I wanted to play on the pro cause it's not discounted at the moment and I'll wait for black Friday deals to get it (TLOU part 2 - €49), I'm asking if FFVIi remake intergrade is real good and it you recommend it ? It's currently €18 so I may buy it and play it until black Friday. I only want to play the best games (my time available is not much) , so I must be demanding on the quality. Good choice or pass ?

Let me put it this way: I'm no JRPG fan and never played a FF game to completion but, I had a good time with FF7Re intergrade last year on my PS5 - for 18 Eurodollars I'd say that it's a steal 😉

Edit : Resident Evil 4 Remake is also on sale - 30 Eurodollars for the whole shebang (main game+Ada DLC)

It still fits not perfect though, but yeah if you've not put it in maybe send it back.

Had the sabrant heatsink on the og ps5, slightly different shape, so ime sure this elecgear one with the cover replacement only installed will be more than good enough.

Ok. Followed your advice. Bought it 😀.
For RE4 remake, it tried the demo, it was quite good. May buy it after. But first, completion of FfVIiRe intergrade 😁.

Has anyone noticed their their new Dual Sense controller feels differently?

I swear that the haptic feedback on the triggers feels better (sharper, for lack of a better word) than my launch OG Dual Sense?
This may very well be that your old Dualsense is starting to get bad triggers, i swear my one year old Dualsense triggers doesnt feel the same anymore in Astro's Playroom.

Finally tried out a few games.

Diablo 4: doesn’t have a “pro” mode in the options. Quality mode is still 30 FPS. Performance mode is supposedly the one that’s Pro enhanced. It runs great but I don’t notice much difference vs non-pro

Ratchet & Clank: looks stunning and runs perfectly in Performance Pro mode, really great upgrade

DMC V: runs silky smooth in quality mode. Never tried it on the non-Pro so I’m not sure if it’s any different

Pro tip (pun intended) it gets pretty toasty, seems to put out more heat than my OG PS5 and the fans get noticeably loud when it does. I have a little USB->PC fan adapter that I connected to my TV (so it’s only on when the TV is on) and set it up to exhaust air out the back of my entertainment system. It made a dramatic difference.

I like it a lot. I'm mostly a PC gamer but I haven't upgraded my video card in awhile (RTX 2070) so I decided to get the Pro to tide me over a bit. I have a lot of games to catch up on. I'm playing Resident Evil 4 now and I'm really impressed. It feels like a decent PC.

I also really like the interface, the controller and all of the options The audio is outstanding. I have an Atmos setup and to everything just sounds tremendous. Very happy with the purchase so far.

I didn't realize the Pro replaces the front USB-A port with a USB-C port, so now my USB hub doesn't work. My 2 rear slots are occupied by an SSD and the PSVR1, so I need to buy a USB-C hub. Any recommendations? Currently looking at UGREEN Revodok USB C Hub, not sure if there's a better one out there.

Zero interest when it was announced.

Additional zero interest now. Personally, I think it is just a test for what they can get away with charging for future consoles depending on the amount of tech they add to the hardware. Different and bigger deals with PC part companies come to mind.

So I spent more time with it today.

I think it's pretty clear that PSSR isn't as good as DLSS when it comes to image stability, especially with things like wires or thin elements with high contrast. That said, I'd say it's a step above XESS and pretty close to DLSS otherwise.
-FF7 Rebirth is kind of disappointing. The Pro mode with DLSS does resolve a much higher effective resolution, but the image quality is destroyed by subpixel shimmering and fine element instability - it almost seems like the game is using TAA underneath and then upsampling AGAIN, so PSSR is amplifying the motion breakup - when I look closely at the quality/fidelity mode I can see the subpixel shimmering already. So technically it's doing its job, but the game underneath is so poor in technical execution that PSSR can't make up for it. I'm half and half whether the game will be a mess on PC and DLSS will be able to cope with what's there. On the plus side, the performance is smooth as butter. So for people who are triggered by frame drops this will be the definitive way to play the game until the PC release. Also the pop-in is much more noticeable since the entire image is much clearer lol (sigh)
-Horizon Forbidden West was already good but the Pro mode gives a perceptible higher base resolution/higher level of detail. However, the base game was already good enough. I don't think base PS5 owners will have a strong incentive to upgrade for Sony 1st party games because they're already by and large very well executed technically and look and run great on the regular PS5. Also, you need quite a good TV to even care about the differences. On a 4K OLED like mine I can tell fairly easily, but again the game already looked amazing. Side note: I never really thought about it before but I dislike how Guerilla does high intensity hero lighting for all NPC conversations. Especially in indoors environments it feels weird.

To end on a more positive note, there's no fan noise or coil whine in mine.

I'll try some different games out tomorrow.

I paid good money for this Dynex!
I finally finished up Metaphor today, so I was excited to unbox the PS5 Pro and play SIlent Hill 2 now that it's listed as being Pro compatible.

Except the patch isn't out yet, so they're basically just lying about it on the storefront. Not a great first experience!

Hopefully it'll just be a few days, though.

Enjoying it so far. Got me back playing hoghwarts, lords of fallen. I like that its smaller, but it looks awkward with disc drive attachment sideways at least. Also save downloading was pain in the ass. I ahd around 20gb from ps4 and 15gb from ps5 saves and if I tried download all at once, the dl would just stop, so had to manually download bit by bit. Ssd swap was as easy as it could have been. Really cant eait to see more how future titles will utilize this console

Honestly, quite a few games look noticeably better.

Is it worth the £700? No, not so far.

But either way, I hope the upgrades only get better over time. Feels like the PS4 to PS4 Pro was a bigger upgrade.

First thing I noticed was how the colors seem deeper and richer than my OG PS5 did. Not sure if that's just some output variance that can happen between consoles or what, but it's definitely there. Looks really good.
Also, a problem I had with syncing trophies on my OG is now fixed on the Pro, so that's nice. Was having that issue for like 4 months.
I was playing The Quarry last night. On the OG PS5, there was always some kinda nasty graphical glitching on window frames in certain scenes. On the Pro, those glitches are, while still there, very much improved and less annoying.
Other than that though, things seem pretty much like what's being reported everywhere online. Sharper graphical details, smoother framerates, etc.
Basically feels like about the same kinds of improvements we got from PS4 to PS4 Pro.
Was it worth it? I don't know.....I guess so, if you can afford it. Price seems awful high considering it didn't even come with a disk drive. I just know I wouldn't have been able to stand hanging with the "inferior" PS5, when there's a better one out, just like how I was with the PS4 to Pro. I don't really game on PC beyond legacy emulation, I primarily game on console, so the upgrade was "necessary" for me.

Very useful thread. Feels to me like the improvements probably just aren’t worth the purchase, especially as I have a decent PC set up.
